It usually is the equivalent of an "Extreme body builder" mentality.

Slime biology, in one aspect, is quite similar to the anti-freeze equation - 50% water 50% antifreeze is the most effective for stuff actually not freezing. Taking on water to get bigger is possible, but it also gets a harder to manage their own weight. Making it look effortless is the challenge.
