Schism has the build of a Friesian, though he is not as heavy and draft-like due to the influences of his other breeds. He has light feathering on his hooves. He has a very small appaloosa blanket marking. He is covered in a number of scars, a few of them major, including the one on his neck and his ribcage. He is slowly regaining weight and recovering to full health.

Schism is a very blunt creature. He's sarcastic. He doesn't think before he speaks and often can come across as very rude to newcomers. He's extremely impulsive and quick to prove himself. He doesn't take any consequences into account and feels that if the situation is bad enough, he is capable of getting himself out of it. He uses the tactic of appearing dumber than he actually is in order to gain more information, and also to make other horses underestimate him. He is capable of being formal and can be polite if the time is right. He's greedy and ambitious, willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants. He has a certain state of apathy and doesn't care about anything that's happening around him unless it directly affects him or those he cares about. At first glance, he appears to be a heartless ass who cares for nothing but himself, but he does have a heart buried deep. He's fiercely protective about those he cares about and can almost seem possessive or obsessed. He is level headed in most situations, but he can be very cruel when angered. After his converstion process to the Light alliance, he shoulders a lot of guilt for what he's done and hopes to make up for it. He has very little self worth and feels he deserves everything that has happened to him.

Born to his mother Andromeda and his father, Lateralus. He was the second born in a set of twins. He has an older twin brother named Sthenelus. Before he was a year old, he began wandering out of the herd at night to Kunipar Cliff. He learned a lot of the "Dark arts" from Kunipar Cliff and is determined to reform Dark Woods. It's here that he meets Draxias, who becomes one of his best friends. He meets Hail Romance when she trespasses into the herd pregnant. He meets several equines and makes friends and enemies alike in the Free lands. One of the equines he meets is Anger and the two of them become friends. They eventually have sex, but Anger gets pregnant. She gives birth to his firsborn, a son named Conduit. Anger decides to live in Dark Woods to take care of her son, and her mate, Lust - ironically one of Schism's friends - joins her. During his two year old stage, Schism visits the Free lands often for sex and gets another mare pregnant named Bianca. Bianca brings their son, Ulquiorra to Dark Woods and tries to convince Schism's brother, Seth that the foal is his instead. Schism becomes King of Dark Woods at the ripe age of three and is very proud to hold the crown. Schism then meets Malta in Dark Woods and the two of them become lovers. Malta eventually gives birth to a daughter named Strife.

Schism meets a stallion named Baron in the Free lands and the two of them become tentative allies, Baron being the owner of Terrivel Beleza. Schism travels to Baron's lands to meet Baron's sister, Serenity because Baron wants her to be happier. Unfortunately for all of them, Schism and Serenity have already met before for sex. Serenity snarls at Schism for coming back for a "round two". Schism denies this, but doesn't deny that he had sex with Serenity. Baron tells Schism to leave and he does so, furious at the bay mare for pretending it didn't happen and for ruining a potential alliance. Schism meets several new sub herd owners, Victim, Bloody Corpse, Zombie Nation, and Lust himself. He meets with them all and develops good relationships with each of them. He is then visited by the Dark Queen in a question of alliance, as well as by Karma, a Guard from neighboring Pendle Island. Schism then decides to sell his soul to the Devil, after meeting someone in Kunipar Cliff that tells him about it. However, after his friend, Draxias finds out about it, she tries to undo it by selling her own soul and trying to conceive a baby with the Devil. It doesn't work and Schism finds out and goes to her lands, furious at her for trying to save him when he doesn't deserve to be saved. However, their argument quickly desolves when Draxias admits she loves Schism and Schism realizes that he feels the same and has for some time.

Tragedy strikes when Schism finds out that both his mother and his twin brother, Sthenelus have been killed by wolves. He mourns heavily and is manically depressed and in a rage for weeks on end. Eventually, he manages to cope with the help of Draxias and the two discover that she is pregnant. Schism manages to fight off the effects of being soulless, but eventually gives into the dark thoughts and temptations it gives him. His sister, Estelle has been seeing an unknown stallion for several months and the stallion's scent is that of Romeo's. Lateralus implores Estelle to stop seeing him, but she refuses, saying that he's nice and treats her well. Eventually, she ends up pregnant. They also discover that Kyla, one of Lateralus's ex-mates, is the beta mare to Romeo and that Schism's son, Ulquiorra is beta stallion to the Helkaer Commander. Schism is furious at Romeo for tricking and seducing his family members. The effects of his soullessness begin to act up and he gives into the insanity. In one of his boughts of rage, he goes to Phantasmagoria and finds Kyla. After she leaves, he follows her and rapes her in one of the Free lands, determined to get revenge upon the bastard he hates so much. Several months pass and he finds out Kyla is pregnant by him. However, so does the rest of Dark Woods. His father confronts him and when he refuses to apologize or repent for his crimes, his father beats him and calls a herd meeting. He is stripped of leadership and forced out of Dark Woods as an exile. He decides to rebuild his life from the land Isle of Pines, lead by Sykota. When Kyla's son, Ezeakiel is born, he takes the boy with him to raise with a broodmare. Now, he waits in Isle of Pines, trying to plot a way to get revenge on his father and the herd who exiled him.

However, he soon tires of staying in Isle of Pines. He travels back to Phantasmagoria to confront his son, Ulquiorra about him betraying his family by taking Romeo's side. He then discovers that Ulquiorra has a daughter named Larna. He then attempts to see Draxias more. However, she scarcely leaves Dark Woods because of her daughter. Eventually he corners her and challenges her for custody of Synnove, and then sweetens the deal by saying if he wins, she'll owe him another foal, and if she wins, she'll be able to sacrifice him to the Afterlife. She agrees to the battle and they take it to the battlegrounds. They fight. Schism wins the battle and feels triumphant because he believes that this will get them closer. Soon Draxi is expecting another child from him, but nothing has changed. Believing Draxi hates him, Schism goes to the Underworld to try to see if they have anything for him to do while he waits for the child to be born. During his wanderings in the Free lands, Schism meets a mare named Roux, who breaks past his barriers. The two eventually sleep together.

Schism continues to wander the Free lands for several months, mostly sleeping with random women, including Rosalia, Collateral Damage, and Simplicity - the latter case being when the two were put under a love spell caused by the Afterlife. Schism begins trying to plot ways to take back Dark Woods while not actually following through with any plans. During this time, he meets back up with Roux, who tells him that she had his son, Ahzidal, some months ago. Only a few months later, Schism wakes up one morning and is shocked when he feels normal. His soul has been returned to him. However, even with his soul back, he still struggles between personality changes and reality. While in the Free lands, he meets up with Baron, an ally he made when he was still King of Dark Woods. Baron offers him a home so long as he promises not to harm anyone. Schism makes the vow and takes up residence in Terrivel Beleza. From there, he unexpectedly runs into Draxi again. He is shocked to see her and they have a surprisingly civil conversation. Draxias gives birth to their second child, a filly named Apocrypha.

Schism stays on the outskirts of Terrivel Beleza, keeping himself isolated. He meets Baron's Queen, Skindred, and the two of them strike a quick friendship. While traveling in the Free lands, Schism unexpectedly meets a mare that seems familiar and is shocked to realize that this mare, Rosalia, is a mare he attacked when he was soulless. She is now pregnant with his child. He decides to take her home to Terrivel Beleza and await the birth of the baby and help her raise it, since she does not seem mentally capable. Schism is then saddened when Skindred tells him she has to leave due to her breaking up with Baron. Draxias continues to be very distant with both Schism and their daughter and eventually she starts leaving Terrivel Beleza without a word. Schism continues to raise their daughter by himself and stays in his corner of isolation in Terrivel Beleza. However, he is eventually found by none other than his grandmother, Winter Solstice, and her son, Hezekiah, who also live in Terrivel Beleza. The mare takes him under her wing and the four of them spend a lot of time together, despite what Schism has done.

Some time later, the group notices that Baron has not been around lately and are called to a herd meeting by an unknown party. A very young stallion named Malocchio claims that he had been given Terrivel Beleza and rechristens it Carnevale Scheletro. Schism has no problem with the way they run things and his only concern is for his daughter, Apocrypha. However, the new herd and its leader do not last long when Malocchio leaves and the land is claimed by another stallion called Snake Eyes who renames it Nilflheim. Schism feel even more lost under this new leadership, missing the leadership of his friend, Baron, and eventually he and Apocrypha leave Nilflheim, even after Snake Eyes departs and the land is taken by Ephraim and renamed Coireacht. Schism and his daughter travel for a few more months before Apocrypha decides to leave her father's company. He is sad at her departure, but knows it's what she wants.

After this, Schism begins to contemplate what he wants and decides that he does not want to be the monster he has turned into over the past couple of years. He is overcome with despair and guilt and decides to try to fix himself. He seeks out the company of the Versai, presenting himself to Allocen or Trinity, a Versai mare who owns Lyrarcor. She agrees to cleanse him and he pledges himself completely to the conversion process, hoping that it can finally make him feel like a part of the world again. After the conversion is complete, Schism meets up with Gaul and Cenric, who are looking for Ahzidal as well as Roux, who are both missing. After convincing the boys that he really does know Roux, the three of them go and ask for Allocen's help. Allocen agrees to help them find Roux. In the meantime, Schism wanders the Free lands a bit to take his mind off of his anxiety over finding her and meets a mare named Rhymera.
