Andre Patel

Andre's a mechanic who's trying Really Hard to fix up a glitchy android who he ends up "adopting".  He's got low self esteem and he's a lil self destructive, with an addictive personality that gets him into trouble. He's been through a lot without much support, but his best friend Evelyn will always be by his side. He's had substance abuse problems in the past.. he gets into fights sometimes. Growing up he always felt like he was in his sister's shadow, never able to be good enough compared to her and he develops an inferiority complex about it. But he's trying to work on things over the course of the story!

The droid, Delilah, belonged to Andre's sister Zahra, and when she started to break down got sent to Andre to fix. (Admittedly to save a few bucks on the labor, according to Zahra's husband Julian, who doesn't get along with Andre at all.) But Andre doesn't normally work on androids and didn't really know what he was doing. He ends up fixing a few things, but overall he makes her problems worse, more glitches and memory problems. It's a stressful time, feeling like he wasted his energy on this for nothing, ruining someone else's very expensive things.. His sister and brother-in-law let him keep the droid after that, because a lot of the errors seemed like too much work to be worth the time and cost to fix. He doesn't particularly want to keep the droid at first though! He doesn't have more time and money to fix this thing, and keeping her around is getting on his short nerves!
Julian suggests that she could just be used as scrap at this point, but hey, even if it's broken and nearly worthless it's still the most expensive thing you own now.. but Andre doesn't have the heart to scrap her, no matter how annoyed he might be she's still an android with a personality and connections and some sort of emotional depth.
Andre gets determined to fix her up over time! He saw the droid as a bit of a burden at first, but he grows to love and care about her! She's his good robot daughter now.

He's dating Kriss, one of my partner's OCs! He's an artist, they live in the same apartment building. They met when Delilah wandered out, had a glitch and shut down. Kriss has to go find out who she belonged to! Andre's frazzled, in part because he can't believe she wandered off while he was in the shower, found the cutest possible guy around, and he answered wearing only a towel, thinking it was his friend and pal Avery at the door. They're embarrassed and a bit awkward, but it's nice when they see each other again and they slowly become friends and then very cute boyfriends.
Andre's not used to feeling so smitten with guys, this is his first serious relationship in a while (and the last one he was in ended horribly..) and he got used to quick hookups. They take things kinda slow at first, play a bit of will they or won't they. Kriss is an incredibly supportive person and Andre considers himself so lucky to have him in his life, almost too good to be true. His insecurities pop up from time to time, he's afraid he'll mess this up again.

*In an AU, instead of a robot daughter, Andre ends up with an actual daughter, Leia. He's a young stressed single father with a "me & baby against the world" attitude when he meets Kriss. Slowly starts to open up and learn that it's okay to Accept Help!!! An even slower slowburn than before. (annd they eventually way in the future get married and adopt a second baby as well, Micah!)*
