Rei is someone who's very charisamtic and does his best to appear likeable to strangers, but his personality isn't quite what people expect when they get to know him. He's sly and shrewd and always a little bit cynical when people do nice things (believing they do it to gain something). Because of this he doesn't have a lot of friends as he, unintentionally, tends to push them away. Rei loves to tease people and he's always a little bit mischevious.
Despite his personality Rei does want to be liked and he's not a bad person. He has a real passion for music and wants his songs to be shared all around with others, though he's always terrified that they'll be laughed at or thrown to the side. The cynical part of himself is there mostly to protect himself from getting hurt as he knows the feeling of being betrayed and abandoned well.
Rei grew up in a relatively normal family however his parents, due to their heavy work lives, were rarely around. He was never upset with them for not being around, since he knew they were just trying to provide a better life for him, but deep down he always wished that they would be around more often. From a very young age Rei got into music and fell in love with all aspects of it; writing, singing, dancing, instrument playing, anything that was involved with music. Although he often felt he couldn't talk to his parents about things, not wanting to bother them, he still felt like he could get things off his chest by simply writing and singing.
Although considered extremely talented with music Rei was still an overall average kid. All of that 'talent' came from passion and hard work, and he was never shy to share it with others. In fact everytime he finished a new song the first thing he wanted to do was share it with his closest friend at the time. His friend was always just as enthusiastic about Rei's music, and he couldn't have been happier about it. It wouldn't be long until Rei discovered the reason why his friend was so interested though. It turned out, unbeknownst to him, his friend had been stealing Rei's music and using it to further his own popularity. His friend was the type of person who wanted to be famous, but never wanted to put in the effort to actually achieve that. The betrayal left Rei more hurt and destroyed than he'd ever been before, and eventually his personality changed to becoming more cynical. Rei stopped sharing his music so readily and, slowly, his other friends started to drift away disliking the person he'd become.
Although Rei had told himself he would never write or perform music for others again the lure was too much for him to resist. Even though he'd been hurt, and the pain had caused him to enter a long hiatus because of writers block, he still wanted to pursue music. It wasn't a scouting agent who approached Rei, but him who voluntarily auditioned to become an idol. He claimed it was 'just for fun' and nothing serious, but deep down Rei thought it might be his last chance to regain that passion. Eventually he would be accepted into a group with four others and, very slowly, he'd start to learn what friendship meant again.
One of Rei's friends and group mates. He would never admit it, but he admires Hibiki's singing and it's helped him feel inspired to make music again. Although he does at times try to tease Hibiki it rarely works, so he often just settles with being friends.
One of Rei's friends and group mates. Junpei is extremely easy to tease and annoy, so Rei has a lot of fun messing with him (which often causes them to buttheads). He does think it's funny how Junpei tries so hard to be something he's not, but wouldn't ever admit he prefers Junpei's actual personality.

Rei believed Kyo would fail as an idol very quickly because of his severe stage fright and thought it better for him to give up. It took time, and for Kyo to prove himself, for Rei to admit he was wrong. The two get along well now and Kyo has taken an interest in his music, though Rei still finds it hard to share openly.
At first Rei was extremely suspicious and weary around Yuuma. His desire to help with writing music brought up too many bad memories and, as a result, he began to project onto and dislike Yuuma. He couldn't stand his apparent laziness as well. Overtime though as the two grew to understand each other he begrudgingly accepted that Yuuma was good at writing music and could help... but it took even longer for him to admit it outright.
The manager to Rei and his group. Rei often treats Mayu different from the others because of her position even though she's constantly telling him to treat her like a friend. Because she expresses genuine interest and love for his songs Rei feels she's irreplaceable as a manager.
Rei and Touya met around middle school. At the time Touya scolded Rei for giving up music so easily, but Rei was too upset to listen to him and became defensive. The annoyance of that never left him, though, and eventually helped him to get back into music even if it was through spite. They eventually met again years later as fellow idols, though they tend to get into arguments easily despite their mutual respect for the other.
