Odette

People rarely ever see Odette if she’s not on the stage, working her magic. On stage, she thrives as she dances. Her smile is genuine, like she hasn’t a care in the world. Fabric spirals around her in the lights: her dress, her bows, her ribbons. The stage is the only place she seems truly happy - and perhaps with good reason.

The fact of the matter is that Odette is an incredibly bitter person. Her bitterness spills over the edges with any interaction with another person. She can’t exactly help it - life dealt her a cruel hand from day one and she hasn’t exactly dealt with it well. Odette has the most pessimistic outlook on life ever and it kind of drives others away from her.

Odette feels that the only thing that keeps her going is her birds and her dancing career. This means that Odette is a serial workaholic - she can be found rehearsing at 2am with no apparent reason and functions on very little sleep. It’s actually a problem that she refuses to confront and has caused a lot of issues in her dance troupe. She often wants them to rehearse more than they already do, and they don’t.

Unfortunately, Odette is also incredibly stubborn. It takes years for her opinions on things to change, which means that she herself also takes years to change. She knows she should be more of a team player, and she does try a little bit, but she tends to clash with others. It rather stings that she isn’t able to have a more positive relationship with people, but she hasn’t done much about it so it is rather her fault.

Odette doesn’t like to talk about her past, especially her childhood. She’s repressed most of the memories of her abusive family, and her time on the streets during her teenage years didn’t help her any. Then was the rift chaos when Chandra very nearly opened a portal back into the universe before Cynthia put a stop to it… you get the picture.

Regardless of the hell Odette’s been through, she would definitely say her life picked up just a wee bit when she started taking dance classes at a community center. It was Chandra’s idea, of course. Chandra wanted Odette to get off her ass and do something productive. It… worked. As in, Odette became obsessed with the idea of being a dancer and discovered that she thrived on a stage, which then led to her becoming over-involved with all the dance ever.

Luckily, Odette found Rhythmia, who became both a mentor and a parental substitute. Rhythmia encouraged Odette to start therapy and hone her natural dancing talent. This worked out very well in Odette’s favor, because she managed to start turning her life around a bit. Even if she’s still working on clicking with the other dancers while doing not-dance things, it’s been good for her.
