Profile

Henri was the young upstart hero of a little convoy of scrappers and scavengers trying to eke out an existence in the post-apocalyptic Canadian wasteland. He lost his arm, ear, and a good portion of skin to a war drone as a part of his teen hero days - he's in his early thirties now, but Henri Lloyd is still a household name. While never officially appointed head of his current scrapper band, the entirety of Camp looks to him for leadership and he's come to accept the role.

It's thanks to Henri's childhood crew that the area has begun to manage the local drone problem by finally working out how to kill them for good. He and his fellows dismembered many in their spare time and fought off what would have been a catastrophic raid on a crucial nearby settlement, earning himself his fame with his outlandish rifle and quick thinking. The scrappers he grew up with slowly dispersed afterwards - several died, others moved on - but many new personalities gravitated towards Henri and those that remained, and the crew eventually put down roots on a scenic little plot now lovingly called Camp.

Nowadays he does a little bit of everything. Albeit the de-facto leader of Camp, Henri isn't the person to delegate tasks and make every decision; the place runs on mutual understanding of responsibility and respect. He takes charge during critical moments and often represents the crew when needed, but considers himself simply another member most of the time, joining scavenging patrols, hunting, keeping watch, and horsing around off-duty. In the meantime he's picked up two apprentices, Coyote and Teagan, whom he loves dearly even though he would rather die than admit he's effectively their father. All of Camp teases him for his parental tendencies and desperate need to adopt sad little castaways and they'll never let him live down bringing back more in the form of lost teenage airplanes. It's not his fault, he couldn't stand to leave them to the wilds on their own, hi-techs or not. besides it's free sons

Henri is a very cheerful, warm guy and knows everyone in Camp personally. He's approachable and dependable even though he tends to wear himself thin trying to help with every single possible task. He's a bit of a mischievous scamp underneath, really, but thankfully he burns off the energy by keeping himself busy. It's crucial to him that he can be there for others; community is everything to him and his friends are his family.

World Context

The world ended around 300 years ago, give or take, depending on where you'd like to calculate the end of the end to be. Civilization slowly crumbled under a brutal barrage of seemingly every possible apocalypse (natural disasters, polluted resources, world war,) over the course of fifty-some-odd years and now it's a lawless wasteland like the good ole days. No human culture is truly back on its feet, but the wasteland is coming back to life: nature is rebounding en force and many established settlements and factions are doing well for themselves. Plenty of people still roam as survivor crews living off the land, but overall, the memory of the apocalypse itself has passed and a new norm has settled in.

This isn't to say everything is perfect - remnants of war efforts and catastrophic pollution have still left their calling cards, among other things. Rogue robots wander and kill at their leisure and the sky is blanketed in thick, permanent cloud cover. Assholes run rampant in the form of bandits, militia, and dystopian cityfolk continuing the old ways - it's still called "the wasteland" for a reason. But the world and humanity are healing, slowly but surely.

The primary narrative of Ash & Dust happens out in the wasteland with a misfit band of "scrappers:" folks that scavenge technological scrap and will hunt robots, drones, and even cyborgs to break them down for parts. They're not self-sustaining and trade their catches with local settlements on the regular. Like any rogueish wasteland bands, they value their freedom and members often come and go as they please while finding their calling.

Miscellany
> Loves singing, especially campfire songs, though he's only okay at it. He knows how to play the guitar a little bit too
> Grew up with one parent who died in the drone raid; never met the other. Not that torn up about it, he wasn't ever close to them specifically over the other scrappers in the squad

Abilities (?)
> Only has haptic feedback in his fingertips on his cyber arm, the rest is not made for it
> His cybernetic ear is also connected to a less-visible implant in his other ear, and can activate a noise-canceling function when he's shooting guns and whatnot
> His ear and arm can both come off and he intentionally takes breaks to avoid injury. The arm has a harness that distributes weight more evenly across his shoulders too

Henri is a very cheerful and warm person! He's a bit rough-and-tumble but it comes with living in the wasteland. He still has quite a bit of childish spirit and intentionally spends time with some of the younger inhabitants of the junkertown. He can be very intense when under pressure and is very good at being storybook Cool™
