Calypte was a very closed-off person, trusting no one other than himself, and himself only. With encouragement from the Knights, he was able to open himself up to others and become a more trusting person. He cares deeply for his friends and would do whatever he could to make sure they are happy. He can be selfish sometimes, since he had to be to protect himself for such a long part of his life.

History
A storm sorcerer who once hailed from the Air Elemental Plane. One day, he was pulled from his home plane into the Prime Material one, his soul split in half in the process. Half of him was turned into a lamp that would be used to grant anyone’s desires, if they possessed it. He had been roaming the world aimlessly for a thousand years or so before becoming a Knight, frequently getting caught and used by rather undesirable folks. He had come across one person, Roxanne, who didn’t treat him like an object to be used, but she did not stay in his life for very long. Becoming the Capricorn Knight of the Zodiac was one of the first times he was seen as a person. He did eventually develop feelings for his fellow knights Galahad and Grey, though it has become a bit complicated. He grew close to all of his fellow knights, and he was heartbroken when they started to pass away. Not wanting to watch all of his friends die, Calypte packed up his belongings and left them all behind.
His life returned to what it was before, after he retired from being a Knight. He continued to roam around the world for a few more centuries before he met Anna, the woman he would eventually marry. The two settled down in a small desert town, Cecilia, and had two genasi children, Kestra and R.J. He was able to live peacefully in one place for a few years, hiding his oil lamp away near his home. This did not last, and his lamp was dug up by a servant of the goddess Tiamat. Under her control, Calypte was forced to destroy his home to cut all personal ties he had, killing Anna in the process. His two daughters survived, unbeknownst to either him or each other.
Calypte continued to serve the dragon goddess for many years, until Kestra, along with her friends, found him. He was forced to fight his daughter, but she was able to survive all of his encounters. One of her friends, August, was able to put a stop to it all, trapping Calypte underground. He doesn't remember much of this time, since he nearly died while he was trapped. Eventually, he and his lamp were rediscovered by Kestra and Nik, and he was brought back to health with the help of his old friend, Fennec.
After the fiasco with Tiamat, Calypte decided that he was done with all the action. Once the Sanctuary was established, he moved there to live with Kestra, Nik, Marius, and his grandkids. Now his days are spent helping care for the creatures his daughter brings in and telling stories of his adventures to all of the children that come to him. He has also begun to reach out to some of his old friends, hoping to reconnect with them all.
Trivia
- Part of Calypte's soul is trapped inside the oil lamp he always has with him. No matter what he does, he will always be pulled back into it at the end of the day to rest. This makes him vulnerable, so he is almost never seen without the lamp on his person. He once tried to hide it somewhere and live normally, but he won't make that mistake again...
- He constantly walks around disguised as an elf, in order to keep himself safe. His regular form is 10' tall and a blueish-green. His hair becomes more wispy and airy too.
- Calypte had never seen a child before he came to the Prime Material plane, since air elementals are never really children in the traditional sense. He didn't understand them at all when he saw them, and he found them weak and a hazard. His view changed when he came face-to-face with Galahad's daughter, Lynette. Since that point, he has grown to love children and it has becomes normal for him to become a guardian for any that he comes across, whether or not they need it.
- Calypte has a serious drinking problem that many have tried to break. He tries to stay sober, but being able to make wine out of thin air doesn't make it last long.
Relationships
Galahad [ past lover ]
Galahad was one of the first Knights Calypte was able to open up to and befriend. They could often be found deep in the library, doing research on Calypte's lamp and how to free him from it. What started out as friendship grew into something more, as the two developed feelings for the other. Galahad eventually made the first move, and the two were happy together, until they were killed by Jormungandr. Once Calypte came back to life and regained his memories, he mourned the loss of his love and was ready to move on. That changed, though, when he had the chance to bring him back. He did, and the two lived happily together until the end of Galahad's life. Calypte has never forgotten him and the kind of life he could live if he opens himself up to others.
Lynette [ daughter ]
Lynette is Galahad's daughter, and the first on Calypte's long list of children (adopted and otherwise). He first met her when Galahad joined the Knights. She was barely more than an infant, and he immediately took an interest in her. He had never seen a child before, and to say his interactions with her were amusing would be an understatement. He learned though, and the two were very close for years. Things took a turn for the worst when Calypte died and Lynette was kidnapped by Hela's forces. Calypte did everything he could to try and find her after he regained his memories, but their relationship was ruined by that point. It got better slowly, and the two were able to make up for lost time.
Nyneve [ friend ]
Calypte is not one to worship gods, but he isn't against befriending them. After Nyneve revealed her identity to the Knights, Calypte did what he could to befriend her and keep her safe from the incoming threat of Hela's armies. He was torn up when she disappeared with her siblings, and he continues to think of her long after his connection to the Zodiac fades away. Even if he never gets a response from her, he hopes she finds comfort in his frequent prayers.
Anna [ past lover ]
Calypte is not one to fall in love easily, yet Anna made herself an exception. He first met her in a tavern while he was on the run, long after his time as a Knight. She drank him under the table and then defended him from some rowdier folks. He immediately took a liking to her and the two decided to travel together. The two eventually fell in love and settled down, something Calypte hadn't done in centuries. Anna was able to remind him of the better days he had, and there isn't a day that passes by that he doesn't miss her. He regrets every mistake he made that led to him causing her death, and he's done everything he can to make sure something like that doesn't happen again.
Kestra [ daughter ]
Calypte deeply cares for Kestra and wants the best for her. She was the first of his bloodrelated children that he had with Anna, and it was blatently apparent when she was a kid. Calypte was incredibly nervous about her displaying signs of being a genasi, but he eventually relaxed when she didn't show any. He regrets what happened to her when she was a child, and he does whatever he can to make up for it.
R.J. [ daughter ]
The second of his children that he had with Anna. Calypte loves her just as much as he does his other children, but there are days that she gets on his nerves. She often antagonizes him and irritates him, due to him ruining her childhood and dividing their family. Calypte can't blame her at all for it, since she is right to hate him. He just hopes that one day she'll forgive him and finally enjoy the peace and quiet of the Sanctuary with her sister.
Puff, Huff, Buff, and Tuff [ grandchildren ]
Calypte loves each and every one of his dragon grandkids. The eldest of the bunch, Puff and Huff, were only tiny children when they were taken captive by Tiamat, and Calypte did everything in his power to offer them some kind of comfort during that time. Once free, he spent much of his time coddling them and taking care of the kids while his daughter was busy building the Sanctuary with her friends and girlfriend.
Budgie [ grandson ]
Calypte is incredibly protective of him, much like the other children. He acts as a mentor for Budgie and teaches him how to control some of the powers he's been given. Since his disappearance, Calypte has been worried sick.
Volta [ best friend/mortal enemy ]
Calypte's feelings toward Volta are a disaster that no one should dare try to understand. He hates him, and yet he cares for Volta's wellbeing and sees him as possibly his best friend. Volta is one of the only people Calypte knows that fully understands what being an Elemental trapped on the Prime Material plane is like, and they have been able to talk amicably sometimes. Then Volta insults him and the hate comes right back. It is a weird relationship built on sarcasm, insults, and endless bottles of wine.
Jacobin [ son ]
Ever since Jacobin was created, Calypte has never know peace. He loves him, yes, but the nonsense Jacobin pulls ages Calypte by centuries.
Fennec [ long-time friend ]
Fennec is one of Calypte's best friends. Calypte watched him grow during his time as a Knight and he feels incredibly proud of him and how far he's come. After disappearing for 500 years and being freed from Tiamat's control, Calypte has been working hard to rebuild the friendship they had and catch up on the time they've lost. Whenever the Nomads visit Arvia, Calypte is almost always out there to greet them.
Katalina [ best friend ]
Katalina is one of Calypte's best friends. They have gone through a lot together as Knights of the Zodiac, and he trusts her a lot because of it. While he was afraid of what she would do when she found him again after he disappeared for 500 years, he now knows better than to keep his location a secret from her. Calypte is not too afraid to not pull a prank or two on her though.
Grey [ complicated... ]
Grey was one of the other Knights that Calypte got incredibly close to. Calypte cared, and still does, for the man, and he was not aware of the wyrm's feelings for him. Their relationship soured a bit when Grey confessed to Calypte, due to the djinn having already committed to Galahad. After the two died and came back, Calypte was drawn toward the other man during their journey, and he grew to love Grey deeply. With the return of their memories and their old feelings, Calypte opened himself up to a closer relationship with Grey. It did not last long, however, with the return of Galahad, and the two split on awkward terms. Calypte never stopped loving Grey, and he still waits for the day that he'll come back to him.
Roma [ adopted child ]
Roma was the youngest of the Knights and the second child that Calypte took under his wing. He doesn't care that the kid was a vampire, especially since it didn't affect him in any way. He looked after Roma during their time as knights, and when Jormungandr attacked, Calypte tried his hardest to try and get Roma out to safety. When his plan failed, he made sure to stay together long enough so that Roma wasn't alone in the end. After coming back to life, Calypte continued to act as the kid's guardian alongside Grey, even after regaining his memories.
Ormand [ friend ]
Calypte first met Ormand when he was a knight. He saw how the rumors of Ormand's origins were hurting the boy, and he took it upon himself to try to add some positivity into his life. He doesn't blame him for becoming Jormungandr, and he is proud of him when he finally takes control of the snake. When Ormand and Roma officially got together, Calypte was happy that he was able to find happiness.
Tilly [ friend ]
Tilly was another Knight and friend. They would often join Calypte whenever he brought out the wine. He cared about their well-being and often offered his best attempts at counsil for the satyr whenever they were in need of it. Calypte did get furious at Tilly once, when he found out about them fooling around with Grey, but he was relatively quick to forgive them.
