"It certainly hasn’t been kind to me,” she admits. This was the most vulnerable she’d been in a bit, and it’s making her skin crawl. "But thems the breaks. You either push through it or die accepting it. And I’m no bitch, so I won’t be accepting shit. Death can take me kicking and screaming before I allow myself to give in."

Meredith is a succubus and is a high-ranking(?) member of a notorious mafia; known as Venus. She is noted to be close friends with Boss Lucille Cardoza and fellow soldier Adrian Ruel. She's noted for her intimidating, rebellious personality, though has a heart of gold when it comes to the people she cares for.

Appearance

Carrying herself at 6 feet exactly, Meredith is a tall woman with a solidly muscular build that makes the woman's background in fighting and survival in general very clear. She is extremely androgynous, Meredith lives to go against traditional norms, and gender norms are very much included, considering the halfling can occasionally be mistaken for a man at times, which, being GNC, she has no issue with in the slightest. She has fair skin that's marred with scars and practically covered in tattoos, her most notable tattoos being the black fleur-de-lis on the side of her throat, the large moth spreading across her upper and mid chest, the dark, thick sleeve of thorns wrapping around her arms, and the tattoos on her hands and fingers. As a teenager and young adult she had near shoulder-length messy, wavy black hair, that she later cut into a semi-long undercut, though at around twenty-three she cut it into a messy butch cut and dyed it cerulean herself, though if she doesn't style it it commonly still gets in her eyes. Her eyes are a stormy grey-blue colour. Meredith will wear black eyeshadow and eyeliner, and on some occasions also wears black lipstick as well, though not much else is put on an already pretty face. Her brows are thick and are their natural colour still, and she has two silver studs on either side of the left one, and a slash cutting through her left brow. She notes having several other piercings as well.

As she is a demon, Meredith has a set of black horns that sprout from her temples and curl back to the back of her head, resting a few inches above her skull. They taper up in points that can occasionally spark similar to a lighter if she's angry or excited. Her teeth are naturally sharp, specifically her canines, which are also longer than average. Meredith's pupils are cat-like, and she has pointed ears, her ears tend to perk or droop down depending on her emotion, similar to how her pupils dilate or slit when looking at people she likes or dislikes, or when she's afraid or not. Her canines, both top and bottom, are longer than usual and sharper.

Meredith's attire mostly falls into the punk aesthetic, being leather jackets, chains, and leather...everything, actually, though for certain events she's also perfectly fine dressing more formally, considering her role in a mafia. She frequently wears button-ups and suit or normal jackets (typically draped over her shoulders), for example. If she isn't wearing combat boots they wear heels near constantly, usually making her around 6'3-6'5 compared to her actual height. Whether they be normal heels or heeled boots matters little to her. As she is more masculine than feminine by appearance, Meredith accentuates most of her traces of feminity to play with her androgynous flair, usually purposefully leaving button-ups half-buttoned or wearing revealing clothing. She is frequently seen with cigarettes on her person, and typically has some form of pocketknife or switchblade on her at all times in cases where she has to defend herself, and she ALWAYS has her brass knuckles on her, even if she isn't wearing them, her gauntlets if she's planning on getting into trouble or a fight.

Design Notes:
  • Silver eyebrow piercing on her left brow, several piercings on her ears (can range from rings/studs on the cartillage and lobes or industrial piercings through her ears, the sky is the limit here!). She has a few other piercings in other places but that isn't important unless you wanna ask.
  • She has a split tongue, she was not born with it, though! She had it done around when she was around seventeen.
  • He is COVERED in tattoos as mentioned prior, but his hand tattoos are both roses, and the tattoos on his fingers are singular letters spelling "HELL BENT" when he curls both hands into fists. Also has dark thorn vine sleeves on their arms, and angel wings on her back. Her black fleur-de-lis tattoo on the left side of her neck is her most defining one, though. She has more, likely on her legs and on her lower back, waist, and hips, but I haven't designed them yet.
  • She has a scar cutting across the right side of her mouth, a scar cutting from her right jaw to her cheek, and a scar cutting across her right eyebrow. She is COVERED in scars regardless of this on her body, but these can be designed freely!
  • She ALWAYS wears a gold dogtag necklace no matter what, she is never seen without it on.
  • Tends to swap between heels, platforms, or just heeled boots. It does not matter which she just likes being taller on purpose <3.
  • Like to play w/ the idea right now that she possibly has her horns pierced as well? Maybe? Maybe when she's older idk.
  • Her knuckles are likely scarred from busting them when punching things, though she occasionally wears bandages over her forearms/knuckles to prevent this a bit more.

Personality

"Actually, personally, I consider myself more of a puckish rogue, but I suppose "anarchistic whore" also works..."

Flirtatious, hedonistic, and free-spirited, Meredith grew up with the full belief that while having a family to rely on was desirable, that the world was truly dog-eat-dog, and as a result spent a good amount of her time as a teenager and young adult rather cynical, the type to only tend to help herself unless a bond was formed. While never a malicious person, they'd tend to do things solely for themself in the long run. And to be honest, being a succubus far too used to being kept around either for someone else's benefit or for a few nights of fun before she'd be inevitably pushed away would do that to a girl. Sure, Mer desperately wanted to be needed, but he'd never make this known, but this is to be expected from someone who also rarely ever admits when something is bothering them. Vulnerability is something Meredith has never been good with, she still isn't good at it, and only a handful of people are really capable of getting things out of her most of the time.

Despite growing up on the streets and working for and alongside street gangs from 13-17, Meredith has a surprisingly strong moral compass that she follows very strongly. She’s brutal in a fight, but not merciless, but back in Hell wouldn’t always make this clear for the sake of her image. She built herself a reputation back in Hell (and, by proxy, prison lol) to keep herself alive and to keep money in her pocket, and she tends to keep up that image until you warm up to her. She desires freedom above all else, being confined or forced to follow something is not ideal for them in the slightest. Despite this “image”, though, Mer tends to live life with a smirk or a grin, common to crack witty jokes in impromptu moments or to playfully flirt with anyone she speaks with just to fuck with them. Meredith fully believes in keeping her head high despite the shitty circumstances she might be living in. Better to have fun even when you barely have anything rather than mope through it all, right?

Ever since she was a kid, Meredith got into trouble for the hell of it. She was reckless, impulsive, rebellious, and bold as all hell, and these are traits that have done nothing but grow since, not even getting "punished" by God could stop that. Brave and seemingly fearless, Meredith tends to rush into and say things without thinking, which...as a result tends to make people see her as a bit stupid, which is a bit unfortunate, considering that she isn't, she just...needs to learn to think before doing. Her loyalty, persistence, and devotion to others and her job are also very highly known and valued traits of hers, and she is also not the type to lie if she can help it.

While not short-tempered, Meredith is fiercely protective of those he does manage to form bonds with, they're the most important things in his life, and putting his loved ones at risk is one of the few ways to truly set him off. Hurting them or putting them at risk is also one of the few ways to make Mer feel truly guilty as well, considering that, for someone who lived alone for most of their life, their happiness is extremely important to her. Otherwise, while eccentric and outgoing, they're rather laid-back otherwise. She is also terrible at handling romantic feelings, but we all know this at this point.

Trivia

  • She's an Aries, and when it comes to alignment she's Chaotic Good.
  • As she is a succubus, her powers begin to weaken if she goes longer than three days without sexual contact. It usually takes about a week for her powers to fully diminish.
  • She plays guitar (electric and acoustic) for a hobby! Gotta have something to do when you're not being an intimidating mafioso, right? She can also sing, but yea.
  • Considering in an AU she becomes a tattoo artist, it's fair to assume that Meredith can also draw solidly well, though this isn't a hobby that's as known as her musical hobbies considering she doesn't partake in it as much, at least not in this universe.

Skills & Abilities

Pyrokinesis
Able to set any part of her body on fire at will, Meredith is able to bend fire to her will and is also fireproof in the same right, unable to be burnt or scorched no matter what. She usually sets her hands on fire when fighting, since she can fire fireballs from her hands, though she's been noted to ignite her entire body if stuck in sticky situations. If angered to an extreme extent, it's been said she can set the area around her aflame, though this is the only circumstance where Meredith loses complete control of her abilities, for the most part.
Talented Fighter
Outside of her demonic abilities, Meredith is also an extremely skilled fighter, having trained for years as a teenager and a young adult while surviving on the streets (her time in prison also helped with this, considering she didn't have much else to do But get stronger and hone her fighting skills). She is noted to be good with brass knuckles, gauntlets, a bat, and other assorted weapons as well, occasionally preferring their use on missions rather than her powers. Getting into a fistfight with her is not advised, she favours brute force in fights and Will use it and her strength from this to fight dirty.

History

"Sometimes...you have no choice," she utters suddenly, her tone surprisingly solemn. "Sometimes life kicks you in the ass over and over until the only good option is to settle for the lesser route."

Born to two succubi, one might expect Meredith to have been raised rather normally amongst demons sharing her sin. Especially since her parents were rather well-known and well-renowned amongst demons in general, but life for Meredith was anything but that, especially considering her parents, despite their status, were...not normal succubi.

Well, no, they were normal for the most part, they just happened to hate their own sin and species so vehemently that they had an almost pathetic desire to be anything but. So they sought to act like pride demons instead. Lust demons were weak, lazy, and seen as objects, right? Pride demons, however, were powerful, they held so much control and influence, it was the kind of thing any demon would want. It wasn't their fault they had been born in the wrong circle, right? So if they simply acted the act, talked the talk, hell, even lived amongst pride demons, eventually they'd be seen as the demons they wanted to be, right? Sort of. For the most part, plenty of pride demons either saw the couple as pride demons placed in the wrong circle or simply just pathetic wannabes, but Meredith's family name typically kept the family in high regard regardless. The only thing the couple were missing was an heir, and they quickly sought to fix that problem, having Meredith as a result.

Meredith was, of course, meant to be everything her parents were, but also everything her parents weren't. A lust demon by birth, but raised amongst pride demons with the belief that that was the standard she needed to meet, that her birth sin was something she should loathe and never try to embrace, outside of...replenishing energy, of course. She was aware of her blood only with the purpose of making it clear that that person was the person she shouldn't ever want to be. And for a while, Meredith tried her best to uphold this role. It was what her parents wanted, right? It was for the best in the long run, to get them to look at her, all she needed to do was do what they wanted. Simple, right?

Yeah, no, it wasn't. Because Meredith wasn't a pride demon. She could act like one, sure, walk amongst them, sure, but she'd never have their abilities. Not only that, but witnessing the love her peers got from their parents, the love Meredith couldn't even seem to get when she did things right, both confused her and agitated her. At eleven, the kid knew well enough that she wasn't being treated the way she should be treated, she wasn't being cared for in the slightest, wasn't even sure what that was, and it royally pissed her off. So she began rebelling. For two long years, she stopped doing what her parents wanted, started embracing her blood for what it was, and did what she wanted. It was the happiest Meredith had ever felt, but as a result, seeing their child as a failure, she'd been completely cast aside, kept around, sure, but mostly left to fend for herself, if they weren't attempting to enforce their original intents from time to time, though these attempts never seemed to work, only frustrating Mer further. She was utterly alone, but Meredith was who she wanted to be, and she wasn't going to let her parents take that from her. She no longer needed their praise to keep her up top, just her own.

As they'd given up on her practically, her parent's patience had grown thin, however, and at thirteen, Meredith was promptly kicked out for good after a rather intense argument had finally snapped her parent's willingness to keep her around. She'd been kicked out before, so it read as normal to Meredith at first...until it had finally settled in that she wouldn't ever be able to return at All. She'd been on her own before, but now she was entirely on her own, and while externally she shrugged this off and accepted it, internally...she wasn't exactly handling it well. But she'd make the best of it, right? She always did.

For four years after that, Mer lived on her own and pretty much learned to survive on her own as well, whether that be with a roof over her head or not. Whatever "living" they really had stemmed from favours for other demons or from them simply causing trouble, as...Mer became a bit notorious for that. When she'd started, she had been young, too young after all, so she'd gone to small street gangs within Hell to rely on their aid. Whether in the human realm or in Hell (since Mer hopped between both pretty often for a change of pace), he tended to cause trouble wherever he went, whether it be through fights or just typical mischief. She had nothing else to do, after all. She didn’t have friends, but she had allies and people she could work with well, and that, to Mer, was all they needed. Fellow misfits. They had to cause trouble, but it was out of survival, it was life-or-death, and, hell, it was fun, too.

Running around with street gangs and doing crimes and general mischief to survive comes at a price, though, eventually, and when a botched job that was meant to send her and a few other demons she'd been living with at the time up to the big leagues resulted in the authorities ambushing them on the way back to safety, Meredith ended up the only one who didn't manage to escape their clutches, both due to sacrificing herself to make sure the others got out before her, because she’d gotten badly injured in the process, and because they never came back for her as a result. At seventeen, she was carted off to a prison within Hell, not the smaller ones she was used to, the ones she'd sit in for a day or two until she was let out with a slap on the wrist or even broken out of, a max security prison located in Wrath, and she was promptly stuck there for months, mostly because her sentence was meant to last a handful of years. Sure, being there toughened her up even more, taught her even more about survival of the fittest, but Mer had lost the freedom she'd been so desperate to have in the first place, and it left her hollow as a result.

Several months later, however, when Mer was eighteen, she was handed a chance of freedom when, out of all of the other inmates, she had been chosen to be assigned to an angel. And by assigned I mean she was really only there to be basically babysat by said angel, or possibly put on the right track by said angel, but what mattered was that Mer was getting a chance of freedom again. So even if she'd had a choice in this, she would have taken it eagerly. Working with an angel wasn't something she was particularly keen on, sure, and when she and said angel, Cecil, first met, they likely did not exactly get off on the right foot, especially considering Mer also likely refused to listen to her at first. Back then, in Mer's eyes, she didn't need anyone, especially not some angel who was being forced to basically babysit her. Right?

Regardless, with Cecil also being assigned to basically assassinate the leader of an up-and-coming mafia on Earth, Meredith went with her to assist, mostly on the assumption that if they both did this and got it done that Mer wouldn't have to go back to prison and Cecil could...get whatever Cecil would get for succeeding. At that point in time, it didn't matter. And at first, this seemed easy for Mer, she hadn't killed before but she certainly had been in her fair share of fights, considering fighting was a part of survival back where she had come from. It only got complicated when she realised that she not only recognised their target, but also had to come to the grisly realisation that their target was also a parent.

Lucille Cardoza, leader of the Venus, was someone Meredith had briefly met as a kid, back when she'd simply been causing general mayhem on Earth when she'd had nothing to do in Hell. Earth had given Mer a break from reality down in Hell, which was why she tended to traverse up to it any chance she got. Lucille had been the first person to show Meredith genuine kindness as well, she didn't expect something out of her in exchange for it, and back then, that'd been more important to Mer than anything. Their bond had been brief, considering this was only a short amount of time before Lucille had gone off to start throwing herself fully into Venus and before Mer had been taken into custody, but it had left a permanent impression on Mer, and discovering that your old friend was your assassination target...wasn't great, not to mention the fact that she now had a child, something Meredith found herself even more conflicted over. How could she rip an innocent child from their parent? That kid had the chance Mer wished she'd had, who would she be to take that from her?

So, despite her bond with Cecil having slowly grown as the months had passed, having gone from insisting she disliked her to growing to realise she genuinely appreciated her presence and to consider her a friend, Meredith knew she couldn't bring herself to be the person who caused Lucille's demise, nor did she entirely want it to happen at all, so any mission she went on, any fight that broke out, Mer purposefully missed her blows, purposefully weakened them if she had to hit someone, hell, even allowed herself to get injured to the point where they'd have to retreat, just for the sake of not having an old friend and parent's blood on her hands. The guilt she felt from this as a result, though, knowing damn well that she was just messing things up for Cecil, was insurmountable (especially considering at some point During this enemies arc she also ended up falling in love with her. kind of awkward. especially if we go w/ the idea that they became a couple during this). She didn't want to be an inconvenience for the other woman, but she felt like she had to in the same right. And, on the same hand, losing Cecil was also not something Mer was willing to risk. Eventually, God was going to give up on them. And at the time, Mer had no idea of just the severity of Cecil's situation, but she knew well enough that if God finally got tired of their shit, it would likely be back into prison for Mer, if not just back on the streets or dead in general if she were very lucky. She'd lose not just the one person she really had, the only person she could really rely on, but she'd also lose her freedom again. So it wasn't too much of a shock when Mer finally gave in and sought out the Venus for help. Who could say that once they succeeded that Heaven wouldn't just throw Mer back where she'd started anyways?

Relationships

Girlfriend

Being forced to work together and also being a demon to Cecil's angel, one would assume Meredith wouldn't like Cecil, or at least would be intent on causing the most trouble for her as she could. And at first, Meredith did admittedly assume they wouldn't work well together in the slightest, though as time passed she grew to consider Cecil as...quite the opposite, honestly. For a long, long while, Cecil was really the only person Meredith had to rely on, considering she'd never quite had someone like that in her life prior, and despite still certainly being...herself around the other woman she also grew to become protective over her as well, the concept of losing Cecil during one of their missions or due to anything else being a nightmare she wasn't willing to let become reality. The guilt she felt over screwing up said missions on purpose, though, was astronomical, especially once Meredith found out just how life-threatening their situation truly was. Falling in love wasn't what Meredith planned at all either, but Mer fell hard, mostly without realising, too, and when the two became an item, her devotion to Cecil simply grew, despite the guilt she internally felt knowing well enough that their relationship would only contribute to Cecil's later loss of her angelic status. She has other people to rely on now, Cecil isn't the only person in her life anymore, but she is still one of the few people Mer is willing to be vulnerable around, and despite not exactly wanting to admit it, likely the only person who can get her to soften up. She, again, will never admit this out loud, though.

Best Friend, former Enemy

Prior to their unfortunate but thankfully former status as enemies, Meredith had actually met Lucy as a teenager, the two striking up some sort of bond that had unfortunately faded later (for now I'm going to say Lucy throwing herself into working on the mafia and Mer never joining it was the reason). It was unfortunate, since Lucille would have been the first person Meredith had met to show her true kindness and not have some negative intent behind earning her trust, and it became even more unfortunate when, years later, the two met again, only as enemies due to Meredith being assigned to kill her and take down the mafia itself. Upon not only realising who her target was as well as finding out that her target now happened to be a mother, Meredith couldn't bring herself to go through with the plan despite knowing that not following through would likely get her killed, purposefully missing her in fights or lightening the severity of her blows. Eventually, Meredith flat-out decided she wouldn't go through with the plan at all anymore, and, perhaps either upon being captured and submitting, or simply giving up and going to Lucille herself, Meredith eagerly took the option to join the Venus rather than continuing to be enemies with it. From friends, to enemies, to best friends, upon joining the mafia she and Lucille were finally able to make something out of the small bond they'd made as teenagers, becoming close friends, and Meredith considers Lucille, along with Adrian, the closest thing to a family she has. As they've aged, they've kept their close bond intact, and, of course, like with Adrian and Cecil, Lucille is one of the few people Meredith is completely comfortable being vulnerable around. (Again some of this might be changed, this is a WIP!)

Best Friend

Meeting her upon joining the Venus, Adrian is another member of Meredith's highly valued found family, and ever since they've met, the two have been close as all hell, being notoriously known for doing stupid shit that they'd inevitably have to get themselves out of. Adrian is apart of the found family the Trio had made itself into, after all, so Meredith cares for her greatly, whilst, of course, also playfully picking on her, teasing her, or flirting with her as she does with most people. The two are comfortable being physically affectionate with one another, and Meredith seems to trust her with a lot, considering she's both vulnerable with her and willing to share any secrets with her. It's quite frankly obvious that while Meredith and Lucille are certainly allowed to fuck with Adrian, nobody else is, and Meredith will make that very clear to anyone who tries to start shit with her friend if she feels as if she has to step in. (Like w/ Lucille's, this is a WIP!)

Friend, former Enemy

In the beginning, Meredith knew Michael as an obstacle, for the most part. An enemy, yes, but an obstacle, considering he was in the way of her and Cecil's goal. This, of course, very much faded as Meredith's resolve to keep going with the plan all but crashed and burned, but until Meredith sought to get her and Cecil into Venus, he was still...an enemy of sorts. Or at least an adversary. Considering that ferret was open to her and Cecil joining, Mer's grown to very much enjoy Michael's presence. She considers them a friend, and very much enjoys their time spent together. The besties that shop at Hot Topic together stick together <3.
