Hero Stats

Hero Name: Wildcard
Quirk: Luck of the Draw - By activating his quirk while initiating eye contact, Eislen is able to begin a slow drain of another person’s luck, and store it for his own use within specially engineered playing cards. He can then use the luck stored within these cards on himself to influence his own luck in the moment- be it good or bad. The person being drained will then begin to experience whatever opposite luck they started out with when Eislen began the drain from them. Good luck will start to become bad luck, but bad luck will become better and better. Everyone’s luck is different (determined via a 1d20 roll), and his luck drain of a person will affect each one differently. Some people, when experiencing bad luck due to the drain, will have an onset of terrible misfortune immediately, some may only get an eyelash to the eye and call it a day.

Limitations:

  •  Good and Bad luck balance each other out, but there is a set limit to the amount of either he can have within himself- if he exceeds that limit in either direction all of the stolen luck leaves him immediately and he will black out from the overwhelming sensation. The same applies to the people he's draining- the luck moves on a scale, and if he takes a person's bad luck, it zeroes them out to neutral and then progresses into becoming good if Eislen continues. It's not a permanent state that he leaves this person in, however, as the luck scale tends to naturally gravitate back toward neutral (0 on the scale) in the span of a day.
  •  He uses the cards as storage because it's one of the few items he's found out he can store it in. Other items he's had success with were those that had to do with luck such as dice, or coins. He prefers the cards for the easy use and access on his person. He utilizes the luck storage because of his limitations. To be able to have a stockpile of luck on hand without accidentally maxing himself out before a critical moment, otherwise he would simply drain the luck directly into himself and bypass having to store it anywhere first.
  •  He has no way of knowing if a card is going to give him good or bad luck until he’s activated it. It’s all a gamble. He only allows himself the 20 cards in an attempt to not max out his limits. The longer he's been given to drain someone however, the more extreme he knows the strength of the luck will be, given that he will have had time to push it into a higher potency.
  •  Any time he reaches his limit and blacks out, his limitations grow smaller upon regaining consciousness- repeating this will eventually cause the limit to zero out completely and leave him completely unable to use his quirk at all. He's found that he needs at least 24 hours minimum without using his quirk to recuperate back up to his full limit if he reaches that point.
  •  If the eye contact breaks the luck drain is still active, but will gradually become much slower and weaker unless it’s re-initiated through eye contact again. It won't stop on it’s own unless Eislen intentionally stops it, potentially draining a person to the worst possible luck they could have- or the absolute best- very slowly until no more can be taken, or a full 24 hours passes since the first initiation. The luck drain will immediately cut off if he takes any sort of damage (anything as tame as a smack to the back of the head will do) or gets knocked unconscious.
  •  He can drain his own luck to refill his cards by using a mirror, but as he is a limited resource, it takes much longer than if someone else is willing to volunteer for him. It will result in the drained person experiencing their luck change for the next 24 hours though.
  •  He can only use the cards on himself, as he has to be holding the card and activating his quirk to use them. He’s been working to figure out a way to transfer the drained luck to people aside from himself but with no luck yet.
  •  He can't just erase the luck he's drained and stored on the cards, they have to be used up by him eventually or else he can't clear them to empty and refill them again. All of the luck he drains from people will pass on to him at some point, it cant just go nowhere.

Upgrade I: Eislen is now able to transfer stored luck to other people via one time use charms. The charms activate with a person's intent and gives them a luck boost for a certain action. When the person wishes to use their charm, they will roll their intended action twice and a moderator will tell them if it was advantage or disadvantage (good luck, or bad luck). Once a charm has been used it returns to being a luckless object, and needs to be returned to Eislen to be reloaded again.

Limitations:

  • He can still only use luck related items to create the charms- he has a preference toward dice.
    • Creating a luck charm with intended good or bad luck is still a guessing game, he has to try and predict what kind of luck he’s putting into it based off of observation of the person he’s drained it from.
    • Eislen can only create so many luck charms in a day (2d3 rolls) before the affect starts to disorient him- continuing to push beyond this will result in nosebleeds and then unconsciousness. The displacement of so much luck passing through him but not returning like it would via his cards disrupts his equilibrium and puts a heavy strain on his body.

Primary Course Focus: Reconnaissance

Personals

Personality

Eislen is a charismatic and cheerful person, always on the lookout to make connections and new friends. There are times when his social understandings seem a little off, which can be attributed to his rather lonely upbringing out in the middle of nowhere with his cousin. School has always been the pinnacle of human connection for him throughout his life, so he revels in the chance to return to one again.

At the same time, he is nervous to begin putting his quirk to practical use. He wants to make a good first impression. Despite his quirk having such negative affects on the people it’s used on, he’s anxiously optimistic that he can succeed and be a good hero. He does everything in his power not to let it show that he’s nervous of course, adopting a bit of a showman persona and throwing in a confident flair he’s sure will dazzle and make people like him.

Underneath the layers and masks he puts on he’s a thoroughly sincere and kindhearted person. His desire to do good for the world despite the odds stacked against him is what drove him to apply for Schuyler despite the horrors of the villain takeover.

Likes: Biology, instrumental music, outdoor exploration
Dislikes: Windowless rooms, deliberate cruelty, fire

History: Eislen never got the chance to meet his own parents, after being bounced through a few foster homes from birth through to his early childhood. He was found by chance by a distant cousin of his, Ephraim, when he was about 4, and taken in by him reluctantly at the request of his current foster parents. It was a difficult first few years for the two of them- Ephraim was still grieving the loss of his husband, and unsure how to raise a child, and Eislen was a strongly outgoing personality growing restless in the reclusive cabin Ephraim lived in.

The emergence of his quirk caused a new set of problems when he accidentally stole all of Ephriam’s good luck and caused him to fall down the stairs and break his arm. Eislen viewed his quirk as a danger to others after that, avoiding having to use it at all if possible. He only started using his quirk again when he discovered he could use it on himself. Willing to shoulder the consequences of draining his own luck, he finally learned to explore and practice using his own powers at 16.

He never considered pursuing a career as a hero, going to regular primary and secondary schools rather than any hero focused ones. After graduating he didn't continue on to university at first, choosing instead to take on as many odd jobs as he could that would give him the chance to see as many places as he could. When the villain takeover at Schuyler University went down he happened to be visiting Boston at the time and had to be one of the civilians evacuating, but witnessing for himself over the next few months through the news the students bravery in defeating the villains, inspired him to make an effort to use his quirk for the benefit of others.

He applied for Schuyler as soon as the school re-opened for applications.

Extras:

  • He wears heels to try and be taller but it doesn't work
    • He doesn’t use any weapon, preferring to keep his hands free to use the cards at all times, instead employing hand to hand combat should the need arise.
    • The cards strapped to his right side are always going to be the ones that have been filled, the ones on his left side are the empty ones.
    • His right eye’s pupil is permanently contracted & the cornea lost all pigment due to an injury that was caused by his quirk. He doesn’t have heterochromia; his normal eye color is a dark brown.
    • Because of his eye he often needs to wear prescription glasses in order to focus his vision properly for longer periods of time.
    • He is utterly FASCINATED with anything to do with biology and nature.
