It's mostly an unspoken rule among the residents of the city to be nice to the local butcher, mostly due to his nature, memory issues, and how long he's been there for the city working in the only real meat market there. Deon is friendly, very talkative and fond of story telling, though half the time what he's saying might not make sense or be completely fabricated. He doesn't really seem to show any signs that he's even aware that what he's saying isn't always true or doesn't always make sense. No one is quite sure why he's like that, though they assume it to be a product of a time when he temporarily left the city and came back, not being quite right ever since. If he remembers what happened, he sure doesn't seem to talk about it.
There are a few things to not talk about with Deon. Asking him about his family or memory issues causes him to tense up and get really confused, particularly with his family. He doesn't appear to remember them, that or just dislikes the subject. Again, not many people know exactly what is up with him, especially since his memory issues got a little worse. He can remember some things, but others get lost or embellished as different memories. It's mostly best to not acknowledge his quirks and just nod and listen to him for a while.
Other than his weird issues with some things, he's a good butcher and very friendly, making good friends with a lot of the residents, even if at times he has to re-ask their names or details about them as it takes a few tries for it to really stick to him. He tried going to Kierce once for a session to try and understand his memory problems when it was brought up on a few occasions, but Kierce was mostly unable to help him as Deon refused to listen to most ideas of how to help, especially when it came to any medications. So, people just stopped acknowledging there was an issue as it wasn't hurting anyone and didn't want to bother him or stress him out about it.

- Deon's memory issues are in no way related to any real world disease! It's based on a fictional disease on Cabibera that can be caught from specific plants rarely. It has a cure in early stages, but Deon never thought to bring up that he was sick, and now he doesn't even really remember his encounter with that particular plant.
