Eislen
◈
Melancholy Mist
◈
Once a powerful and revered Adeptus, now Eislen has no recollection of his life before awakening in a cave beneath a mountain, without a name to even call himself.
None now remember that he sacrificed his power and his memory to save the lives of those living on his mountain, and those who remember can say nothing at all...

Eislen is a solemn but kindhearted traveler of the world, having a soft spot for Liyue and in particular, Jueyun Karst. He doesn't know how to explain his fondness for the region, only that it stirs something deep in his heart like a forgotten memory- which is exactly what it is.
He does not remember his past as an adepti. His long lived existence remains a mystery to him, with his sought out answers always coming to a dead end. There is a part of him that desperately yearns for answers, but having lived with his own mystery for thousands of years he has come to accept it as a part of himself.
In his travels he discovered the effects of a person having their vision taken from them could be memory loss, and now lives under the assumption that this is what happened to him.
◈
Eislen only knows secondhand stories and tales of himself and he doesn’t even realize it; the adeptus who abandoned his mountain during the archon war and vanished from the world. It was a small village of people who lived on the mountain he protected, and it was nearly destroyed during the archon war. In his desperation to save them, Eislen made a contract with Morax to sacrifice all of his power to save the lives of the people of his mountain, and in doing so, all but disappeared from the world.
Without his power, he was changed to a mortal human’s shape- all that remained to him was his long lifespan. Very few were witness to his act of heroism, and in the war torn aftermath of the archon war, the people of the mountain never saw him again, and felt that he had abandoned them, to flee the carnage. Their reverence of him turned to scorn and anger and betrayal. Those who knew he had saved the lives of the few that he could, could not manage to raise their voices over the clamour of outraged cries, and were eventually lost to time. He became known as the Adeptus who Fled- one of the Adepti who once fought beside Morax that either perished or vanished during the archon war; but not one to be revered, or celebrated- but scorned.
It was somewhat of a mercy then, that Eislen didn’t even remember his own name, much less that these stories of scorn were told of him. When he awoke, his powers and memories were all gone; safeguarded in the deep stone heart of the mountain he once safeguarded, he left it all behind. Yet throughout the centuries he couldn’t escape the feeling that there was a part of himself missing- the vaguest hint of memories that would tickle the back of his mind.
