  • Meredith
  • The daughter of high-standing nobles of Highwater, Meredith abandoned her life of luxury at a young age due to her parent's strict hold on her life, running away and living on the streets until she joined a gang of individuals that would soon become the most powerful mafia in Highwater; The Razorbacks. She was close friends with the now-boss, Lucille, and the current underboss, Adrian, when they were younger and now carries herself as a highrank, working alongside Lucille, spending time with the cryptid she found in the woods, Niklenip, or spending time with her other friends in her downtime. However, though she may seem friendly and warm-hearted to those who befriend her, to underestimate her is a foolish choice, considering her abilities as a half-demon make her one of the strongest Razorbacks, and she has no issue proving that if she has to at any point.

"Fine! You wanna know what my biggest fear is? Finally allowing myself to count on someone, and then having them ditch me again!"

About

Meredith is a high-ranking member of the Highwater's most powerful mafia, The Razorbacks. She is noted to be friends with Lucille and Adrian, considers herself friends with Lucille's adopted daughter, Rocky, and is friends with multiple members of the mafia due to her charming personality, though she's most often seen with Niklenip, the beast she found herself in the forest one night while drinking. When not with any of them, she's usually at the tavern drinking with her friend, Amber.

Known for her free-spirit, Meredith's charm as a half-succubus was something she was known for not just in the mafia world, her pretty face and suave, charming way of speaking almost managing to mask her intimidating nature and the fact that she's a much stronger fighter than most tend to bargain her for. Her blood causes plenty to underestimate her, a foolish choice in the end considering Meredith's full potential, but she appreciates it all the same, considering it makes her job all the more easier. Despite being the leader of Sector Blue in the mafia, Meredith is much more relaxed than some assume her to be, living life for the fun of it for the most part, but it's unwise to perceive that as laziness; Meredith is terrifyingly good at her job when she's given a task, and to cross her is unadvised, considering the halfling is also noted to be one of the strongest members of The Razorbacks when it comes to powers and brute strength. The woman might seem intimidating to strangers, but it's only those who manage to get close to her that get to see Meredith's warmer side..

Meredith's hedonistic and carefree personality is not one to be taken advantage of, she is one of Lucille's most trusted underlings for a reason, and she is known for being particularly ruthless in combat, fighting dirty and with brute strength by using her half-demon blood to win fights and using her natural charm with that same blood to weasel her way into places she shouldn't be.

Personality

Known by most who don’t know her very well as an extremely tough, intimidating person at first glance, Meredith is, by all means, tough, and has a very blunt and sharp personality when first spoken to depending on the person, but most of her friends note her as a kind person at heart. She is a very strong hedonist, really only living life for her own pleasure and being extremely sensually self-indulgent, and she’s known to be a very rebellious free-spirit, having little to no regard for law-following especially considering her lifestyle. She’s quick to fight others if pushed, enjoying the sense of adrenaline she gets from it. Around close friends she’s rather affectionate and loves to tease or make playful jabs at them all in good fun, playfully flirting with close friends just to see their reactions. She has a strong sense of humour and a sharp wit, and though reckless and not the type to use forethought, she’s not unintelligent. She can be rather selfish, but will stop to help someone if she can tell they’re in true need of aid. Meredith dislikes talking about what bothers her and tends to keep it to herself, a byproduct of how her parents raised her, and that style of parenting as well makes her prone to verbally aggressive outbursts if pushed too far. She has a strong, deep loyalty to her friends and considers them all a family of sorts due to her attempts of distancing herself from her blood family and would openly fight to her last breath for any of them, especially Adrian and Lucille to name two. She's noted by many for her extreme loyalty to her found family and to The Razorbacks in general, her dedication, her persistance, and her passionate nature, especially when it comes to her friends or work.

For years, since she'd turned eighteen, Meredith had a strong aversion to romance outside of sexual encounters due to feeling as if it were a waste of time and as she herself couldn't truly feel it, which in reality was a way to cope with what she went through as a teenager, though after meeting her current girlfriend, she finally began to realise that she, herself, was capable of love just like anyone else as the two slowly helped each other learn what romantic love truly felt like. She’s an incredibly outgoing, charismatic person and can easily flirt or charm her way into what she wants as well. Known to be extremely cocky, confident, and a bit of a show-off as well, Meredith can get on people’s nerves if her ego is raised high enough, most of the time without knowing. Some might consider her a bit of an brute as well considering her vulgar nature and her short temper, though her patience grows the closer one gets to her. She’s extremely protective of friends and can act rather irrationally as well. Despite all this, she is surprisingly responsible and is a surprisingly good person to talk to when one of her friends needs a shoulder to lean on, able to offer solid advice at times if she’s willing. She’s stubborn as a bull, a daredevil, and can quickly get on her friend’s nerves, but she’s known to be a good person to have around regardless.

Secretly, however, Meredith hides any amount of melancholy she still contains within her behind her cheery and confident personality. Notably crying, she rarely cries and if she does she hides, she hates crying in front of others due to her absolutely DESPISING emotional vulnerability (another byproduct of the way she grew up with her parents). With her blood, that's not too surprising, considering her species' stereotypes unfortunately aren't that positive (You know, because plenty of people just view succubi/half-succubi as objects). This along with her former unwillingness to let go of the past, for a while, made her painfully reluctant to allow herself to truly grow up, her refusal to let go of the past also making her painfully naive in the same right. Though, after she and Lucille moved to make up after their argument later into the storyline, Meredith has shown herself willing to mature now and has made leaps and bounds to prove that. Though she's still very much herself, she seems to have gained a bit more sense in general compared to her teenage self, being more relaxed and more easygoing as well. Though typically unapologetically herself, she's also always willing to admit her flaws these days rather than simply trying to ignore them.

Positive Traits

  • Confident, it's hard to make Meredith insecure unless you're very close to her. It's rare to see her insecure and if she is, something very bad has likely happened.
  • Bold, she is not one to shy away from taking risks and will especially do so to help her friends if needed.
  • LOYAL, Meredith HIGHLY values the bonds between her and her friends, she'd fight to the death for them if she had to and she's extremely willing to push to keep those friendships intact. Those who manage to befriend Meredith receive a highly dedicated, caring person in their life, her tough exterior typically loosening around those she finds comfort in.
  • Fearless, it's hard to frighten Meredith, truthfully one of her biggest fears is losing her found family, and it's difficult to scare her otherwise.
  • Passionate, dedicated and persistant, Meredith is extremely dedicated to her job and lifestyle, being a strong member of The Razorbacks both by her abilities and her determination alone. Whether she's passionate about a bond she has with someone else or with a job she's been assigned to, it's clear to others just how dedicated she is to that thing all the same.
  • Charming, she's very capable of manipulating others if she truly wants (she usually won't), considering her succubi blood gives her...perks. Her sauve nature can charm most into talking with her most of the time, making her very charismatic, but this can, if necessary, also make her extremely intimidating.

Negative Traits

  • Selfish, unless you're one of her friends she tends to value herself over others, mostly due to her upbringing. Though, if she sees a person truly in need of aid, depending on the situation she will typically at least try to help.
  • Reckless, she will throw herself in front of people who are about to get hit and will also make impulsive decisions purely if she thinks they'll work. She rarely uses much forethought, which can lead to her getting into rough situations.
  • Brutish, she fights dirty and roughly and isn't afraid to use her strength to get her point across. Though, truthfully, she's not one for making kills particularly violent or drawn out unless her target has pushed her to that point (Ex. Max and Trent, due to them mutilating Rocky).
  • Desensitised to violence, considering she grew up in a mafia since thirteen, though she only truly became desensitised around her 20s.
  • She's stubborn and dislikes admitting vulnerability. Though Rhino and usually close friends can get her to let go of this, this doesn't stop her from occasionally doing things such as letting wounds fester just so they'll scar or refusing to listen to advice to follow the beat of her own drum.
  • Bottles up feelings. Meredith dislikes talking about what is bothering her unless a CLOSE friend is asking her, and even then it tends to take pushing to get her to say much. She eventually lets the feelings explode if pushed, and it's never pretty.

Strengths

  • Good with cooperation, she works well with others, even if they're Razorbacks she's not close with.
  • Natural leader, if assigned to lead a mission she typically does it flawlessly, she's able to make calls and give orders without much issue. Her strategic mind also makes her a strong planner, all of which makes her an excellent Caporegime.
  • Meredith is a strong fighter, leading a fighting-based Sect for a reason. Her refusal to back down from challenges most of time also makes her get shit done when it's required of her, though some might see this as a flaw when it comes to doing things that seem near-impossible.
  • Physically affectionate, she LOVES physical affection, whether it be arms slung around shoulders or just pats on the back, but she also knows how to respect boundaries. Despite her intimidating appearance, if needed she's surprisingly good at making others feel better, whether it be with hugs or otherwise.
  • Persuasive, due to her charming nature it's not difficult for her to charm her way out of things if need be, it's likely gotten her out of plenty of rough situations.
  • Great at increasing morale, partially due to her sense of humour. She likes to make others smile or laugh, and tends to make even herself laugh with whatever stupid joke or witty remark she might be trying to make.

Weaknesses

  • Above all else, Meredith does not take losing friends well, and it can lead her into being desperate to fix things, even if it's seemingly a complete lost cause. Her dedication to her bonds with others can be seen as a positive trait, though it's also very clear that she occasionally does have issues letting things go. She's good with rejection, but losing people out of nowhere is an entirely different matter.
  • Reckless fighter who also tends to throws herself in front of others. Due to her healing factor she tends to believe that her getting hurt is less lethal than them getting hurt.
  • Clings to the past. Partially due to her immortality, Meredith refuses to let go of past memories and it can result in her being painfully naive when it comes to how things between her and other people have changed. She clings to the past partially to cope.
  • Holds grudges. She is not one to let go of something if someone wrongs her or her friends in her eyes, and if it sets her off enough it can lead to her acting out against the perpetrator rather recklessly (an example being Drake after he hurt Amber).
  • Too cocky for her own good, her cockiness can get her in trouble sometimes, especially in dire situations. She thinks she's tough shit, basically.
  • Has difficulty in processing romantic feelings. Perhaps it's how she was raised, but she doesn't come to terms with them easily, which might be why it's surprising to her friends when she mentions liking someone.

"I found my true family when I found The Razorbacks, the ones prior to that were just..." Meredith pauses to find a word for it, "a...cheap facade of what family actually is capable of being." She smiles a little, wistfully. Likes

  • Tattoos, hence why she's covered in them.
  • Alcohol, not really to get super drunk, mostly just for the buzz.
  • Lucille, Rocky, Niklenip, and Adrian, considering they're likely her closest friends.
  • Cecil (which is a given considering they're dating), specifically spending quality time with her.
  • Physical Affection, especially from friends.
  • Flirting, or in general just being a cheeky fuck.

Dislikes

  • Lying. She is capable of it and will do it if needed, but she absolutely will not and cannot ever lie to anyone she's close to.
  • Feeling insecure in the slightest.
  • Blue-bloods (excluding herself, of course).
  • Her immortality, considering she knows that she will likely outlive most if not all of her mortal friends.
  • Talking about her parents.
  • Being stereotyped as an object because of her blood, she fully calls herself a whore and a slut and could care less about being called one but the idea of being seen purely as an object upsets her, not that she'll ever tell you that, though.

Hobbies

  • Spending time with those close to her, specifically Lucille, Niklenip, Rocky, Adrian, or Cecil.
  • Sparring, usually with friends or if she's helping someone practice.
  • Drinking or smoking, she does it recreationally, though also for stress.
  • Committing crimes or causing general trouble for the guards, she prefers doing it with friends, but is fine doing it on her own. It reminds her of her youth, in a way, causing trouble.
  • Walking around the village at night, whether or not she's meeting up with someone she likes the atmosphere.
  • Flirting with people just for the fun of it.

Skills

  • She is able to control fire to her will, as well as not be burned at all. This can range from her lighting her body on fire at will or sending explosive bursts of fire toward enemies if she has to.
  • Skilled physical fighter, she's been training since she was thirteen, after all. Her strength makes her even more of a force to be reckoned with.
  • Enhanced regeneration, she can heal any wound that's not a missing limb or organ within minutes, NOT wounds caused by holy weapons, though.
  • Skilled with firearms, once again, she trained to use them, she probably has one on her at all times during missions.
  • Street-smart, due to living on the streets for a period of her youth she has a solid knowledge of the village, and her knowledge of the upper class quarter as well as knowledge on certain blue-bloods is a solid advantage.
  • Extremely strong, she can lift up to 800lbs due to her demon blood.
"Well," Meredith smiles a weak yet warm smile, regarding Lucille with a hesitant grey-blue gaze, but not one that lacked warmth. "I stayed because...It'd be unlike me to not want to see the person I've loved for years change for the better."

"Still think I'm just a pretty face?"

Appearance

Carrying herself at 6 feet exactly, Meredith is a tall woman with a lightly muscular build that hides her true strength. She is curvy as well, though not extremely, and she has fair skin that's marred with scars and practically covered in tattoos, her most notable tattoos being the black fleur-de-lis on the side of her throat, the large moth spreading across her chest, and the tattoos on her hands and fingers. As a teenager she had near shoulder-length messy, scruffy black hair, though at around twenty-two she cut it into a messy pixie cut and dyed it cerulean herself, though if she doesn't style it it commonly still gets in her eyes just slightly. Her eyes are a stormy blue, grey mixed with blue. She tends to wear little makeup on an already pretty face, she'd been blessed by her parents with naturally good lucks which she uses plenty to her advantage. Her brows are thick and are their natural colour still, and she has two silver studs on either side of the right one, right next to a slash cutting through the brow, a mark given to her by Lucille as a symbol of her being apart of The Razorbacks once she became leader. She notes having several other piercings as well.

As she is half-demon, Meredith has a set of black horns that sprout from her temples and curl back to the back of her head, resting a few inches above her skull. They taper up in points which can shoot fire if she's angry or excited. Her teeth are naturally sharp, specifically her canines, which are also longer than average. Meredith's pupils are cat-like, and she has pointed ears, her ears tend to perk or droop down depending on her emotion, similar to how her pupils dilate or slit when looking at people she likes or dislikes, or when she's afraid or not. Her canines, both top and bottom, are longer than usual and sharper.

After being taken by Dolor and then later rescued by The Razorbacks, Meredith had gained a few more scars along her body, one notable one being on her shoulder and ending at the base of her throat, and the other being a stab wound on her abdomen that crosses diagonally over her navel.

Meredith's attire mostly consists of typical mafia attire mixed with fashion of her own personal flair. She frequently wears button-ups and suit or normal jackets (typically draped over her shoulders), for example. She, like Lucille, wears heels near constantly, usually making her around 6'3-6'4 compared to her actual height. Whether they be normal heels or heeled boots matters little to her. As she is more masculine than feminine by appearance, Meredith accentuates most of her traces of feminity to play with her androgynous flair, usually purposefully leaving button-ups half-buttoned or wearing revealing clothing. She is frequently seen with cigarettes on her person, and especially after the incident with Dolor she almost always has her own gun or knife on her when out, usually hidden within her jacket.

Lucille: Best Friend, Boss

Time known each other: 10 years

Meeting eachother upon Meredith joining the pre-Razorback Cardoza Gang, both Lucille and Meredith likely got along so well partly because they were both extremely cocky and reckless as kids (something Meredith never exactly dropped). Despite them bickering on the occasion, Meredith considered Lucille, along with Adrian, the closest thing to a family she had back then, as the two were her closest friends. The two also had a tendency of competing for scars as kids as well, notably (especially considering that because of it Meredith would just force her body to heal wounds "normally" so it'd scar. Idiot). They would very frequently playfully flirt with one another as well and their closeness was...likely the reason Meredith unfortunately began to also fall for Lucille as a teenager as well. Unfortunate, considering Lucille didn't feel the same way and didn't realise that Meredith had begun reading the other woman's flirtations differently, however, despite how head-over-heels Meredith was, she was too scared to admit it, worrying that her species might hinder what relationship they could have. It didn't stop her from longing for it though, and internally she wished Lucille would turn and ask her the question she was too nervous to ask. Meredith, though not knowing who it was until introduced, caught on when Lucille began sneaking out to meet Tess, something that, upon her discovering it, she felt completely heartbroken over, though she of course never allowed this to be seen by anyone, refusing to possibly damage her friendship with Lucille or her budding friendship with Tess. It's unsure of when exactly Meredith completely got over Lucille (she certainly struggled at first, though I'd wager she was 100% over her at MOST when Luc got engaged), but she at least 100% pulled away from making potential advances around this point (outside of her and the Trio's typical playful flirting, of course). She didn't need to be in a romantic relationship with Lucille to be happy, she was happy with her around regardless of relationship status, and that fact as well as her friend's happiness was all that mattered to Meredith. After the incident with Ludwig, Meredith had watched Lucille shut everyone around her off in utter horror and heartbreak, and instead of letting their friendship die off she worked tirelessly to prove to the other woman that she could trust her, not pushing her for the sake of giving her time to grieve, obviously, and not obsessively, but being at least present so the other woman would at least know that she was around regardless, and once she did regain that trust, she happily took what was offered to her, happy that they were finally on solid speaking terms once more. A part of Meredith, the realistic part, knew that they might never have the same relationship they had as teenagers, though a part of her, the hopeful one, still strived to attempt to get that relationship truly back, considering that, at the time, to cope, Meredith was still firmly refusing to let go of their childhood, so much to the point where it...honestly blinded her to the reality of their relationship. Meredith's flaw in this relationship, however, was the fact that, in all honesty, she loved Lucille even if, unbeknownst to her, Lucille's trust in her was still slightly skewed, and with Meredith having been too cautious to act as she used to around Lucille, they had both unintentionally befriended ghosts of who they formerly were. There were points over the six years where Meredith Did feel like something was wrong, but she, of course, never brought it up. It took an argument and Meredith finally letting loose the bottled up negative feelings she'd been containing for the past six years for a step to fix their fragmented relationship to be taken, and though it's slow, Meredith is happy that her friend is at least willing to work alongside her in their attempts to repair it. She is aware that she values Lucille more than Lucille values her still, but understands as well that it's to be expected when her friend has a wife and child to be above her on her list of priorities. Truthfully, Meredith's list of priorities has changed as well, and though Lucille is definitely near the top, she has someone else to focus on as well that's taken the first spot, which, despite their bond, Meredith knows that it's for the best. Regardless, she enjoys the time she spends with Lucille greatly, even if, at this point in their lives, it's through conversations held at the rare times Lucille is free, when Meredith is spending time in her office with her, or when they're occasionally working alongside one another as Boss and Caporegime. The continuous cheeky banter they fire at each other and their still playful nature when chatting reminds Meredith a bit of how they were when they were younger, though Meredith understands that things can't and won't ever be like how they were when they were kids again, but she's found herself more okay with that than she'd expected to be.

Adrian: Best Friend

Time known each other: 10 years

As teenagers, Meredith and Adrian were close as all hell, the two notoriously knowng for doing stupid shit that they'd inevitably have to get themselves out of. Adrian was apart of the found family the Teen Trio had made itself into, after all, so Meredith cared for her greatly, whilst, of course, also playfulling picking on her, teasing her, or flirting with her as she did with Lucille (though, the latter was obviously with different intent). While they did get along as teenagers, even being known to confide in one another, after Lucille shut them both out after Lupine had killed Ludwig Meredith and Adrian's friendship began to fragment and slowly fall apart due to the different ways she and Adrian coped with suddenly being distrusted by Lucille. While Meredith slowly and patiently worked to regain Lucille's trust, understanding that the trauma she suffered had likely caused her to shut everyone out and expressing empathy over it, Adrian had grown lost over Lucille's sudden refusal to trust her like she'd done prior even if she, like Meredith, felt empathy over the situation, and while Meredith had understood at first, hoping Adrian would slowly manage to regain Lucille's trust as well, within several months their relationship had all but fizzled, the two having simply...drifted apart from each other, perhaps as well due to Adrian's increased focus on her own job and because of Meredith's period post-shut-out where she simply avoided being in the manor as much as possible, drifting away from everyone in the process. Meredith was hurt at first, blaming herself for allowing their relationship to fall apart as it had, though, eventually simply grew to accept it, and due to their inability to communicate on it, Meredith simply assumed that Adrian didn't want her around as a friend anymore and, despite the pain it caused, decided to respect that (Like with Lucille she likely made Attempts at fixing things at first but nothing came of it). This and Adrian's early mistreatment of Rocky solidified Meredith's decision to distance herself from Adrian, refusing to stay close to someone who'd bully a child to vent out whatever anger they had toward their parent. Later, after she and Lucille begin to repair their relationship, Meredith does begin to once again regret the fact that their relationship had fallen apart, and after a later conversation with Adrian, finally begins to feel like things with her are also on the right track, having, at the time, not realised how much she'd missed the Underboss' company. She considers Adrian her best friend like she does with Lucille, and, like when they were teenagers, is very playful, trusting, and protective of her, still being willing to leap in front of blows for her to keep her safe.

Cecil: Enemy, future Lover/Girlfriend

Time known each other: ???

Amber: Close Friend

Time known each other: 10 years

Meeting each other as kids while Meredith was out on the street, Meredith lived with Amber for a period of time before she later moved into the Cardoza's manor once she joined up with their gang, and the two became extremely close friends. Meredith confided in Amber and Amber did the same for Meredith, and the two trust each other completely with anything and know they can rely on one another if need be. Despite this, to cope with losing Lucille when she was 17, Meredith, in an act to keep her feelings for Lucille hidden and in some attempt to cope with being shut out, tried to force herself to form feelings for Amber, using it as a distraction, and, unbeknownst to her at the time, an excuse to leave the Razorbacks if it got to a point where there'd be no point in staying. This bit her in the ass later on, considering she was forced to drop these faked feelings and pretend that the relationship didn't work out after Vi began showing interest in Amber, considering Meredith had also been the one to introduce her to the smaller girl. She felt extremely guilty for how she'd decided to cope with her prior heartbreak, even if Amber had no idea, feeling as if she'd used the girl even if no harm had really come of it in the end. Despite being in The Razorbacks, Meredith still frequently visits Amber to spend time with her, enjoying her company and liking to keep Amber company on days where she's alone in the tavern.

Rocky: Friend

Time known each other: 2 years

Though a bit, admittedly, worried at first about the prospect of raising a child in a violent mafia (ironic, considering Meredith had been in similar circumstances at 13), Meredith quickly grew attached to Rocky after officially meeting her, instigating herself, in a way, as a third guardian for her outside of Lucille and Tess, hense why she views Rocky almost like a younger sibling or a niece in a way. She's typically eager to teach the halfling anything asked of her and likes taking her out with her when she goes out to do mostly non-dangerous jobs on her own, partially to help the kid get out of the manor sometimes and without the risk of her getting hurt in the process. If push came to shove she'd likely jump in front of a gun for the kid if necessary and she is fully willing to tease and playfully bully her as one might with their own younger sibling. She sees a lot of her younger self in Rocky similar to Lucille, but after the incident with Dolor, Meredith becomes rather unsure just how happy that makes her, originally having seen it as a reminder of her childhood, and now seeing it as a possible warning sign considering how reckless Meredith was and still is as an adult.

Niklenip: Friend

Time known each other: About a year or so?

Meeting the beast in the woods while drinking alone, Meredith rather impulsively decided to let him follow her not only to the Highwater village but also to the Razorback base, upon first sight being immediately intrigued by the beast that had also stolen the alcohol she'd been drinking at the time. She is one of the two people in the Razorbacks closest to Niklenip (the other being Rocky), and she enjoys hanging around the beast, typically liking to nap with it if given the chance. They both share a sentiment in wanting to keep Rocky safe and Meredith is perfectly willing to go the extra mile to keep Niklenip happy and comfortable, even if that means glaring at Highwater citizens when they walk down the city streets together. She is incredibly protective over the beast and heavily dislikes seeing them hurt, clearly seen with her panic over seeing Dolor harm them when they were both captured by the Bullseyes. She views Niklenip as a close friend and companion, trusting him highly, and if she's not spending her time with any of her other close friends, she's likely at least near them, spending time napping together or simply chatting about whatever.

Avis: Former Friend

Time known each other: 2 months

Considering their first meeting had been when Meredith was chained up and in the process of being tortured by the Bullseye leader, Dolor, most would assume that Meredith would despise Avis considering the harpy's former allegiance to the Bullseyes, though upon Avis' attempt at helping Meredith and Niklenip escape from their binds as well as Meredith realising that Avis had joined the Bullseyes on mistake, she quickly grew to pity her rather than dislike her, especially after Avis' wing was broken by Dolor once he found her trying to help them escape, partially blaming herself for it. Upon them both being rescued from the Bullseyes' hold, Meredith's managed to bond with Avis through their shared trauma as well as their simularities in general, and though they've only known each other for a short time, Meredith does trust her and enjoys talking to her, and a part of her had hoped to see if their bond might have grown further. Avis leaving The Razorbacks after the first month she'd been with the group, however, soiled that, leaving Meredith disappointed and upset, though she can only hope the other woman has found a better life elsewhere.

Backstory

Born rather ironically as a noble amongst the other blue-bloods of the high-class district, Meredith was the rare spawn of a demon and a human, as her father, an Incubus, used magic to grant him and her mother the ability to have her at all. Her birth alone is considered a great taboo in Hell, however, which means despite her father’s high ranking in the human realm, the reason he stayed far from Hell’s grip was to escape the scrutiny he would have gotten just for returning with the knowledge that he’d produced a half-demon. Regardless, Lucien and Marjorie Owens did not go through the trouble required to even conceive a child of their blood with the intention of having a child to love and care for, they did it for the sake of having an heir, and so Meredith was born, meant to be a carbon copy of her parents not just in appearance, but in personality. But, of course, only one of those desires was met, and the other...well…

From the start, as soon as she could so much as speak, Meredith was a spitfire. Her parents were not affectionate people, not even with each other, and Meredith realised this rather quickly in her youth along with realising that it wasn’t exactly...normal once she noticed her peers getting treated much more like the children they were by their more caring parents. Instead of submitting to her parent’s desires like they wanted her to, to listen to their every word and to let them turn her into a cold husk just like they were, Meredith rebelled, commonly getting herself into trouble even before she’d reached her double-digits in age. She hated the lack of attention unless she was doing something they wanted her to do, the lack of affection, the refusal to let her even play with others in order to be a more “proper” definition of the lady they so desired her to be, so she fought back. Her parents certainly tried to quell her rebellion, to keep her contained (I’m not! Gonna go into it but they tried manipulating her), but nothing ever worked. Meredith wanted to follow her own path, to have control over her own life, but that simply was just not something her parents viewed as reasonable. It took Meredith overhearing her parents beginning to discuss the possibility of getting her a betrothed to finally realise there was no use staying where she was, knowing that her parents were only considering it so that they could find someone to “control” the daughter they weren’t able to control themselves. So, at thirteen, once everyone in the manor was asleep, Meredith, having spent little more than a few hours packing a small bag of necessities, climbed out of her room from the window and ran off into the night with little a plan of how she’d survive on the streets on her mind. She got the freedom she’d wanted, escaping the high-class district of Highwater and reaching the main village, but within a week was struggling to make it out on her own, out of food and hiding in alleys out of partial fear that her parents might have sent out people to find her. She’d cut her hair short within the week as a weak way to disguise her appearance, though there wasn’t much else she could do.

At the end of her first week away from her parents, weak from hunger, Meredith was approached by an older woman who’d spotted her creeping about the alleyways while out shopping. Hesitantly accepting her offer for shelter, knowing she had nothing else to lose, she followed the woman back to the tavern she ran on her own. The woman, Lorelei, fed the young girl while coaxing her to explain where she’d come from, and when Meredith hesitantly explained, fearing that the woman would cart her back to her parents, she was surprised when Lorelei seemed keener on helping her hide but eagerly allowed her to help. Lorelei allowed Meredith to live in the tavern, for a short time taking her in. Immensely grateful, Meredith offered to try and work for Lorelei to make it up to her, finding herself surprised when Lorelei refused, simply having done it as an act of kindness, something Meredith had been unused to considering the people she’d grown up around. For a month or so, Meredith lived in the tavern, but she felt bad, knowing well enough that she was costing the tavern-owner more money by being an extra person to care over, so she decided to find an ulterior option, which in turn led her to a street gang she’d overheard a few tavern-goers talking about. She was thirteen, after all, and knew well enough that getting a job or other lodging at her age outside of an orphanage would be much more difficult, and, besides, the idea of causing trouble enticed Meredith much more than a job like hunting or farming might have. And so, despite Lorelei’s concerns, Meredith joined the Razorbacks (known back then as The Cardozas, since back when she joined it was still just a street gang), getting a new home within that month, one she felt less guilty about inhabiting, despite the fact that she knew well enough what she’d be getting herself into by living there in the future.

It didn’t take long for Meredith to make friends, befriending two slightly older girls in particular; Adrien Ruel and the gang’s heir herself; Lucille Cardoza. They all grew close fast, especially Meredith and Lucille, the two’s similar personalities at the time melding together rather well. While Adrian was more the type to try and stop them from getting into trouble while also ending up getting herself dragged into it in the end, Meredith and Lucille were the ones to find trouble, or cause it if they so desired. It was joining The Cardozas that allowed Meredith to be the person she’d always wanted to be, causing trouble and playfully flirting with anyone she really wanted, back then not usually meaning anything from it. She had friends she could confide in, shocking considering the tendency to bottle things up she’d gotten due to how her parents had raised her, and a life she enjoyed despite the danger of it. From 13 to 17, Meredith spent four years of her life solidly happy and finally feeling as if she’d found her purpose, a place where she fit in. Things were good, or, well, they were until flirting with Lucille became less of a game later on.

See, another trait Meredith had unfortunately inherited from how her parents raised her was her difficulty in romance. For a long, long time, Meredith hadn’t been too sure if she could even feel it, not knowing for a good part of her childhood that friends could be affectionate with one another, let alone romantic partners. She never even saw her parents touch one another, after all, let alone speak to one another outside of their normally robotic tones of voice. So when the flirting Meredith always played off as a simple game, a joke of sorts, began to work, and Meredith began realising that she had feelings for her best friend, things got...a little complicated. Meredith was fifteen when she realised her feelings for her friend were more than platonic, and despite being nervous about even considering speaking up about them, she genuinely did feel as if she had some form of a chance. After all, they flirted often, spent time together, and genuinely enjoyed each other’s company, so what was preventing their relationship from possibly evolving in the future? Well...multiple reasons.

One was the fact that Meredith refused to tell anyone about how she felt. Used to bottling her feelings up, Meredith might have vented or confided in Adrian or Lucille at times when she truly wanted their advice, but she was, in reality, terrible at opening up about anything. That included romantic feelings, especially when Meredith still wasn’t sure if she’d be good at being romantic thanks to her parents. Which was funny, since, by all means, not only was she a romantically inexperienced teenager, but she was also being affectionate with her friends already, she just had no way of knowing the difference between platonic and romantic affection. The other reason was...well...Lucille having feelings as well, just not for Meredith. And when Meredith found out about this and realised the person Lucille had been talking about wasn’t her, things grew rocky fast internally, not that she let anyone who wasn’t good at reading her ever notice. First off, her feelings didn’t fade as much as she tried to make them. For years, even when they’d faded substantially, they were always still there, flickering in the recesses of her heart. It made her feel terribly guilty, especially in the beginning when she found herself unconsciously growing jealous, and to try and distract herself (probably around...late 16 or 17) she began sleeping around as a way to not have to think about it, at least for a brief period of time. So started her trend of slipping out in the evenings or nights when she could, something that only continued after things only became worse less than a year later. And once she simply grew used to that, well, her prior hopes that she wouldn’t be like her parents and could experience the romance they seemingly couldn’t or didn’t want to experience slowly, but surely dissipated. Perhaps, she’d thought, she just wasn’t meant for it. After all, who could love something that couldn’t survive without frequent intimacy, right? Something stereotyped to not be capable of non-carnal love in the first place.

After the incident that resulted in Ludwig’s death occurred and Lucille slowly, but surely began shutting everyone around her (excluding Tess) out, and then after Meredith had to watch as the person she thought she knew completely began becoming more and more violent and cruel seemingly out of nowhere, Meredith couldn’t take it much more despite her attempts to sympathise with her friend, to understand why she was acting the way she was, and, to further hide any feelings, began tailing around with Amber, Lorelei’s daughter, in the village very often if she wasn’t busy doing her duties as Caporegime, considering the two had been friends since she’d first shown up there. So much so that when one soldier in The Razorbacks playfully teased her about having feelings for the smaller girl, and though she vehemently denied it at first, hating the presumption, she realised that by forcing herself to believe she did have feelings for her that, for a while, she’d be able to distract herself, she wouldn’t have to think about her tireless efforts to try and regain Lucille’s trust or about how her friendship with Adrian as well was slowly beginning to dissipate. So, coping in possibly the worst way possible, she allowed the rumours to continue and lied to herself. This did help in one thing, though, considering it helped Meredith try to feel some form of normalcy for a few years, during the final years of being a teenager. Or, well, it did until Amber’s ex decided to ruin everything.

At nineteen years old and at a high school party Meredith had no business being at (she’d tagged along with Amber to get in), while finally beginning to feel some sort of normalcy, beginning to finally experience, truly, what “normal” teenagers got to go through (You know, by normal meaning “teenagers who don’t have to beat people up for information or commit crimes as a job), things were ruined when she had to find out that her close friend’s boyfriend attempted to assault her, and upon getting her out of the party and to one of her parental figures (Gossamer), instead of heading home, Meredith, in an absolute blind rage, tracked him down and killed him herself. A part of her at the time, insisting she had to keep up with Lucille if she wanted any hope of rekindling anything with her, tried being brutal, tried being more violent than she was usually, though at the time, still unused to such brutal displays of violence, Meredith couldn’t get past breaking Drake’s fingers one-by-one before she couldn’t stomach it anymore, simply shooting him dead to get it over with. Despite knowing he had it coming, for days she couldn’t get the pain in his eyes out of her head, couldn’t, at the time, stomach who she’d started to become, though, of course, as work in the mafia got dirtier, as time passed, that too faded once she slowly but surely began growing more and more desensitised to it all. And as for her relationship with Lucille, though she did eventually manage to regain a form of civil friendship with the other woman, to the point where they were at least talking to one another and were playful with one another once more, she had no idea at the time of the distance that still sat between them, naively assuming things were back to normal again. Or, at least, close to normal.

Meredith’s facade of having feelings for Amber faded a few months after she met a new face in The Razorbacks, a full-blooded succubus named Vi. Around 21 at the time, she found herself befriending Vi rather quickly, the two’s similar personalities melding together rather well. So, of course, she had no issue bringing Vi along with her when she’d go out to spend time with Amber, introducing them and, unknowingly at the time, bringing them together. This, of course, bit her in the ass when only months later Vi went to Meredith for advice on how to ask Amber out, and, knowing it’d make them both happy, she, of course, offered what she could (though being romantically stunted made it difficult), and almost immediately, when any soldiers would ask about it, Meredith insisted that things simply didn’t work out with a shrug. Any condolences she got for it, however, only felt like she was being jabbed at with knives, both feeling guilty she’d let faked feelings continue for as long as they had while also having to once again face her actual feelings once again. But that was all kept bottled up, as was anything else that had troubled her for the prior six years. If only she knew, at the time, how unstable those bottles were getting. At 22, Rocky was brought into The Razorbacks, and, seeing a bit of herself in the child, Meredith grew to like her rather quickly, spending time with her if given the chance. That and her bumping into a certain beast in the woods on accident one night at 23, though that’s going into her current history.

Present Day

A bit before her 23rd birthday, Meredith met a beast named Niklenip in the forest while out drinking on her own, and she inevitably decided to bring it home with her, promising to get him a decent meal as well on the way. The two quickly befriended one another, Meredith enjoying their presence despite them likely externally looking like an odd duo, and their ability to work together was proven when Meredith helped Lucille and a few other Razorbacks have their revenge on Aether's group after they filed Rocky's horns in half, with Meredith, usually not as brutal as she makes herself out to be, being willing to severely mutilate the men before letting Niklenip eat both, a display of cruelty that, at nineteen, she likely would have grown sick over expressing. Though things seemed peaceful after that ordeal, the bottled up feelings she's kept under lock and key for the past 6+ years seemed to finally begin showing themselves, even if Meredith never truly wanted them to. It took an argument, a kidnapping, and Meredith and Lucille both nearly dying to finally push the two into attempting to repair what fragments of their past friendship were left, and with Meredith finally able to really move on, things, at the very least, seem the most stable they've been for the past six years, even if she still has work to do when it comes to broken bonds with certain others.
