Rida Torlily

Known for being cunning and ruthless if needed to be, yet can appear kind and warm to get close to people, Rida is the head matriarch of the Torlily family. For many years, they've been rivals with the Norwood family over the potion selling license the council of witches permits. Despite her pleas and willingness to share the permission that was ultimately granted to Belladonna Norwood, the license remained solely within the Norwood family.

Angered by this, Rida let jealousy get the best of her as she started to wage war in attempts to get rid of her competition and get the permission in her and her family's hands. However, before she was able to exact her revenge on Belladonna, Bella died. Now she has set her eyes on Belladonna's daughter Gabe, who inherited the license after her mother died.

Personality

Rida Torlily is stubborn, ambitious, and determined witch. Not being one to shy away even from questionable methods to reach her goals, she's both ruthless and cunning when coming up with her schemes. To those who see her on the outside and those who she interacts somewhat rarely, she seems mostly rather harmless, as she's good at hiding her true intentions and feelings behind her seemingly rather kind demeanor. This is a big reason as to why she was able to fool Gabe into trusting her, not suspecting at all that she was the one behind her curse.

To those she's on good terms with, however, she's a lot different, as to them she's a lot nicer and even kind, such as the members of her family. Speaking of which, being the head of Torlily family, Rida is especially caring when it comes to her children, although her youngest and her only daughter admittedly gets special treatment as the future head of the family, with satyrs being matriarchal species after all. As a mother, Rida is supportive and positive, but also tough and strict when the situation calls for it.

Rida can be quite temperamental and quick to anger, but she's good at keeping it all hidden. Most of the times her true feelings come to surface through passive aggressive remarks. As one would expect, Rida is quite unforgiving, as she has held grudge towards Norwoods for two generations.

Backstory

Rida is the oldest daughter of Brumu Torlily, a satyr witch living in the town of Crowbog. As satyrs are matriarchal species, being the eldest daughter is very important as they will be the next head of the family. Brumu definitely had high expectations for her. Little Rida really wanted to become a nursemaid when she'd grow up, but Brumu did not approve these dreams. Instead, she told Rida that as the next head of the Torlily family she should get a more meaningful job – Or, Brumu's idea of meaningful. So, Rida eventually decided to study potions.

Rida's childhood was mostly happy, and she was close with her two little sisters, Kihtita and Vryka. She had a good relationship with her parents, too, although Brumu kept being very demanding towards Rida, having very high expectations of her. Brumu did also love her very dearly, but her demands did have a bit of an effect on her.

In her twenties, Rida wanted to become a potion seller. The town of Crowbog was giving out selling licenses for magic potions, and one license was for healing potions. Rida was immediately interested, as healing potions were valued. Therefore, they would make a lot of money and her mother would value her work, too. However, another witch by the name of Belladonna Norwood also wanted the license. Bella had been practicing making healing potions much longer than Rida had, so the license ended up being given to Bella. Rida still got a license to sell certain potions, but Bella ended up getting most of the clients in Crowbog. 

Rida was very envious and angered, viewing Bella as a rival from this point onward. She was always very rude towards Bella, who in turn tried to be polite but gave up quickly after noticing how stubborn Rida was. She also considered Bella's girlfriend and later fiancée Aria an enemy, but with Aria their rivalry was more professional and respectful, but still cold. Rida swore she would get her revenge on Bella one day. Rida's sisters tried to tell she that she was overreacting, but she really just wanted to live up to the expectations for the next head of the Torlily family.

Rida met a satyr named Deon Tombend at the age of 23, and the two got married very fast. She soon had her first child Rionur at the age of 24. Rida wanted to have a big family, so they had another son, Rhaat, when Rida was 28, and third, Dhuz, when she was 31. She loved all her sons very dearly, but she also really wished they'd have a daughter as well, as she needed a successor.

Rida had felt weird with Deon for a long time, but she couldn't really put her finger on it. In her thirties she finally realized she was a lesbian. She was pregnant with their fourth child at the time she finally decided to tell Deon about it. Deon was shocked and the two divorced. Deon left immediately, not even wanting to be there when their fourth child would eventually be born. Rida had her youngest child at the age of 35, and the baby turned out to be a daughter and she named her Daarae. 

While being a single mother of four was hard, Rida was still very happy that she finally had a successor. After Daarae's birth Rida got herself a familiar to keep her (and her children) company, a magpie by the name of Basileides. Later she also gave all her kids corvid familiars, too. And obviously she still had her sisters and mother to help her take care of her kids. Rida is trying her best to help Daarae find her calling in life, trying to encourage Daarae to become a powerful witch just like she did. Rida's father Rhaz passed away when she was 37, and it was hard on the whole family.

Even though Rida had been busy with raising her kids, she still hadn't forgotten about Bella and her revenge. She kept planning it carefully, waiting for the perfect moment. However, to Rida's surprise, Bella became ill and died at the age of 45. Her potion selling license was passed onto her daughter Gabrielle Norwood. Rida decided to make new plans as Gabe was very different from Bella. Years later she cursed Gabe, but her anger got in the way and the spell was botched, but she did manage to send a demon after Gabe.
