Muonnek is a daydreamer who lives on the moon. He didn't always live there, but when he was a pup, he made a wish on a star every night to leave his home on Earth to go live somewhere among the stars. He was frequenly sick as a child, and his family rarely let him get outside and see the world, for fear he'd catch an illness. He wished so much that the moon granted his wish and let him fly away to her.

The moon welcomed Muonnek as her own son and let him play for hours in the craters under the starlight. When Muonnek grew up, he became tired of having fun all day and wanted to work. The moon gave him a job making mooncakes with magical properties to give out to good children during the annual Lunayan Lunar Festival that the city of Lunaya hosted.

Going to the festival every year was the one day Muonnek could see the rest of the world. He marveled at the beautiful paper lanterns and the confetti and the fireworks and the music and dancing. It made him wish he hadn't come to live on the moon, but still, he loved the moon as his mother. And the moon wished she could let him have the life he wanted, but she was lonely up in space before he came along.
