On Homeworld, Jade was assigned to protect White Sapphire. Since they spent most of their time alone, they developed a close bond (and a bit of a crush on each other). After seeing a group of Quartzes fuse, Sapphire convinced Jade to try fusing with her.

They continued fusing in secret until war broke out on Homeworld. They used the war as an opportunity to escape, briefly fighting before hopping between various abandoned colonies and unused planets go find a place to settle.

Once news of the new Pink Diamond reached them, they began visiting Earth once in a while. They now spend most of their time fused as Pale Jade.
