Portgate

Portgate is a city located in southern California, found mostly in the western corner of San Diego county, with small portions in nearby Orange county, that was founded in 1843 as both a way-stop point and mining town between San Diego and Los Angeles. While it was initially small mining town with a minuscule population to reflect that? It had a major boom in population during the mid 20th century due to its proximity to the newly established military base at Camp Pendleton. However, it is still small compared to some towns and cities in the area, with a population of 67,405 residents as of the 2010 census with an estimated 69,413 residents in 2014. While the city's economy was initially focused on the mining of silver from local mines, and some trade, it was since evolved to have its economy tied to a mixture of a minor tourism industry, with people coming in to enjoy the relatively small town feel, real-estate interest with some developers looking to buy surrounding land and/or buy the property of the residents in the hopes of turning it into an upscale tourist town for the rich, as well as both its ties to Camp Pendleton bringing in both people and businesses to support them, and even some mining due to the fact that, while the mines have long since run out of metals like silver or gold, a few mines are surprisingly rich in graphite.
