Born and raised in the frigid north of Alkiin, Anyat struggled with the rigid, reasonable expectations of her home. Simultaneously too curious for her own good, quick to shirk responsibility, and slippery fingered; she had a knack for getting into trouble, even if it was largely harmless.That lacking sense of dutifulness and restless need to go poking her nose where it didn’t belong earned her an early reputation as a troublemaker, someone who would hopefully straighten out over time. Instead, Anyat doubled down on her bad habits, dreaming of the wider world beyond her familiar, comfortable, mountain home.
As a young teenager she was inspired by Allard to look beyond the safety of Alkiin, though she failed to act on that until she was nearly 19, when she met Belamir of Whitewater, who finally convinced her to strike out on her own instead of sticking around in the snow. He introduced her to the wider world and encouraged her penchant for white lies and light hands. The changes in culture and pace of life were as bewildering to her as they were thrilling. The importance of money, the availability of goods, how many corners of the continent the people came from. Belamir guided her through it all, a friend— albeit difficult— who encouraged her habits, savory or otherwise. Together, said white lies and light hands eventually evolved into cons and instances of theft, ways to have a good time and keep themselves floating by comfortably. He was far from the only friend she made along the way, but he was the most important.
Following their last job Anyat lost track of Belamir. They split to dodge unwanted attention, but failed to meet back up afterwards. She hasn’t seen him since, doubtful of any serious harm to him— choosing instead to assume that he’s either a: in jail b: finally opted to ditch her c: finally opted to ditch her while also knowingly running off with an uneven portion of their reward. She’s as spitefully annoyed by him as much as she misses him. Thankfully, she’s less green to Marayul than she was when she relied on him most, and is comfortable, if not slightly lonely, striking out on her own to see what else she can find in the world.
Pavlova is a Least Weasel, though there’s nothing small about her in this universe obviously… She’s as finicky as her human counterpart when it comes to other people, and very particular about who she tolerates vs who she enjoys. Pavlova is slightly more even-tempered than Anyat is, and protective of her. But they are matches in terms of curiosity and a desire to go rifling through things regardless of whether it’s any of their business.
She was white when Anyat first met her/when she lived in Alkiin. Their journey south however resulted in a spring coat change to brown. There was an unfortunate period of time where she looked like a spotted catastrophe. It was very concerning for Anyat who was not expecting her marshmallow to toast so severely. She’s been brown ever since, as Anyat hasn’t gone far enough north to warrant another miserable shedding experience.
Anyat met Pavlova when she was a young girl, not quite 10. Scolded by her community aunties and frustrated with being effectively grounded she saw an opportunity to sneak out. Unfortunately for her she struck out a little bit too far in her unsanctioned ‘adventure’ and lost track of the trail back to Alkiin. Alone, cold, and stuck in the dark Pavlova found her. She kept her warm overnight and followed her in the morning when she set about trying to find home again. The search party that had gone out looking for her found her overly excited by her very large new friend. Her very large, very persistent, over-protective, new friend. Honestly, Pavlova probably fit in with Alkiin better than Anyat did…
