Cass Newmaker

Cassandra grew up kind, sweet and curious about new things. She inhaled knowledge and because of that, she was always top in her class. Was a people pleaser to a fault.

That all changed once she was taken to the facility. Hateful to those outside of her party. Vengeful, willing to lash out at those who even slightly wrong her. Becomes broken and withdrawn the more she’s entrapped in her powers due to holding on to the smallest chunk of whatever was leftover of DN 5532.

Growing up she always knew something was off with her. Whenever she was really upset (always in private, she never showed negative emotions or weakness in front of her parents or other authority figures), things would move and she'd get a nosebleed. At night she would practice so that her powers didn't get triggered by her emotions and able to call on them at will instead of random.

When she was younger Cassandra enjoyed reading mystery novels above her level and trying to solve the other children's issues.

She was always doing her best to please her parents, when she graduated 8th grade with honours in all subjects her parents pushed her to choose university classes in sciences and maths. In her downtime, Cassandra joined the writing club and school paper. This solidified her desire to be an investigative journalist after post-secondary.

This is what caused the fight with her parents. They wanted her to become a doctor, and due to her people-pleasing nature, she went along with it. But now that she's an adult, she finally decided to put her foot down.

All her bottled-up negative feelings came out in an explosive burst of psychic powers. The blast that resulted ended up throwing back all the furniture, and her parents. Her mother ended up catching herself before anything bad happened to her, but her father ended up falling and smashing his head. (He ended up fine, the wound just required a few stitches) This sealed her fate, and Cass's mother called the local facility whose number appeared on her fridge at some point.

In the facility, she was poked and prodded and pushed to her limits. Cass's resentment grew to cover all the non-superpowered humans. Yet, when Kleio comes to offer her a chance at freedom and revenge, she’s hesitant to take it. He's able to manipulate her by showing all the embarrassing and harmful tests forced on her. This was her breaking point; Cass was willing to destroy the facility and those inside at half of her full power.

Once in Rosebrook, Kleio shoved her away into a dark corner; encouraging Cass to practice her powers to see what she could do at her strongest. When needed it was to steal files about the other dimensions' Cassandras; which is how she met Violet Rose. She had come to collect DN-8537's files when Vio sensed her presence and came to talk to her. He attempted to get her to see reason, as he had also gone down a dark path and regretted it since. But under Kleio's manipulation, she didn't believe him and left.

One day, she had enough of Kleio's manipulation and broke finally. Unbeknownst to her, Kleio had gotten her to kill the other Cassandras (save for Cassandra of course) which he smugly let her know at their final spat. This broke her even more. Pushed to her breaking point, the power imbalance created a black hole-like effect that blew out the entire dimension before sucking it back into Cassandra. Everything was destroyed, except for Kleio and Zoe, who were watching from the dimension's entrance, and Pink Rose, who was away at a Garden meeting.

What remained was more or less a black void, with Cass at its center holding it together. If she tried to leave, she would’ve been knocked out due to the amount of power and awareness needed to keep it going. That doesn’t mean she couldn’t use any powers. She’s able to separate herself from the part of her consciousness that’s holding on to go off to create spectres of herself. She uses these to watch Violet Rose and DN 8536 Cassandra. who she still resents for being "normal". Cassandra and Vio were able to find and rescue her, taking her out of the void that remained of DN 5532.

Cass gave her powers over to Cassandra, finally releasing the spirits she absorbed. She planned on this being a grand gesture of redemption before death, but fate had other plans.

She lived, but escaping spirits tore out her lower back and crippled her. She was rushed to the hospital where she awoke after passing out. Finding out she lived pissed her off, but she would come to appreciate the second chance.

Cass became friends with Goldie since the young Rose was always eager to hang out with her. She cares for her deep inside as much as she pretends she doesn't.
