Jianlong is a calm person and prefers to think logically over acting by his feelings. He doesn't say much and doesn't like considering too many possibilities. He often strives for logical reasoning and hates to be around people who are too obsessed about the past.

When Jianlong was in his teenage years, he took the Hunter Exam and passed on his first try due to him knowing about Nen. His family didn't see much benefit of getting a license at first, but Jianlong was able to convince them that having a Hunter License can be convenient. He understood that just being a royalty won't guarantee you access to places that's closed off for other people.

A few months before the Hunter Exam, Jianlong summons Junwei Shu into his room. The parent informs the son that he had signed him up for the upcoming Hunter Exam. Jianlong orders him to prepare for it and that he may not return until he has his Hunter License.

Jianlong tasked himself to teach Itsuki Hayabusa Nen as part of her Post-Exam. He left a few days before Junwei returned home. Before he met with Itsuki, he found himself getting assaulted by bandits who recognized him to be the Emperor of the Shu Empire. He deals easily with them and approaches Itsuki while using Zetsu, telling her it was not nice to ignore someone who was being assaulted. Itsuki did not expect Jianlong to appear behind her so suddenly, shocking and startling the examinee. Jianlong holds out Itsuki's Hunter License, telling her that she isn't worthy of being a Hunter since she hasn't passed the exam. Those words confused Itsuki as she knew she had passed the exam. Jianlong sighs and decided to show his Ren, causing Itsuki to tense up by the sudden change of the atmosphere around him. Jianlong was impressed that Itsuki's first instinct wasn't to run away and decided to teach her Nen.

A few weeks later, Jianlong hears about a revolution in the Shu Empire. He had to weigh down the choice of finishing his duty as a teacher or to return to the empire. He decided to not give it too much thought and dragged the pupil with him to his home country. Upon returning home, he tells his brother Minglong and the Nen teacher Xinya to look after his guest. He is quickly greeted by Xuemei and Naoqi fighting against Franklin Bordeau. He used Manipulation to get Franklin away from them. Soon afterwards, they got attacked by Nobunaga Hazama, who just fought Junwei. He went head to head against Nobunaga until Naoqi teleported Nobunaga away and voiced her concern about Bolong and Junwei who fought against Nobunaga. It didn't take long for Junwei to appear with Bolong on his back.

Jianlong knew fighting against the Troupe and his own country afterwards was not worth it. The Emperor orders Xuemei to create duplicates of the royal family with her Great Catalog ability and used his TV remote to put simple commands in them, allowing the clones to get killed. This created the fake image for the Troupe they had succeeded.

Jianlong ordered his son to relay the message to retreat to the family. After the family found a place to stay, he continued the Nen training with Itsuki. After some time, he decided it was time for Itsuki to find out her category. He first ordered Junwei to show her how it worked and then showed his own. After a month, Jianlong announced that Itsuki had passed the secret exam when she was able to drastically change the taste of the water. Jianlong explained about the secret exam and announced that Itsuki was now officially a Hunter. With that, Itsuki left to go back home.

Jianlong allowed Junwei and Bolong to go to Yorknew city to get their hands on Greed Island. He gave the two access to their money, but only a portion could be accessed by the two.

When V5 hired Chairman Netero to exterminate the Chimera Ants, Jianlong got enlisted with Morel and Knov. When arriving at the border, Jianlong tells his demotivated son to rethink and refresh his mind before allowing him back in as well as improving his Nen.

During their stay, they were able to clear multiple squadrons. When Morel and Knov started to bet on who would come along, Jianlong states he doesn't want to gamble his money away.

The following day, they see Colt flying towards them. Knov opens a portal, but they stay when they notice the Ant is carrying a white flag. He comes to them with the intention of surrendering, telling them about the premature birth of the King and begging them to save the Queen. He warns them that should the Queen die, the Squadron Leaders will leave the nest and try to spread their seed. Jianlong remains suspicious while Knov confirms it is possible. They accept to take Colt to the Chairman. The five relocate to a sumptuous room where Netero requests the Hunter Association to send Dr. Lee, her best surgeons and artificial organ specialists to the Queen's nest. They are astonished by Colt's assessment of Netero's aura, according to which he will be killed by one of the Royal Guards before he can reach the King. They return to the colony with the surgeons. Despite the doctors' efforts, all they can do is prolong the dying moment of the Queen for a few minutes.

After Knuckle and Shoot find and capture Kite's manipulated body in the nest, Jianlong returns to where Junwei is and to see his progress.

Through Colt, the Extermination Team becomes aware of the Sorting and that the Royal Guards know how to awaken Nen by force. Netero infiltrates the Republic of East Gorteau and warns the Extermination Team to assume the worst if they do not hear from him by the appointed day. Ten days before the rally announced by Masadoru Diego takes place, Jianlong, Knov, Morel, Knuckle, Shoot, Junwei, Itsuki, Gon, and Killua take a train to East Gorteau. When Morel tests Gon, Jianlong was impressed by the boy's aura. Following the Chairman's instructions, the Extermination Team divides into three groups—Morel, Jianlong, Itsuki and Knov versus Shaiapouf, Knuckle, Junwei and Shoot versus Menthuthuyoupi, Gon and Killua versus Neferpitou—and separate the Royal Guards from the King.

Jian: Jianlong always carries his jian around.

Jianlong has all the benefits granted by his status as a Hunter. He has vast wealth at his disposal, but doesn't seem to rely on it very often.

Swordsmanship: Jianlong is seen to be very skilled with using his Jian and other bladed weapons. He relies on his swordsmanship whenever he's not using his Nen ability.

Super Remote (多様可能性, スーパーリモコ Diverse Possibilites)

Jianlong's Nen ability is called Super Remote. It allows him to conjure a TV Remote which can be used in different ways. There are 12 different options he can use. He can only use one at a time. If he switches to another option, the effects of the previous option will disappear. The effects and rules he assigned to each button cannot be altered afterwards. If the remote gets destroyed or the remote is dismissed, then the effects will disappear as well. The effects on the targets will not return if the remote gets summoned again and the process will have to get repeated. The exception to this is to button 8.

Mind Stop (念頭停留, マインドストプ Stop in mind)

The button 1 gives Jianlong the ability to manipulate his target. He has to be within at least 2 meters reach for the effects to kick in. He also has to point his remote at the target's face for it to work. After that, he can control them from a distance up to approximately 10 meters. He can only control one person at a time.

Mysterious Box (物置, ミスティアリアスボックス Storeroom)

The button 2 allows Jianlong to summon a conjured box. The box can be used to store items and it can contain up to 5 items of any size.

Spy Eye (写真機, スパイアイ Camera)

Jianlong conjures a tracking device and a tablet device. The button 3 is used to link the tracker to the tablet and to turn on the screen of the conjured tablet device. He can keep track of three people at the same time. If a fourth tracking device is conjured, the oldest one will disappear. He can also use them as surveillance cameras.

Dual Wand (拡張杖, デュアルウォンド Extended Wand)

The button 4 will allow Jianlong's aura travel through the TV Remote as he transmutes the aura in the shape of a sword or whip. The TV Remote will serve as a handgrip.

Risky Shot (危険な弾丸, リスキーショット Dangerous Bullet)

The button 5 allows Jianlong to shoot a Nen bullet at his target from his TV Remote. He can only fire one bullet every 2 hours, the trajectory is visible to the nacked eye and the shot is not silent, but in return his emitted attack is much stronger and faster than what a conjurer is normally capable of. In the two hours his button 5 is disabled his other buttons that have Hatsu from another category than Conjuration will get disabled as well for 2 hours.

Radiograph (透視, レーディオーグラフ Seeing Through)

Jianlong conjures a blank card. By aiming his TV Remote at it and by pressing the button 6 allows him to have X-Ray vision as long as he looks through the card. The effect is time limited and the bigger the card the shorter the amount of time he can use it. He can only conjure a card every 5 minutes.

Blackout (沈黙, ブラックアウト Silence)

The button 7 allows Jianlong to force his target in a state of Zetsu for 1 hour. He has to aim his TV Remote at his target's face and be in a range of 1 meter. He also needs to know their full name and cite it before he presses the button. He can only force Zetsu on one person at a time.

Recovery Boost (超治, リカバリーブースト Super Healing)

Breakthrough (増強, ブレークスルー Increase)

The button 9 is used to boost his own aura to his maximum. Jianlong has to aim his TV Remote at his own head. The effect lasts for approximately 5 minutes or less, depending on how much aura he has on the moment.

Lockup (獄舎, ロックアップ Prison)

The button 10 allows Jianlong to conjure a room to trap himself with his target. Only 2 people can be in the room at the same time and Jianlong himself has to be one of them. The effect lasts for approximately 20 minutes. The room is not visible from the outside and the size varies. The room will disappear if Jianlong loses consciousness or runs out of aura. It is mainly used to trap a person.

Mental Link (繋ぐ, メンタルリンク Connect)

The button 11 allows him to link his aura to that of someone else's, creating a mental link. The linked people will be able to communicate with each other mentally at any distance. This ability can only be used if the other person gives them their consent.
