Personality
Wisp is eccentric, nervous, and trusting to a fault. Past events have led him to be a rather paranoid individual as well, but he lets people in a lot more easily than he’d like himself to believe, really. He cares very deeply about those he considers close to him and tends to show his affection very openly once he feels comfortable with them. This deep love for those around him often means that Wisp often tries to choose them over himself, or simply put himself in harm's way to avoid his friends getting hurt. He’s much more likely to stick up for someone he cares for than himself, preferring to keep quiet about things that bother him. Part of this is due to his insecurity that he just isn’t worth the effort, or that he is overreacting to an issue and will be told so. He’s a shy and awkward cat, especially towards those he is unfamiliar with or when he’s stressed or anxious, which is often.
Despite his anxieties and insecurities, he really means well. He is more than willing to lend a hand- or paw- to those who need it, even if he doesn’t know them very well. He does his best to be kind and has a very even temper. His kindness is often mistaken for naivety, which isn’t completely inaccurate, but he also isn’t stupid. He can tell when people are trying to overtly manipulate him, even if he will not say anything to their faces.
Strengths
- Attentive. Wisp is a very keen cat when it comes to emotions, thanks to his own. He notices when someone needs help or someone to lend an ear, as well as when someone wants to be left well enough alone.
- Gentle Demeanor. Wisp holds himself in a way that other cats can find him approachable and non-threatening, often holding his head low to make himself appear smaller. He is very friendly and does his best to be considered a dependable cat.
- Medical Knowledge. While he’s no doctor, he’s picked up plenty of knowledge to keep himself, and the cats around him, in good health.
Weaknesses
- Four Left Paws. Despite his lithe frame, Wisp is not a very graceful cat and is pretty likely to trip over his own paws, especially if already frazzled.
- Someone's Watching. While friendly to most cats he meets, he has underlying paranoia that the same cat, and it was a cat, who had killed his friend, is out to get him. Whether it’s because Wisp was a witness, or because they had never finished the job.
- Soft Spoken. Wisp is not a leader in any sense of the word. He rarely speaks up for himself and frequently allows others to make decisions if possible.
History
Childhood
Wisp was raised in a small colony as a single kit to two parents who were somewhat strict and not very emotionally present, which didn’t mix well with them having a very anxious child. He was too nervous to become close to many cats, especially because of the pressure from his parents to focus on training and not as much on relationships, and so he only had one friend growing up, a scruffy tom named Oliver. The two were close, and Wisp took any excuse to be by his friend's side. When he and Oliver were around a year old, Oliver started to show the beginning signs of wind rot. As he had no parents to really take care of him, Wisp took on the role of trying his best to help his friend deal with his circumstances. Oliver also began to act more reckless and impulsive, and often dragged Wisp into his antics as well, who was more than happy to follow him, despite his anxieties.
While out on their own on the edges of their colony’s territory, the two cats became separated and Wisp only managed to find Oliver entirely too late. He swore he saw another cat standing over his friend’s lifeless body before he approached, running off into the underbrush before he could confront them. He knows they saw him, though, and he’s still worried that one day they’ll be back to finish the job and get rid of their only witness.
He was a coward, and instead of trying to drag Oliver’s body back home, which would leave him very vulnerable, he ran. He regrets it, deeply, even though he tearfully lead a patrol of adults back to where his friend lay once he got back. They assured him that it was likely just a bobcat or another predator and that the two of them shouldn’t have been out so far on their own, refusing to believe that it was another cat, which meant it could be someone they knew.
His parents took pity on him and let him grieve for his only friend for a time, but this was short-lived. Far sooner than Wisp was ready, they, especially his father, tried to convince him to get over it already. And Wisp did try his best to, but it was hard to get the image of his friend out of his mind, not to feel the empty space in his life where Oliver used to be. He (barely) tolerated this treatment for the next eight months before he struck out on his own without any notice. He didn’t care if his parents thought he had died, he just wanted out of there, and confronting them would only make leaving harder.
Adulthood
After he left, he tried to find other groups to live in, especially as he was still pretty young when he had left, but nothing had worked out long-term. So he became a sort of wanderer, meeting a variety of other cats on the way. He got along with most of them well enough, but his fear over others’ rejection of him for one reason or another is usually what drove him to move on, as well as feeling like he wasn’t useful enough and was just putting a drain on others’ resources. He’s had a couple of exes here and there, which have unfortunately added to his insecurities. He wants to belong somewhere, and is more open than he thinks he is, hoping someone will accept him and stick with him for who he is.
World Event
The eclipse happened while Wisp was on the road once again, and caught him very off guard. He wasn’t sure what to make of it, at first. It was frightening, surely, but after hearing tales about how the world used to be, he grew very curious. The rumors that followed not too long after convinced Wisp to not be as passive as he was, and to figure out what, exactly, was going on.

Design Notes
- stripes are simplified, in more detailed styles feel free to add more as long as they follow the shape :)
- eyes are blue, with a purple swirl! more realistic styles you can just shade his eye with purple/use a purpley blue :)
- "white" flecks across his shoulders, flank, and tail, meant to resemble snow! do not have to be exact as long as they feel like snow!
- (his)rear right leg is slightly asymetrical, with a cream stripe above the sock

Hemlock

Wisp met Hemlock on accident, the two of them both choosing the same hiding spot to stay low during a storm. Despite it being an initially awkward first meeting, the two travelled alongside eachother for a while. Wisp finds the other cat easy company, and thinks his humor is funny. He wasn't totally sure where Hemlock was going, but the two eventually parted ways so Hemlock could continue on with whatever he was doing.
It was a pleasant surprise, seeing him again, and Wisp hopes to spend more time with him.
Mira

Mira was another cat Wisp met during his travels. She was nice, if a bit quiet, and Wisp liked talking with her, filling their short journey together with his anxious rambling, which she seemed to not mind much. Both of them had had rather... stressful times, before meeting eachother, so it was a nice change of pace for the both of them.
He'd like to get to know her more, and hopes he'll get a chance to during all of... this.

"On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee the pain and trouble that are bound to ensue; and equal blame belongs to those who fail in their duty through weakness of will, which is the same as saying through shrinking from toil and pain. These cases are perfectly simple and easy to distinguish.

Mags

One of Wisp's teammates. He thinks shes funny, for the most part, even if most of her humor is teasing. She apparently knew Hemlock when he was younger, and he still seems fond of her, so Wisp is pretty willing to trust her.
Austin

Austin is less out-going than Mags, but the two of them seem like a package deal, so Wisp supposes his opinion on the both of them is pretty similar. His humor aligns more with Austin's than Mags, and he's been a good teammate as well.
