The first time he was seen, he was sleeping on the desk but was quickly awoken by a head pat, apologizing the moment he woke. Rika, thinking of the possibilities on who will be the best for the mission, says Romano would be the best. He shows some kind of anxiety and self-esteem problems. He panics when Ko begins questioning him and brings up possible death, before he could say that he'd rather die himself than let his members being the one to do so, Aki takes a hold of his hand to calm down. Once he calms down, Rika continues her talk. When night comes, it is shown that he is overworking himself late at night, only to be greeted by Alderardo, one of his members. They have a brief chat before Tsuyobi comes in and their presence calms down Romano.
Training Arc
Knowing himself, he becomes a bit scared of the tutor, thinking he'd fail immediately and hiding in his research room but he was quickly pulled out of it to join training. His anxiety spikes up again when he talks to Akira, but later on, he calms down. As the story progresses, it shows Romano can barely finish the training routine, and tries to skip to it again. However, Akira notices he wasn't there an enters the training room. Romano, displeased with himself, tells Akira that he can't be good as the rest and that Akira should just give up on him.
Akira rejects this idea, even telling Romano that he has actually been watching him train alone. This reveals that Romano is actually afraid of people's views on him more than lack of talent, and Akira decides to tutor him privately. By the end, he thanks Akira, even calling him dad. After the next days, Alderardo accuses Akira for making Romano overwork, but Romano tells him the truth- making Al relax. At the end of the arc, Romano is shown crying when Akira is about to leave.
First Mission Arc
Romano and Al is found inside the research room, but Alderardo suddenly brings up that he found something disturbing but he could only tell Romano now. After hearing a high pitch sound from the computer, they decide to report their findings to Rika. Once Rika hears about this, she asks Romano if he is okay with taking the mission. Unlike before, Romano did not panic, but he showed some confidence and agreed for his crew to take over the mission. She informs them that Tana and Mitsuki will be called back to take the mission. When he goes out of the room, he spots Tsuyobi and Tsuyobi asks if he could be a part of the mission, which Romano rejects, causing Tsuyobi to wonder why he wasn't good enough, but he did not show this side to Romano.
Later that arc, Romano is seen with Alderardo and Tsuyobi, but Mitsuki and Tana soon enter, revealing a few results of their mission and they discuss the next mission that will happen. They're next seen all in an airplane besides Tsuyobi, where Alderardo is sharing their plans to them again, which they agreed to. Suddenly, there was an unexpected visitor that was later on revealed to be Tsuyobi. Romano and Tsuyobi have an argument, where Romano wanted the best for his safety, while Tsuyobi was tired of being left out. When the fight calmed down, Alderardo starts repeating the plan, but adds Tsuyobi in it.
When they arrive in the place, Crew Sei was able to sneak in with Alderardo guiding them. However, his system was hacked and it caused them to lose their connection. Romano ends up worrying about his other members, but he focuses on going out of the place he's stuck in first. There, he meets Gilles Vallin, an older friend who now turned to an enemy and they have a fight. During the fight, Romano gets more pissed the more they interact because of how playful and unserious Gilles is, but at the end, no one wins the match and Gilles escapes. Much to his surprise, Gilles leaves knives which had codes in each of them.
By the end of the arc, Romano worries about his team's safety after hearing what Alderardo told him, causing him to leave the place together with his other members and breaking down afterwards. Alderardo ends up comforting him and giving him a hug. After Crew Quattro comes and Sepheir confirms they'll heal eventually, Sepheir talks to Romano, comforting him as well and telling him how she looks at him, causing Romano to cheer up a bit. When they returned to the Protezioni house, Romano tells the reports to the capos, and was bothered by Aki who used to have a relationship with one of their enemies. Later, he calms down and considers Aki's next mission as her redemption.
