Hel was once a simple botanist who owned his own flower shop. He enjoyed studying and domesticating exotic plants for the sake of adding more beauty into everyday life. Unfortunately, his meddling with rather dangerous foliage came back to haunt him. One day, he encountered a rather exquisite plant, known only to man as a void bloom, and turned his attention to working it into a docile state. Things took a rather devastating turn as he found the toxins that the plant released affected both his mind and body. Slowly, the botanist began to find life mundane and bland. True beauty lay with what came after this fragile, pathetic existence; in death. Hel began driving his creations to their own demise, watching his blooms rot and decay. Though that was not enough. He eventually turned his attention to humans, whose deaths were far more complex than plants. Dark magic soon followed, and Hel adopted the rather nasty habit of enjoying the sight of things dying... and the gratification of bringing that being back to repeat the process.

Personality

nIBjFq7.png

Hel is rather unpleasant to be around overall. He is very cold and hostile towards anything that still breathes. He'll even go as far as to patronize and ridicule any who do not submit to the cold embrace of death. While vicious to the living, he's quite the opposite to the dead and undead. He thinks of them as his pets and his projects... his way to reintroduce beauty into the world. Because of this, they see his softer side and are spoiled with affection from the dark mage.

Character Notes

  • Though he claims not to remember his age, Hel is actually in his early forties. His magic has slowed down his aging though, and so he resembles someone much younger.

Design Notes

  • Hel does, indeed, have black hands. Thanks to his continued practice and work with the dark arts, his very being has become corrupted. It manifests physically with his hands becoming ashen black and resembling claws more than actual, human hands.
  • This necromancer has a third eye situated vertically on his forehead. It was through the awakening of this third, mind's, eye that Hel began to make his way down this rather unbecoming path.
  • Hel does have feet, he's simply given up using them thanks to his ability to levitate. His toes have turned an ashen black just as his hands have.

Ysolde [ Cult Leader ]

The leader of the Black Hand, and a constant thorn in Hel's side. Though he acts as her second in command, he cannot stand the woman, and will often go out of his way to simply make her angry. In truth, Ysolde is quite jealous of Hel's skills in necromancy.

Isaiah [ Subordinate ]

Ysolde's younger brother and fellow cultist of the Black Hand. Hel much prefers his company to that of his sister's, and will actually seek out Isaiah when his tasks require the prescence of another... though he finds the young man's constant chatter grating nonetheless.

Madam Circe [ Old Friend ]

One of the only people that Hel actually trusts. She's a childhood friend of his, and a fellow mage as well. The two of them get along exceedingly well despite their near opposite personalities... though Hel can't stand her sons.

Hecate & Calixto [ Pseudo Nephews ]

Hel has known the twins since they were very young, and has even helped to raise them... to an extent. Still, despite caring for them at one point, he finds the young mages to be rather insufferable.

Father Llyr [ Annoyance ]

A fanatical priest that Hel really can't stand. It seems like Llyr can't get it through his thick, fish head that Hel really doesn't care to appease the gods and promote their wrath... not that the other will ever believe him.
