"This is a quote. Song lyrics might look nice here."
Mikal used to be a sweet immanu, if just a little bit shy and awkward most of the time. He put a lot of effort into his work researching artifacts, sometimes pushing himself too hard and not getting enough sleep because of it, and would still do his best to help others out with whatever they might need, too. He was jumpy and on-edge at times, but extremely trusting of those he knew.
After a certain... event, a few years back, his personality took a sharp turn. Mikal now puts up the front of a self assured, confident immanu; often annoying people on purpose just to get a reaction. He doesn't like to get close to people, if he can help it, though he's rarely outwardly rude. If he doesn't feel like answering someone properly, especially when asked about what happened(which he will pretend to know nothing of what you're talking about), he often responds to people in vague or cryptic ways. He still takes his job seriously, even though he refuses to explore for the Seekers' anymore, but outside of work, it's very tricky to talk to him sincerely.
Of course, his real personality is sitting just under the surface, where he tries not to let anyone see. Despite his demeanor, he cares deeply about appearances, and doesn't trust anyone--or, rather, doesn't want to let himself trust anyone--enough to let them catch on that something is really very wrong. An encounter with an artifact on a mission has left him scarred emotionally and mentally, and feeling very betrayed, and has changed him in ways he isn't fond of. It's... somewhat irrational, but he's very keen on not letting something like that happen again, and refuses to let anyone get close enough to him to hurt him so badly again.
Notable History
Childhood
Mikal grew up in Ichorrai with his mother and father as an only child, and as such was their pride and joy when he was young. They always pushed him to do the best he could, despite his anxieties(which, truthfully, were only worsened by his parents). He had a hard time making friends with other kids his age, both because of how busy he was and his own lack of social skills. He did have one friend, a human who he can’t for the life of him remember the name of now. The two were very close, and spent time together as often as Mikal was allowed to.
His friend, from what Mikal can remember, was always a little bit of a troublemaker, and often dragged Mikal into trouble with him. It was typically very harmless, with the worst instance being the two of them getting cornered by a feral daemon that Mikal was able to frighten off before either of them were injured. That is, until they had both decided to explore some ruins together. Mikal’s friend had told him tales about powerful but dangerous artifacts, and spoke of them as if he actually had encountered any. Mikal had always been pretty easily influenced, and was convinced to go easily despite his fear about it. Although Mikal didn’t see what had truly happened, he knows his friend touched something, and just like that he was gone. Mikal searched for him for hours after, having to scurry his way home before it got dark without his best friend. He tried to explain to his parents about what happened, but they just scolded him about going off on his own and making up stories, asking as if they didn’t know who he was talking about.
This event haunted him, and since then he’s had a growing interest in Fysa and artifacts. He’s always been rather cautious with it, though, and is scared of what more powerful artifacts could be capable of. His curiosity overpowers his fear, though, for the most part. He became more withdrawn and awkward, and instead of making new friends he poured himself into studying as a distraction.
AdolescenceHis parents have always been a bit overbearing, urging Mikal to do as much as he could as well as he could, obsessed with his success. He didn't think too much of it for a while, just figuring they wanted what was best for him. And he’d be lying if it wasn’t just easier to do as they asked and work hard academically as a way to try to forget about what happened to his friend. As he got older, though, it became increasingly and abundantly clear that his parents weren't really keeping his best interests in mind. They seemed to only care about how successful Mikal was, rather than Mikal himself, and were constantly pushing him to be as perfect as can be and berating him when he made mistakes. This made him develop a very skewed sense of his own self worth. He would rather die than be useless, so he's very determined and a hard worker who has trouble letting people do things for him. Now that he's an adult and on his own, it isn't hard to see why he doesn't have any contact with his parents anymore.
He moved away the second he had a chance, and began to study the history of Orrison professionally. He took his studies very seriously, studying under a rrex named Prism for a good chunk of them, and had an interest in art history specifically. On the side, he studied artifacts, and eventually joined the Seekers, where he worked both as an explorer and as a recordkeeper.

Seekers' Circle |
Researcher |
" Mikal joined the Seekers' as a young teenager, eager to explore more of the world and learn more about artifacts and magic. He was very active in the circle as a recordkeeper and an explorer for a number of years, but has decided to shelf that part of his life and transfer to simply doing research, no longer going on any field missions for the circle. Oh, Viscera.
The two of them met on one of Mikal's travels outside of Ichorrai to gather some information for the Seekers', and Mikal took a liking to messing with the poor rrex. He does his best to be a nuisance to him, though Viscera seems not to mind it and just bother the immanu right back. They are on mostly friendly terms, though Mikal finds him to be annoying sometimes. Mostly in how worryingly he's started to trust him.

The clear element is a purgative magic. It negates other elements. Clear attuned creatures often involve filtering of fysa or changing its forms. Clear is opposite of murk.
AMPLIFY
CORRUPT
CLEANSE
The blood element is one of two types of change elements. Blood is known as a healing element, one that takes advantage of and encourages the natural functions of the body. It can speed the body healing itself, as well as fast-forward and rewind growth. Blood is the opposite of marrow.
BALANCE
LOSS
GAIN
The marrow element is one of two types of change elements. Marrow represents adaptation and change against the natural order of things. Marrow users are often shapeshifters, between either set or various forms and they shift with emotion. Marrow is the opposite of blood.

Modification
Modification is a part of the Spark Aspect of the Clay Fysa. All luto start with this fysa.
This is an active fysa. The user can mold their own bodies to create new limbs or change their build. They can also assimilate new substrates and objects, or grow plants out of their own body.
The only thing a luto has difficulty changing is its mask. The mask is molded by its "parent" and most changes to the mask are things like paint, cracks, or chips. Luto who lose their masks or sustain too much damage lose their minds, becoming mindless constructs-- these moving, mindless forms die after a short while.
Beast Form
Beast Form is a part of the Cycle Aspect of the Marrow Fysa. All leyr start with this fysa.
This is a passive fysa. Transformation occurs when an individual is experiencing high emotion or stress, and is meant to be a defense mechanism against attack. Some users keep a tight hold on their emotions, while others who prefer their beast forms purposefully put themselves into un-ideal situations to trigger the magic. Beast form is normally roughly 2 feet taller than the size of the user, but this is a soft limit depending on build and other factors (and you can use less if you'd like).
Transformation can also occur in meditative states, or in strong exposure to magic. Consuming pure magic to change is not recommended, as magic has a tough strain on the body.
Once transformed, users can choose when to return to humanoid form.
Invoker
Invoker is a part of the Potential Aspect of the Clay Fysa.
This is an active fysa. One can use the power of a name to bolster or debilitate another. The truer a name is to someone's identity, the stronger this power is. This is part of the reason that certain species used to hide theirs (such as Ptheran, who knew about the Luto's abilities), though aliases and titles can still be invoked as well.
Buffs and Debuffs are small however, mostly causing energy or fatigue, and don't last for more than an hour.
Halo
This is a passive fysa that all rrex have from birth. It creates a halo of light (called 'crowns') above or around the user's head. A halo's shape, brightness, and color often reflects an individual's soul and occasionally emotion. To display one's halo is a symbol of pride, and as a prideful species, most rrex almost always display their halos.
Extremely humble or broken individuals wouldn't display a crown, as well as certain individuals wanting to hide theirs for a specific reason:
- for stealth (as crowns do give off light)
- to hide emotional state
- to appear less prideful and more friendly towards others of different species
- the rrex are hermits, wanderers, or isolated
- individuals who lose love of their country and thus have no pride
Although crowns often reflect emotional state in small ways (brightness, resonance/frequency, sometimes rotation/speed), these can be controlled with conscious thought and practice, like controlling one's own breathing. Crowns that change drastically (color, size, shape) are called stateshift crowns, and often reflect very intense or specific modes of thought or emotion.
The common rrex is unlikely to unlock their full potential, but rogues and pariahs are more likely to discover more fysa down the line. This is especially true for those who willingly give up their halo ability, as the halo is a symbol of a rrex's pride and sense of self.
Adaptation
Adaptation is a part of the Potential Aspect of the Clay Fysa.
This is an active fysa. Users can absorb the body of a deceased animal or plant, taking its abilities as well (ex: a poisonous plant to gain poisonous abilities). The more a user does this, the less control they have over their sentience/autonomy and they threaten to destroy their own identity. Doing this to a too-powerful or sentient creature will surely destroy a user's mind and shortly after kill them.
Healing
Healing is a part of the Gain Aspect of the Blood Fysa.
This is an active fysa. Healing other creatures takes great practice and care. A user must become extremely familiar with their physiology and body, and have a lot of exposure to the other species.
A user can encourage another's body to mend itself using magical energy and its own resources (fat & muscle), but again pushing a body past its limits will spend flesh to grow flesh, and the person being healed can die of malnutrition.
A creature which undergoes healing often needs lots of rest and food. The older a wound, the more it resists healing. Magic returns bodies to what their 'normal' should be, and the body accepts old scars as normal after a time, including conditions from birth.
