ABOUT
An aspiring villain, and the self-proclaimed archrival of the necromancer Alerick, Gael dreams of terrorizing the human world with an army of monsters created by himself, so that he may prove to his fellow demons that one doesn't need to be big and scary to conquer the world.
Despite his great talent in "creation magic" (the magic used for creating monsters and other creatures from scratch), a demon's opinion on what's scary (or maybe just his) differs a lot from a human's, and so, his creatures so far aren't quite working on the "terrorizing" part.
As a means of defense to all the belittlement he’s gotten throughout his life for being small and skinny, he’s always kept himself on a very high regard and has ignored other people’s words, labelling them as mere attempts to discourage him. Although it’s very admirable not to let other people bring you down, his attitude has also led to him being surprisingly conceited and to ignoring not only people’s negative criticism, but also the constructive one. This is, in no small part, the reason why his monsters never seem to really scare anyone, but he’ll learn eventually. Probably.
Though he’s quite stubborn and strongly refuses doing anything he doesn’t feel like doing, he can be won over relatively easily through flattery or sweets... not that he’ll let it show.
TRIVIA
- His full name before deserting his clan was Byalgar Gael’ra, or Gael, member (ra) of the White Raven (Byalgar) clan. Demon names always state the clan and one’s position in it, as that’s believed to be what defines the person the most. Being just a “member” means you have no position inside the clan and fulfill no role... In other words, Gael was unemployed, as no one wanted to give a job to a mage... except for Sairi, but Gael plain refused her. Now that he’s deserted his clan and joined no other, he’s just “Gael”.
- Since it’s believed that magic brought ruin to Reon, as it’s the most direct responsible for the current barren state of the planet, demons have pretty much condemned magic for anything other than domestic use. Magic practitioners aren’t chased or anything, but it’s seen as a practice of bad taste. Gael, however, believes that magic is the key to restoring their empire, and feels no shame at all for using it.
- Gael’s smaller size and lower physical condition is due mostly to him having been born early. In a world of huge people with strong warrior aspirations, his small and weak frame meant he was seen as a failure pretty much since he was born. This scorn is what fuels his desire to conquer the human world all on his own and show everybody how wrong they’ve been about him.
- Gael’s got an older brother who fits the demon ideal almost perfectly. They’ve never had a good relationship, and the long years with no contact between the brothers are probably the most peaceful time they’ve ever had.
- Gael never had a proper master, as magic’s frowned upon by his race, so he had to learn everything on his own. While he’s too proud to admit it or ask for it, receiving lessons from Alerick, even if they’re rare and disguised as casual tutoring, means the world to him. His lack of a master also shows in how he’s a terrible teacher himself when instructing Persephone, but he’s learning quickly.
- All demons have a favourite kind of lizard. Their homeworld was home to a huge variety of reptiles, and there’s an ancient tradition of catching one to offer it to the person you like as a form of courtship. Gael’s favourite type are those with bright blue-green tongues. He doesn’t much care for the colors of the scales, he cares only about how cool those mouths look.
- Demons age a bit more slowly than humans due to the magic in them, and their lifespans are also a bit longer in consequence. Therefore, by demon’s standards, Gael is still in his late teens. Also, while his height and size seem average in human eyes, he’s rather small for a demon.
ARTIST NOTES
- He’s got fangs
- His lips, tongue and inside of her mouth have an orange-ish tone, as does his blood. His blushes, therefore, are also of an orange hue
- His hand and toe nails are a little long and sharp, all naturally navy blue
- His eyes have a dark red outer rim and an orange inner core
PALETTE

Sairi • Childhood friend
When they were young, Gael was very fond of Sairi, as they were both shunned by his peers, so they pretty much only had each other. However, when Sairi was chosen to be the next matriarch, she started to act nicely to those who’d treated them like garbage before (and still treated Gael that way). He couldn’t stand this, and distanced himself from her.
Alerick • Idol, rival, master
Gael grew up hearing of and being inspired by the tales of the Necromancer of the West, and he showed his admiration in a rivalry that swore to surpass him one day. After being unwillingly taken into his home to recover from some near-fatal wounds, Gael’s become an unofficial apprentice of sorts, as the man often teaches him things seemingly in passing.
STORY
If being the little brother to one of the most charismatic and prominent demons in Reon wasn’t enough of a burden, Gael was born smaller and weaker than other children. Both things combined, together with the way people looked at him like he’d already failed at life and his peers made fun of him for his size and lack of strength, have always made him feel like he was being unjustly belittled, and he’s yearned for a way to prove his worth to the rest of his kind. However, his size made it near impossible for him to stand out as a warrior, so it felt like there was nothing he could do... until, when he was five, he heard a tale come from the human world of Gea.
The tale was about the most fearsome man that their world was facing: the Necromancer of the West, a sorcerer who commanded great hordes of undead, and whose stories, which dated back to around two hundred years, were enough to keep a grown man from getting a good night’s sleep. This story gave Gael the key to getting the recognition he desired: if he was no match for the rest as a warrior, then he’d become the most powerful and fearsome mage, with an army of his own, with which he’d achieved what generations of their warriors couldn’t: conquering back the world of Gea. Thus, he began his journey to surpass the one he’d declared his greatest rival and was his greatest inspiration: the Necromancer of thr West.
Since he knew there was no way warriors would follow him, especially if he begun practicing magic, which was pretty much a taboo in his society, he decided he should study an art that would allow him to craft an army of his own, and so, he took the school of creationism. His family took this new enterprise of his as just a fleeting idea that would soon pass, so they didn’t do much to stop him at first, but as the years passed and his resolve didn’t waver, both his brother and his adoptive sister of sorts, Sairi, who was the person Gael was the closest to, began to express their skepticism, each in their own ways. His brother kept telling him to stop wasting his life and let him help him with training, while Sairi just gleefully said he shouldn’t put so much effort into something that wouldn’t get him a job, as she’d gladly take care of him when he was jobless.
For the lack of a positive support, Gael encountered many negative reasons to keep up with chosen path, as his brother gained more fame and status, and Sairi was surprisingly chosen to become the next matriarch and, with her new popularity, started hanging out with the people who often made fun of him. With two out of three support points lost to him (the third one being his mother), Gael had little to tie him to his clan and, when he was around 21 years old, he got completely fed up with it and just deserted the clan to leave for the human world and put his plan in action. Unfortunately for him, things didn’t start well in the new world: turns out, the monsters he’d been designing all those years didn’t cater at all to humans’ fears, and as such he completely failed at becoming the fearsome figure he had dreamed of. He didn’t let this deter him though, and for the next few years, he kept on moving forward in Gea, creating new monsters, trying to figure out what kind of creature would finally make its way into people’s nightmares.
However, since they’d been oppressed by demons for many centuries, there was no way that humans wouldn’t noticed the little demon running around in their cities and making monsters, no matter how hard he tried to hide himself. And so, the news of his presence reached the ears of the Grand Archon, the head of the Council of Magicians, and therefore one of the most powerful and influential figures in Gea, who sent troops to capture him. While his creatures managed to defend him for a time, the enemy was too numerous, and Gael, who’d suffered some serious injuries during the assault, couldn’t possibly fight them all off or find a way to escape. It seemed like it was the end of the journey for him... until the ground split open, and dozens of undead came up from the ground snd began putting up a resistance against the mage’s troops. Just as he saw this unfold, the last of his strength left his body, and he fell unconscious.
When he next woke up, Gael found himself on top of an old, wide, sturdy wooden table that looked like it had seen the most unholy things in the world, in the middle of a dark underground room with rock walls. And right beside the table, there were two people: a tall human man with an unhealthy complexion, and a little human girl who was staring at him with eyes wide in surprise. These people were Alerick Reighstad, who bore the title of Necromancer of the West, and his grandniece Persephone, who God-only-knew how she’d ended up there. From what Alerick told him, the Grand Archon had intended to capture Gael not to apprehend him for running around the human world, but to use him to their own ends. By the man’s claims, the magical talent that humans possessed was very limited, especially compared to a demon, as their blood didn’t carry much of the substance that allowed them to control this incredible force. However, demon blood was rich in this substance, and as such, for many, many years, human sorcerers had hunted down demons to take their blood and increase their own power. While this practice had been condemned a long time ago, some sorcerers still used these methods in secret... and the Grand Archon was one such mage. If a demon’s blood is already rich in magic, the blood of one that had actually practiced the magical arts was an even bigger price, and as such, the Archon hadn’t hesitated to take the chance to capture Gael. As the Archon’s sworn enemy, Alerick would not allow such a thing to happen, and so, he had intervened to take Gael in himself and cure the injuries he had suffered, and was now restricting him to his domains for his own safety.
While he was awestruck to find himself before the man who’d inspired him to become who he was (though he didn’t let this show), Gael would definitely not just accept being pretty much imprisoned, and made many attempts to escape the manor that the necromancer had as his base. However, every single time, either Alerick’s minions, his assistant Genevieve, or even his grandniece Persephone managed to stop him from leaving. Eventually, he accepted his new situation and instead moved to spy on the mage to learn all he could from him. Yet, even as he spied on the necromancer, someone else was spying on him: Persephone, who wished to learn magic, and didn’t take too long to take a jump on Gael and ask him to be her master. By the demon’s etiquette code, as he was a guest in the Reighstad house, he was bound to obey the wishes of the eldest female in the “clan”... which, in this case, was the little Persephone.
And such is the situation Gael finds himself in now: living in his rival/idol’s hideout, receiving unofficial lessons from him every now and then, while he in turn teaches his grandniece magic (who, by the way, has the most unstable and unpredictable magical talent he’s ever seen). But when will his dreams of conquest be able to continue? Will they confront the Grand Archon, to win Gael’s freedom back, and bring an end to the story of revenge Alerick seems to have with them...?
LIKES
- Instilling fear into the hearts of humans
- Praise
- Epic tales
- Sweets, especially chocolate
- Blue-green-tongued lizards
DISLIKES
- Cats (toxoplasmosis is very lethal to demons... or so he heard)
- Plants (they barely have any on his world anymore and he finds them freakish)
- His older brother
- Prejudice towards him
HOBBIES AND SKILLS
- Gael excels in the magical school of creation, which consists on creating “living” constructs from inanimate objects through the use of runes and enchantments. Gael’s preferred material for work is a kind of mineral very similar to obsidian, with which he can create all sorts of creatures with the most varied skills. Unfortunately, his judgment for coming up with scary looks for these creatures isn’t too good, and the best his creatures can make looks-wise is give an odd feeling.
- Aside from that, Gael also knows some elemental magic to use for self-defense, as well as some conjuring magic, which he uses mostly to have access to all his stuff anywhere he is without carrying much inventory on himself.
- He’s a quick learner, and can figure out a lot just by watching someone.
STRENGTHS
- Fast learner
- Self-dependant
- Very determined
- Doesn’t take any criticism to heart
- Takes duty and etiquette very seriously
WEAKNESSES
- Doesn’t take any criticism to heart... including the constructive one. He’s almost incapable of overcoming his own flaws, as he doesn’t admit them to himself
- Very conceited and tsundere, it can be hard to put up with him
- A terrible teacher
- Extremely proud, will never ask for help or admit he needs it
Hi! My name is Keiji Naito, and I’m an actor. You might know me from my role as the silent ninja Reizō in the TV adaptation of the story “Virtue’s End”! I’ve still got a long way to go, but people seem to like what I do, and I’m happy for it! However, when I was reading a script my manager Maemi handed me, I somehow found myself transported into the world of the story… right in the middle of the court of the main villain, the demon sorcerer Gael! If I want to survive here, I need to fall into his good graces. Hopefully, my experience at playing Reizō will help me prove myself of value to him… and help me stay alive!
