Ming and Kan met when Kan visited Ming's college as a guest lecture on astronomy. Ming had stayed back after the lecture to discuss the topic in depth with Kan and the two exchanged contact. Kan was pleasantly surprised at Ming's interest and enthusiasm for science, and was further impressed when Ming was able to keep up with the conversation. The two discussed the topic through emails and eventually Kan invited Ming to the planetarium, then to star gaze afterwards so they can study and discuss the celestial bodies in rotation.
Kan and Ming's relationship started when Kan found out that Ming had feelings for his roommate. Kan tried to be a good friend since they don't make friends too often, by trying to play cupid. They encouraged Ming to be more forward with his feelings. Ming was reluctant to do so but decided to humor Kan and so they two spent more time together as Kan tried to coach Ming on how to win Koutaro over. One thing led to another and they both ended up falling for each other instead. Eventually, due to frustration, Kan ended up accidentally confessing and the two decided to start dating.
Currently, Ming and Kan are in a happy, healthy relationship. They had a few road bumps when they first started their relationship since they were each other's first lovers. Their relationship is a learning process for both of them, but Kan is always happy to learn new things with Ming by their side. The two are still as nerdy as ever and others find it difficult to keep up with their pace but Kan doesn't care. Their favorite date activities are star gazing, solving puzzles together, or watching documentaries at home. Although Kan is not an active person and is unfortunately not very good at snow sports, they're decent at ice skating, and so the two enjoy ice skating together during the winter.
Ming finds Kan to be absolutely fascinating, both from an emotional standpoint and an academic one. Most people disregard the chance to familiarize themselves with Kan, feeling off-putted by Kan's initial lack of empathy, but Ming found out that past that first impression, Kan is a warm and affectionate person. It's not a side of Kan that most people could see, and because of this, Ming is slightly posessive. Kan's constant love and affection never fails to make Ming smile.
Kan considers themself to be pragmatic and thus they don't believe in perfection. That is... until they met Ming. Kan knows that Ming has flaws as all people do, but even Ming's flaws are perfect. Kan doesn't understand how other people are not falling head over heels for Ming and came to the conclusion that it's because no everyone is as smart as they are to be able to recognize what an amazing person Ming is. Or maybe, Kan muses, it's because Ming is made perfectly just for Kan.
