If you ask anyone to define Cyrus in one word, you’d be putting them in the spot. Of course, everyone would feel compelled to mention his kindness, but... to be completely honest, the first word that comes to mind when thinking about Cyrus is “odd”. No one really knows where he is from, since he always dodges the question, but his behavior and manner of speaking point him to be “not from around here”, in any “here” you ask.
Cyrus is dressed up in the fashion of a figure that’s been growing in fame in the last few years: the so-called “Man of Ash”. The “man” in the tale is said to wear black clothes and a wide-brimmed hat that obscures his features - so much, in fact, that some claim “he” might not even be a man. This Man of Ash is rumored to be some sort of fearsome vigilante who confronts every evildoer they find in their path, leaving nothing but ashes behind. The reputation of this figure has actually led small-time brigands to lay low and act less, and so, many people hoping to do some good have begun dressing up in this fashion to scare off potential criminals who dare not risk a chance to encounter the real deal - that's how scary the tales are.
As for why Cyrus himself is wearing such clothes, when asked, he’ll wave off any mention of the Man of Ash and simply smile and say he’s trying to follow the example of someone he admires. This half-answer won’t strike as odd to anyone who knows him, as he’s generally secretive about everything about him, up to the point of barely even describing his personal tastes. Though this might give off the feeling that he’s a cold and distant man, he’s actually very polite and friendly, loves listening, and will always go out of his way to help anyone he comes across.
But the most puzzling fact about him is the one thing he does easily share about himself: that the goal of his travels is to meet with the God of Death. What could this smiley fella want from such a deity...?

Cyrus met Nell one day at an inn by the road, and the boy started following him around, asking to be travelling companions so they wouldn’t be alone, since they both were looking for something similar: information about the gods. Even though Cyrus was very reluctant at first, eventually he gave in. He actually adores Nell and loves listening to him ramble about history (even if he doesn’t pay much attention to what he’s actually saying), and doesn’t mind at all that pursuing Nell’s research into the gods is actually delaying his own personal goal. Of course, he's only trying to help out the young man, nothing more.
Trivia
- He makes money by picking up odd jobs in the villages and cities he goes through, and sometimes by performing some music at taverns. In fact, he seems to be well-acquainted with a number of instruments, his favourite being the guitar.
- The only personal data he's shared about himself with anyone is that he's got an adoptive mother, and two adoptive little siblings. There is absolutely no way to ever get him to speak of what happened to his biological family.
- The only part of his outfit that isn’t black is a tiny white bag-type backpack he keeps his few belongings in. This backpack is adorned with a cute doggie pawprint. Apparently, this was a gift he got from his little sister when he set out to travel the world, and the pawprint belongs to her (then) puppy dog.
- Despite being on his own for so long, he’s still pretty bad at cooking. What he makes is edible, but with little variety and not too good a taste.
