Shizuki was born in-between two worlds. Between her first generation parents who were doing their best to assimilate and her staunch traditionalist grandparents living in Japan however when she was born she didn't see this really. Instead she was just a regular girl living a fairly average life with nothing she could consider a real problem until the day her older sister ran away and was disowned. Shizuki remembered the chaos that followed Asami's leave, the reasons why, and her parents response. Almost instantly Shizuki was pulled from an all girl's Catholic school she was going to and instead sent over to live with her parents. Only coming back to the states in the summer to continue her education here. The idea of her parents being to keep her so busy that she never even thinks about anyone else let alone falling for another girl. For awhile it worked, Shizuki's constant moves and focus on school work put her in a state where she simply coasted from day to day. Almost rendered a completely unfeeling mess. At least until one faithful day.
Shizuki found herself accompanying her grandparents to Indonesia so that her grandfather could get some business done. A request that came from her parents orders. It was a massively windy day while Shizuki stood outside a local shop while her grandparents were buying something from inside. Almost constantly Shizuki found herself getting hit in the face over and over by her hair as it became whipped up by the wind. She didn't notice when a girl a few months younger than her came up to her, pulled a barrette she was using to keep her hijab pinned, and offered it up to Shizuki. The two parted shortly after, not saying a word, but soon enough they met again, and again, and again. Eventually Shizuki managed to find out the girl's name was Vardah and shortly after they entered communications with each other; learning to understand each other.
The two girls were best friends until one faithful evening where Vardah was visiting Shizuki in Japan. After that night the two were joined at the hip and only a few days later called each other girlfriends and began to date in secret. As the years went on the continued their relationship their connection deepening until Shizuki suggested that Vardah come live with her after she moved out of her parent's place. A idea that Vardah quickly jumped on but pointed an issue out in. Namely that she couldn't stay in America for all manner of reasons. An idea entered the other girl's mind and before Shizuki could object the love of her life joined the US military as a path to citizenship. Those four years were some of the most stressed Shizuki had been since she was a child and when she found out when Vardah was injured on deployment she instantly went into a state of panic. Vardah survived and soon enough left the Marines after serving her four year contract. Now, with her girlfriend working to support them both and Shizuki working towards a degree in engineering? The two have settled down and made a life for themselves. Finally free to be together and not have to worry about anyone else for the first time in a long time.
