1. Hyper-reality, and BAR [Biological Augmented Reality]; Also, Ultra-reality

"The Biological Augmented Reality (BAR) is an enhanced version of the real physical world achieved through ones own perceptive abilities of the brain and eyes. Global searches finds a common rephrasing as the 'Hyper-reality' to describe this phenomenon. More research and study is needed. Suspect; ▒▒▒▒▒▒?" - Officer W.Y's Notes

Lacking a clear and true definition of this field... It's not unlike Limbo, the space between, but there are some key differences. It's like ... If reality was folding over and over again, creating new 'happenings' of events, worlds, time, space, everything, and at a rapid pace. So the 'world' here is rather hostile and unpredictable, sometimes quiet, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, sometimes deafening. Because things are happening all at once, in a kind of somewhat-safely contained bubble of vision into a multi-layered reality, the surrounding environment in ones vision is distorted and chaotic. It's created from the perspective of the viewer interpreting everything at a blinding-speed, and of objects into a recognizable form for conscious minds, becoming very mismatched and dream-like. Outside this bubble of vision the world grows bleaker and grim. Things are very unfamiliar and unnatural, horrific in nature.... Its best not to venture too far from what you can 'see' here.

So far, Arvin and demons and other deftly magical creatures are the only ones that can voluntarily access this plane.

  Other notes about the hyper-reality:

  i. Mostly demons wander this space. Souls, spirits and those crossing over are stuck in Limbo.
ii. Franky can only access this space with Arvin's help. Jake learns how to on his own.
iii. Yami and Koomi are natives to the hyper-reality.

2. Red Lines (Backstory)48213107_kAoptFd2yASPbVk.png

Arvin was born in a small town called Sune, located in a northern prairie-desert and with a modest population of about 4,000. Half of that which coexisted in this town were from the reserve; Arvin was a mix. He stayed with both his grandparents and great-grand parents but didn't feel a belonging to either. Growing up, he fought a lot with the local kids, and felt alone, isolated in his inexperience and growing more restless to leave and explore on his own. He got himself in a lot of accidents as well, wicked stunts and visits to the doctor was a regular thing! Arvin was very energetic, and acrobatic from a young age, attempting backflips and parkour off roofs, playgrounds, vehicles and so on. He would practise a lot of gymnastic-related skills that would carry on as a hobby through-out his life.

Afflicted with ADHD, his attention and desire to try all kinds of new experiences or skills and hobbies was constant with his running imagination, and usually fleeting interest to interest. This caused him a lot of struggle with learning Cree especially and having a short attention and lacking memory associated with his engaged interest this way... Growing up, he tried both to be part of the farm-hand, and follow traditions, but it never felt right, or something would always go wrong... Arvin eventually started to feel more isolation and embarrassment from these things in his life, distancing himself further and retreating into fantasy as he explored the wide open grass, hills and hoodoos.

His childhood friend was Ayria, a roo he befriends a few houses down from his. Ayria is so inspiring, bright, and energetic, really lifting him up and allowing Arvin a friend he can be himself with. They form a really close bond with their friendship together, and are life-long besties! Arvin also has a rival; another roo and cousin to Ayria, Sammi. Sammi really dislikes Arvin, and they can get very tense with one another. Ayria is often needing to de-escalate between them.

As a teen, Jake happens to cross in through the town. He's on a road-trip with his college from Sweden and stopping in for a couple days. He's part of a exchange student program where he is to stay in the country for 6 months before returning back to Europe. Arvin and Jake happen to meet with Ayria selling a dreamcatcher to him. The dreamcatcher he chose Arvin actually made, when he was crafting with Ayria and helping her make supply to sell.

Jake and Arvin got on well, sharing his life and home to him. He takes him all around the town and some parts of the reserve. Jake is staying at the local motel with the other tourists but parts from their gatherings and studies often to seek out and spend time with Arvin. Arvin and Ayria take Jake to a powwow and hes ecstatic to experience something like it for the first time in his life. Shortly after, a local outdoor rave in the valley to end the night on a high note, with much romance between the two... Ayria ends up splitting and going with Sammi and her other cousins after the party is broken up by officers checking out the commotion from reported complaints.

Arvin meets with his family for Sunday dinner, admitting his desire to leave the town. His folks explain they knew and kind of expected he would. Arvin feels a little conflicted by their reaction, seemingly unbothered by the choices Arvin makes in life (good or bad.) hes at the very least, happy they seem to support his decision, but they also don't seem to take him very seriously... They ask if hes still gonna attend the next powwow, and if he'll join in drumming. Arvin declines it which disappoints them, asking him to rethink it.

Arvin sees Jake again but he says hes leaving in a day... He's worried about leaving Arvin behind, but hes got about a week left in the country before he goes back overseas. Arvin feels really heart-broken but tries not to show it. Instead they vow to meet again, and soon. They spend the afternoon on the hillside again, but Jake leaves shortly after. Arvin finds a note from him with a confessing love letter and asking him to be his boyfriend, with his contact details.... D'aww ;_;

The boys walk along the road together and meet Ayria, selling on the road-side again. Its hot, but they decide to join her. They sit together in silence looking across the dirt road, mustard fields and prairie.

After tearful goodbyes, he continues on with Ayria that day to her house. The Elders having tea with her parents, they ask about their day and whereabouts, the powwow and so on... Both of them are insisted to stay, and of course, help with chores and dishes... (Dang...) Ayria sits with her parents, whilst Arvin does dishes in the kitchen. Yuna joins him and helps him put away the dishes. They talk for a while, his concerns about the powwow and why he doesn't want to go, about life, purpose, the gifts of creator and imparting some important wisdom for later that evening. Offering caring advice and a hug, Arvin accepts, feeling rarely understood but relieved in the moment, and agrees to go.

After a fun but chaotic powwow and flurry of events, ends the night with a fight between Arvin and Sammi putting Arvin in a tense position among Ayrias cousins... He decides its best to leave, and abandon his past for good, opting to run away... He sees Ayria on the prairie hillside one last time, explaining what happened and his intentions. She begs him to stay but he's made his mind, and says she can keep his truck. He doesn't have a legal license anyways, and can't drive out of the town or reserve. He gives her the keys and they make a promise to meet again. She's sad its come to this, and to herself, plots a way to help her bestie out, and maybe smooth things over with her cuz.

After the following night, in the early morning, Arvin prepares for his journey, but is ambushed by Sammi and his brother, deciding Arvin's pissed him off enough, and him just leaving the town isn't good enough... Wanting to exile him brutally themselves. After a brief confrontation, he makes a run for through the mustard field and tall corn and hes chased away, Sammi patrolling the dirt roads to be sure... Arvin hitches a quick ride with Ayria out but barely escapes, having to cross a muddy brook and into unfamiliar territory...

(↑ Small note; There's more depth to this story I may add at another time! I'd really like to write this story out fully, but I haven't found time to compile it completely.)

3. Franky's Mansion

After returning to the present day from time-traveling gone-wrong - Frankeleyn (Franky) The Magic Cat returns to her once sophisticated Victorian home, now derelict and abandoned with the time that carried her away. It seems the house has somewhat been able to least ward off burglars and evil entities. The house was in a state regardless with some of the shingles and wood missing here and there, the weather drain clogged, the deck and patio falling apart, the window's shutters barely attached on rusted hinges that groan painfully against a breeze. How sad, her once lively home!... Litter and fliers had piled up across the lot as well... Franky made an attempt with some magic to sweep away some of he debris, but she didn't exactly have a 'smarten the joint up' spell, much as she would like that... It would take time and manpower. She grabs a flier blowing against her shoulder, looking at some of the printed advertisings, and dialing the first number she sees (with her old-fashioned telephone of course)... A number for a handyman, huh...

Later, Arvin comes knocking on her door. He steps up the creaky steps and stares at the old-fashioned lot. He reaches to ring the bell, but notices there is none...? He instead bangs on the door-knocker in the center but the door suddenly swings up after barely a single knock taps it - WHOA! ... Franky is beyond delighted to have had someone respond so readily! She must have been waiting for him at the window.

Inviting him in, the house was a time capsule of its own, having been mostly untouched on the inside entirely. But quite dusty in each and every corner of the place. As they walk into the main-room to sit down for some tea, she introduces him to his specific title, denoting him a housekeeper and personal servant. She shows off a little, making the tea manifest and pour itself before them...! After some awe and amazement, she goes on to explain his main purpose here... He would be responsible for the house chores, fixing broken, decrepit appliances in the house and repairing it, other kinds of maintenance, and serving her personally at her every whim and desire as she requests. He would also be expected to cook, chauffeur, and so on. In return, he would have his own room and quarters of course.

Arvin considers the offer, currently out on the street and not any other propositions have come up so, foolish really it would be to turn it down. Feeding her would mean feeding himself too right? So it seems like a win-win all around and all he'd have to really do is clean up, and fix a few things... Maybe get her a meal in the middle of the night or a drink here and there... No problem! Honestly sounded easy to him. Arvin asks when his hours of work would be but she informs him he would be on-call at all times... Oh! Alright..! He would get a monthly allowance of pay but otherwise his pay would also be included (and thus deducted from) his stay as well... She hands him a fistful of... very old looking money, $200 worth as a first payment. Arvin mulls it over briefly with money in hand and yet with his hesitations melting away, can't help but feel compelled in the offer and the undeniable allure this cat had on him. Those silver eyes had him, and he agreed. Yes! Franky was ecstatic and jumping to her feet immediately!

From here on, Arvin would explore and get to know the different rooms of the house, become familiar with all its inner-workings and - OH MY GOD IS THAT A MAN-EATING PLANT?! - He would soon find out that cohabiting in a wizard's dwelling is pretty much what you'd expect... Full of the whimsy, danger, occult summons gone wrong and exposure to unimaginable malformations and creatures... But also, a lot of excitement, amazement and incredible things, Franky was truly capable of a lot and with great power! ... She could be a little irresponsible at times though. She drank A LOT as well. Drunken wizards are not to be trifled with and at times, a bit problematic...

Arvin would make a lot more friends too (and a lover!..) meeting Noel the Spanish cat, Rook the Necromancer from the medieval age, and Kottr the cyborg tiger from the future. Franky also loves to experiment with all kinds of herbs and cursed objects for fun which can lead to some... Uh... Interesting situations in the home such as becoming haunted with the genie cat Yamanu. Ah yes... Haunted. Of course, a classic addition to an old Victorian home. Yamanu is utterly infatuated with Franky but a bit of a menace in the home to other residents and visitors, yikes! But Arvin always has his charms and ways.

Together, their relationship would blossom and grow into something strong and unbreaking between them, as Arvin helps his mistress and partner to sort her home (and her hang-overs..) as well as accompany her onward in her miraculous discovery with magic and time-travel and testing her absolutely-not-risky-at-all potion concoctions, all while doing his chores like a good lad... It was the beginning of a fantastic relationship, and journey of all things strange and unusual, that's for sure... ADVENTURE ABOUND!!

4. Arvin's Familiars

Arvin has two familiars, Koomi and Yami. They are demon snails he has acquired in different ways, both of them hailing from the lands within the hyper realm, or ultra-reality. Although this environment would be hellish and volatile to any human entity or similar creature, the snails are right at home as this is their native world and existence. They possess unfathomable abilities and power, but outside the hyper realm their power is a bit more constrained by the rules and logistics of the world of current residence.. Still, they can certainly display a terrible kind of dark force and magic.

Neither is stronger than the other, but both have specific talents. Koomi has the capability of duplicity, memory exchange or amnesia, fertility, carnality, and legacy. Yami has the power of illusions and lucid dreaming, inducing horror and nightmares, bending the perception of reality, granting 'wishes' or contracts that exchange power, mind-control, and persuasion. They use these talents to either improve upon and feed their own power, or to manipulate the will of others to accomplish their own wicked goals and desires. Sometimes for pleasure, sometimes for sustenance, as taking life extends upon their own. But being demons, they do relish with delight in the suffering or terror they inflict on mortal creatures. They are ultimately not to be trusted...

But what of Arvin? Well..

By chance or luck, one could guess... Koomi feels affectionate and drawn towards Arvin, wanting nothing more than to possess him as their own. By what means and nature for a demon is a mystery, as Koomi doesn't seem inclined to kill Arvin or make him suffer too greatly, choosing to keep him alive. even if just barely. Yami also has a unique relationship with him. Yami is every curious and hungry for knowledge, and thrives off of Arvins innate wanderlust to unravel secrets or discover new things. Yami thinks of Arvin as a mortal utility this way, caring less about his psychological wellbeing, feelings or anything for that matter. But much like Koomi, Yami keeps Arvin alive, even if just barely. He sometimes gives into his devilish nature and feeds off of his fear, or induces a terror state for Arvin enough to give him more power when needed, but he never goes too far that would drive him into a permanent psychosis or beyond madness... Tempting as it would be. Arvin also has a mysterious connection the Olde Gods that intrigues Yami, wanting to know and find out more, and more importantly; why?

Koomi and Arvin met the first time in his fugue state, after making an escape of near death that had him rolling down a rocky slope, banging his body and head against rocks and ending unconscious at the edge of a small creek... Koomi leapt into his psyche from the ultra-reality, being that Arvin has this connection, the bridge was an easy one to cross this way as he lay at the edge of mortality with a concussion. Koomi decidedly felt attracted to Arvin and revived him selfishly as his own plaything, forming an emotional contract with Arvin as his will was weak. Arvin obeyed without question and survived death, but he could never shake the memory of this terrible 'dream' he had. How frightening, large and cruel the demon looked. How he gazed at him with wicked intent and a feral crazed grin on that 'mask' it wore... He knew it wanted to own and control him, yet Arvin did not resist.

As for Yami, well... They met more conventionally at the overlap of spaces, Yami noticing his partnership with Koomi and thus insisting to agree in accompanying them both. He did not intiate a formal contract as Koomi did, but that wasn't necessary either. Koomi was not bothered, so long as Yami did not seek to take his toy away from him. Yami already knew this and wasn't interested in testing his ferociousness this way. He simply wanted to bare witness and join the excursions of these two, being alone in limbo was boring afterall.

When Arvin is in the realm of the ultra-reality, the snails offer both a protection and act as guides that assist him in safely navigating this space.

To some degree, Arvin could sense, and understood their evil, yet he could not resist their command of his will. Even though he sometimes felt afraid, he also felt strangely safer with these snails at his side... Having no idea what they were actually capable of.. Then again, neither did they of Arvin. Isn't that the fun of it after all?

5. The Fool's Journey

A surreal, impressionistic and experimental art outlet with Arvin stepping in and out of a crazy world (the hyper-reality). This part is linked to the next part The Dreaming World. Based mainly in just pictures and illustrations that are a combined sequential story that represent this tale. By it's very nature, it is an on-going project. I may try to chronologically compile the artworks for this in it's own folder sometime in the future... The story has a great emphasis of spirit, loss and love, exploring human experience with altered perceptions of reality.

Arvin goes on an adventure that seems almost imaginary and dream-like. Things happening without much explanation, and the existence of the impossible-to-imagine of all forms, especially the residents here... Residents? Or are they actors? The world whereas set has unique designs and figuration of product. Stand-alone buildings, buildings made in wicked or gnarly shapes, flesh and living buildings. The presence of multiple rifts allowing all kinds of spectrum to wash over, creating bizarre colour effects to everything... Some places appear like a stage play or auditorium. It is a labyrinth of the mind and soul, knowing no end to the vastness of mystery that lives here.

With each step forward is another act on the story of the Fool's Journey, following the path and adopting the lessons or character of each Major Arcana along the way. Arvin must make his way into the unknown over and over again and find what there is to uncover within, using his Understanding and Skills to guide and protect himself.

A lot of Arvin's fantastic and jester-ey, mime and circus outfits are created for this project. Each one representing different characters or reflect the feel of the Arcana in each chapter. Some of his outfits are named after certain characters in stories or poetry, especially Harlequinade: Harelquin, Pierriot, Columbine, Cassandre, and Pantaloon. He sometimes plays the characters Coyote, Raven, Owl, and the trickster-creator Wisakedjak.

Svey is uniquely encountered in this tale, along with many of his other lovers and friends. The snails are also present.

Arvin can also play instruments and sing here! I'm a sucker for musicals~

6. The Dreaming World

This next segment is part of a more personal journey and exploration in Arvins purpose for me, the artist.

Arvin's spiritual origin is a complex one. Everything that is happening and existing within these worlds, their alter universes, these characters and creatures - are all part of the larger consciousness of a sleeping Giant. A product of its deep and endless love, longing and imagination for life. A Creator being that fell in love with the inner worlds, wanting them to remain real and tangible to him and the wealth of emotions and feelings, the freedom that comes with living this way.

The Arvin that interacts with all the characters of these worlds is a smaller persona of the greater being that sleeps. At times of its brief awakening, a sort of 'Ragnarok' occurs, an ending and thus new beginning for some things, and some people. A 'starting over' and a new era of sleep begins. This persona always exists, even if it doesn't always remember every lifetime in the series of dreamings. Arvin does feel a deep and persistent connection to things or people with no apparent reason aside an inner heart ache, connecting and bonding him with familiar faces over lifetimes. These special bonds are an important gift from the mind of Arvin the Giant, as they are significant enough to remember in his waking moments, to dream again of them.

As the dreams continue and expand, change and grow, only some are forgotten, sometimes on purpose. Sometimes even the nightmares can happen and create great catastrophe for Arvin and his current affairs or friends... Maybe that's really why Koomi and Yami decided to stay? Do they really know about any of this, or just pretend like they do?... Do they only exist because of the dream too? How could they know then? What a great mystery...

The first, the Dreaming World and start of it all began after the Great Spirit made the stewards and spirits, the God-beings and Giants, the planets, stars and other celestial bodies they would use, mold, shape and manipulate to become the arenas and zones for their next plans and ideas. The endless imagination and curiosity of these beings of the firsts, Arvin the Giant existed among them. He took his mold, the tiny body of dirts and rocks. crushed it into many pieces within his hands to the smallest finest grains of sands that sparkled as it poured between his fingers. After tilling and raking with his hands, he gazed happily upon it, the warmth becoming an idea, the sun.. His first creation, the second is the moon, partner to the sun so they would never be alone, and enjoying a game of chase between these lovers was their favourite. Arvin spun a special wheel of seasons for them and called the path 'time'. From there, the path would create many roads of possibilities, forever following time.

Arvin the Giant and his big heart, was the beginning.
He was a friend to the Void and within the comfort of ever-darkness together, gave life and light from the inside, and protected it by the shell of the slumber.
