Corvan Gazer is a freelance gun for hire, active during the Rise of the Empire.

Personality

  • Chaotic Good
  • Doesn't really care where he's from, just where he's going.
  • Something of an adrenaline junkie.
  • Crashes hard.  Can stay up for twenty-four hours but will sleep for a   solid twelve afterwards and nothing short of a thermal detonator is   going to get him to budge.
  • Is fine with initiating physical contact (like a punch to the arm or side hug), but is uncomfortable with others initiating it with him;  doesn’t know how to react and will get anxious and/or freeze up.  This  is also due to his upbringing as this form of affection was used to  reward or punish him for his behavior as a training technique.
  • Has something of a rep for overkill when it comes to obtaining people for third parties; will take contracts that want the being "dead or alive" since it means he can use extreme force if they put up a fight.
  • Ever since Kit was kidnapped by slavers (and subsequently rescued by Corvan), he's had a loathing for slaver institutions and will not hesitate to intervene in a situation where they are shipping beings around.
  • Has some trust/abandonment issues from his parents, and sort of sees himself as expendable for whatever cause he gets into, which is why he goes so hardcore with things.  Expects people to leave him and/or tell him to leave; if something is going well, he’ll suspect that the relationship (be it filial, platonic, or romantic) is too good to be true and will end soon.
  • Extremely wary about getting involved in any sort of organization (he's not associated with the Bounty Hunter's Guild so he doesn't get all the benefits it has to offer) because of being raised in Death Watch and being more or less brainwashed by them.  He doesn't want that happening again so he's hesitant about blindly joining up with any sort of association.

History

Corvan had been initially taken in by Death Watch (after they killed his biological parents during a raid) and he had no  clue that they were a bunch of very malevolent people, but he kept on exhibiting his  carefree personality they tried to drill out of him as he grew up.  When he got separated from his clan at fifteen [29 BBY], they have no intention of bringing him back because he was seen  as a lost cause.  The main reason he got booted was that he started questioning Death Watch  doctrine.  Like, really digging into it and making the clan a tad bit  unnerved since some of their younger kids were starting to follow  Corvan’s example.  They had a choice of either culling him or  abandoning him and they chose the latter.

Happened across a city on Thyferra unknowingly being tricked by Separatists who were selling arms to the local swoop bike gangs and criminals only to leap in when the locals were being attacked by said criminals to be seen as heroes.  Decided to help out by harassing the Seps.  Kidnapped the head Sep from his estate and trussed him up and put him on display as an "ornament" in the city square.  Unfortunately, the people saw Corvan as something of a nuisance as their benevolent Jurran Breen cleverly hid his dirty dealings from the public eye.  He was run out of the city and forced to shelter in a small community after Breen put a rather large and lucrative bounty on his head.

Settled down and was fine with this existence in the little jungle town until the Seps came in full force and pretty much razed the community to the ground for "harboring a fugitive", forcing the people to flee to somewhere new, but not after putting up a fight.  Those who survived managed to smuggle themselves offworld or move to cities further away, though Corvan decided it was best he get offworld to avoid a repeat.

When the Empire showed up, he knew he wouldn't like them but  really  enjoyed messing with them so that's what he does for a living.   Getting  paid by the people he helps is sort of a bonus since he more likes to  annoy the crap out of the Imperials.

Corvan drifted off on his own after a few months and met a zabrak/mirialan boy named Kit he decided to adopt...before he ran into mercenary Tronn Strak who decided Corvan did not have the responsibility necessary to look after a kid and adopted both of them.  Forcibly.

Has a constant rivalry with Breen--appointed a Grand General when the Empire came into power and he offered them land and resources in exchange for power--ever since the "ornament incident" as he wants the people to see him for what he is, a conniving bully.

When Corvan eventually finds his family again, he discovers that he was essentially cast out and is for once in his laid back life devastated.  He later finds out they were marginally responsible with imprisoning his son on a Zygerrian Slaver ship and after that debacle, hunts them down to threaten them to stay away from his family.  This results in a skirmish in which he is forced to kill his adoptive father or be killed.

Abilities

Skillset

  • Has learned Death Watch, Nagai, and Kage fighting techniques.
  • Excellent with handling a knife and close combat.

Unique Abilities

  • He has the potential to be extremely deadly and  focused if pushed, but  for the most part is very laid back unless the right Crazy Buttons are  pushed.  Then you best run.
  • Psychometric Abilities: Mental technique of picking up impressions and  traces of information  about the object touched and the events that have  surrounded it.
  • Hard to kill...?

Relationships

Death Watch

Adopted by Velean and Garik Sharn.

Post-Death Watch

Adopts Kit around 19 BBY, and is subsequently adopted by Tronn and Zea Strak.  Tronn and Zea are sort of like his new parents/grandparents; they’re doing what they can to help him work through being abandoned by his own adoptive Death Watch family and developing better habits.

Trivia

  • Grew attached to one of the girls who was part of the community he hid out in, which is part of the reason why he stuck around.  She, however, quickly grew more worried about his devil-may-care ways and broke things off a month in.  His ex got married and Corvan was sort of the weird ex-boyfriend who adopted himself into her family, acting as the unofficial uncle to the children and annoying his ex's husband.  He just showed up at their house whenever he liked and could most likely be found raiding the pantry due to being constantly broke.
  • Influenced some of the people in the town to adopt Mandalorian ways and a few went "full native" with delving into that culture and taking on the garb too.
  • Tractor-beamed a squad of stormtroopers to a speeder and dragged them around a town once before dropping them off at the dump.
  • Only has one kidney after accidentally impaling himself on the other in a speeder bike crash.
  • Gets by pretty much on dumb luck.
  • Loves the rain.  The smell of it, sound of it, playing sports out in the mud during a storm and getting absolutely filthy.
  • Crash landed on Thyferra and decided to stay there. The OTHER reason why he didn’t leave since his ship was a hunk of scrap metal in the end.
  • Always wanted to be a bounty hunter.  Tried it out when he was of age, got bored a year into it and quit.  Being a constant thorn in the side to the Empire is far more fun.
  • Eventually takes on odd jobs that require use of his skills; hired gun, bodyguard, operative (with obtaining people/information for third parties), mercenary for hire
  • Teams up with bounty hunters on occasion, but he's something of a Wild Card so the alliances don't last very long.  He has found himself stranded on a planet or two after botching things really bad after the rest of the team leaves him behind.
  • Tries too hard when he flirts.  Flirts with women who he knows he doesn't have a chance with since he knows that it won't lead to anything and is only harmless fun.
  • Not the best shot.  Is sloppy when it comes to kills, though that can be attributed to his upbringing since he was encouraged to be extreme when killing someone.  Subsequently, anyone he shoots usually is riddled with four to five burn holes.  Corvan argues he still gets the job done.
  • Assembles and takes apart weapons when he needs to keep his mind calm; does this often when he can't sleep since it keeps him occupied.
  • Has more than likely used animal painkillers/medication to treat injuries because it's just cheaper.  Has had some...interesting results.
  • Constantly getting himself injured. As soon as he’s healed up he’s bound to have a half dozen more bumps and bruises.
  • His Blue Heart of Fire he embedded in his beskar was from his biological  family, worn as a pendant on a necklace when he was found by Death  Watch.
  • Born 44 BBY: Stark/Hyperspace War, Mandalorian Civil War
  • Character Arc Notes: Has to stop running away from relationships, treating them like they’re not going to last which stems from his abandonment issues.  Learn to trust people because the Sharns really twisted his trust.  Get out of his self-harm mindset; he’s fine with throwing himself into danger even considering death as an outcome, but that changes when he has people who care about him and his welfare and would be pretty upset if he died (ex. takes "I'd die for you" literally).
