Anubis

Everyone’s first impression of Anubis is that she’s an utter sweetheart. She’s got a sweet smile, a charming attitude, and a drive to help people. Who wouldn’t love this adorable baker, right? Of course, this is simply the piece of herself that Anubis likes to show towards people. She doesn’t want people to look further for fear of being vulnerable.

Many people find that Anubis is a well-intentioned idiot. A klutz, forgetful, etc. However, Anubis simply uses her perceived idiocy as a cover for her intelligence and her magic. After all, very few people know that she’s an actual witch, and not that she just uses it as an aesthetic. People have used her for her magic before, so Anubis wants to keep those types of people far, far away.

Despite all her mistrust though, Anubis does want the best for the people around her. She genuinely believes in making sure everyone has what they need to survive and thrive. Much of her life is dedicated to providing resources for others. However, that doesn’t mean she trusts people with her secrets at all, no no. She may want the best for others, but the best doesn’t include her deepest secrets

The truth is that Anubis is full of deep resentment for a lot of things in her life. Her parents’ divorce, the rejection of the other witches, people taking advantage of her powers, all these things have compounded into a seething anger that boils beneath the surface. Of course, she tries not to let it take the best of her - she knows she can be better than this..

However, Anubis has a temper that’s hard for her to keep control of. She’s best able to control it during business because customer service. However, it bubbles up from inside her at the most inopportune moments and she bites someone’s head off - figuratively, of course. Violence itself disgusts her.

Anubis is the daughter of Lady Mortimer and the ringox popstar, Annalise. While her early life was wonderful, things changed when Mortimer discovered Annalise was lying to her about a lot of things, especially her age and the fact that she had a grown son. This resulted in a really messy divorce that scarred the young Anubis heavily.

When she found out about the divorce, Anubis had a violent magical reaction that cemented herself as a witch. Unfortunately for her, the other witches of the Golden Isles wanted nothing to do with her. So, she became her own mother’s apprentice. It was kinda nice - Mortimer was a good teacher and she genuinely cared for Anubis. Anubis never blamed her for the divorce, so they were able to have a nice relationship.

Anubis’ magical talent was specifically food related magic. So, as soon as she was old enough, her mother gave her some funds and she was able to start a bakery. It was good going at first - she even advertised magical spells for sale. That proved to be the wrong decision because less than scrupulous people began to take advantage of her magic.

Eventually, Anubis was forced to close her bakery and move somewhere else with a new store name. She was able to force people away who wanted to take her magic for their own. This time around, things were much better.

Of course, Mortimer ended up falling in love with someone new. Kaia was, of course, telling the truth this time (Anubis made sure of that). However, Anubis was quite a bit awkward around Kaia. They’d started off as friends, and Anubis was 100% not expecting Kaia and her mother to fall in love. It took a lot of time, but eventually the two were able to forge a close parental bond.

Nowadays, Anubis has a life set up for herself. She doesn’t spend much time with her family - especially her new little sister Thanatos, who terrifies her greatly. Unknown to Anubis, the people around her genuinely like her. She’s a well respected member of the community, and even the other witches have begrudgingly accepted her as one of their own.
