One of the few sister pairs on the ship, Bridit's parent Bidhit was a legendary xeno-linguist, end explicitly sought out for this mission. Baedar, her sister, is there at her insistence.
Bridit does the base scholarship of translating Earth's languages - both the electronic models (further developed by programmers like Gil'peve, who happens to be a roommate) and the protein ones. The later which, once replicated, can be injected into another goo alien and integrated into their memories.
The issue with this system is that, like any language, it needs reinforcement to properly integrate. If someone got, say, the French Injection, and the proceeeded not to try and have frence conversation the next several months, they would find it pretty much impossible to learn the languge as any neual pathways would be set up incorrectly. And subsequent injections would just add to confusion.
