About

Personality

Lenz is quite a boastful one, being fully aware of her skills with firearms, she is always more than ready to show off, but deep down she’s more than willing to throw away her pride if it’s for the safety of her friends. Despite everything, Lenz is surprisingly friendly and approachable, even to strangers. One thing she makes clear is that she prefers fighting over killing, often sparing enemies for the sake of ‘styling on them’ a second time. However, when genuinely angered she will present her target of interest with every reason to fear her, as stubbornness is one of her strongest traits. Being sincere, Lenz is always willing to sit down and have an honest chat and a few drinks with her friends. Even when it comes to taunting opponents, she’d never mock them on a personal level, always giving credit where credit is due and even praising those who outplay her.

Abilities

Lenz has arguably the simplest ability of all, light focusing. The eyes of wielders inherently glow when using their powers; it is not something that can be hidden unless the ability itself involves full concealment. Lenz's ability however, would be the glow itself, as her eyes shine extraordinarily bright. She has complete control over this glow, able to focus it into a long-range beam that only requires split second eye contact to blind someone. She can also maximise the brightness of her shine to essentially flashbang an entire room in an instant…or the opposite, dim her eyes to have them serve as a flashlight of sorts, which can prove to be very helpful in many scenarios.

Backstory

Lenz was born in Devon, a county in southwest England. Her mother was a teacher while her father was an operator in the Special Air Service. She would not face any major problems in her childhood years and looked up to her father who would occasionally take her on hunting trips once she got old enough. This became a hobby of hers, leading to her fascination with firearms.

She would eventually follow in her father's footsteps, enrolling in the British Royal Marines at the age of 17, where she ended up serving until age 22, having been honourably discharged at the rank of Corporal once the Red War had ended. The war itself had left a major impact on Lenz, having made and lost many friends in her time of service. Only three other members from her group had made it through the war; Deax, Vilster, and Alise who wasn't even a soldier to begin with.

It was one mission however that would leave a permanent effect on her, the only one she had failed. She had believed that in the unlikely scenario where she was unable to complete her assignments, she'd simply be killed in action. This was not the case; one night while patrolling with Deax they were captured by enemy soldiers and taken to a shack hidden in the woods. Here she was subjected to interrogation tactics standard of the time, however when she refused to cooperate they took to a more personal method. Knowing her proficiency and pride with weapons, the soldiers took their brightest of flashlights and forced her to stare directly at them for lengthy periods at a time, damaging her retinas and reducing her vision to a quarter of what it used to be to ensure she would never hit anything for the rest of her life. This ended up being exactly what awakened her ability for the first time, permanently blinding her tormenters with a sudden flash out of nowhere. Despite her fear and confusion, Lenz was aware that it had somehow been her doing and took the opportunity to escape with Deax, later being found by a search team looking for them. She would spend the next few weeks out of combat, blindfolded as her eyes recovered. Eager to return to the frontlines, she waited and waited for the day that she could finally take the blindfold off, only to be told that the damage to her eyes were permanent and that though she could still see with an aid, she was no longer fit for service. This left Lenz completely shattered, and she ended up having to sit out on the rest of the war.

In that time, four of her squad mates were killed, with one of their bodies never recovered. Alise, the girl who sliced Lenz’s mouth while she was trying to calm her, Deax, one of the only friends she had who survived, and Vilster, the squad leader that she respected….all of them disappeared and lost contact with her. Despite everything she had been through, she carried on, encouraging her fellow comrades, even if from the confines of a bed in a makeshift tent. All she got was a medal.

Lenz would eventually grow disillusioned with her life post-war, trying to live peacefully after she moved to the USA. She attained glasses, which for the most part negated the damage to her eyes, and a more proper education but despite this, she eventually grew depressed after just a month of leaving the military, destroying her motivation to do anything. Her friends were gone, her eyes were spoiled, and nothing she did was going to reverse anything. In time, Lenz realised that despite all the suffering war had put her through, she still missed the one thing she couldn’t get from anywhere else: thrill. Sure, she could have fun, doing mostly anything she wanted as a civilian but it felt hollow, as if there wasn't any purpose to her actions.

Then she had an epiphany, she still had her military-honed combat skills, she still had her glasses which were the only things restoring her sight, and she still had the two revolvers that were given to her during the war. These guns would be a lot easier to handle than a rifle, and most importantly easier to use with without her glasses hindering her aim. Not to mention that there were plenty of people that deserved to be shot, even out of war. The pieces were there, she just needed to put them together.

And she did, eventually joining up as an agent of the organisation known as the Core to utilise her skills once more. Taking contracts and earning money, she regained her sense of purpose while the ability to choose her targets was heaven to her. Only she would be putting herself in danger, no one else, so she needn't limit herself to take others’ safety into account. After a year of hard work and climbing up the ranks of the Core, a chance encounter would lead to her to reuniting with her old friends, Deax and Alise, who had partnered up with a strange mute Russian named Dashinix. Throughout the next year, their friendship blossomed and eventually Dashinix would become close with Lenz as the two bonded over their flaws. With the four now living together she couldn't be more satisfied with what she had. One fateful day her mind would be changed as she spotted a contract with the name Kuragi Collins on it. Having heard all about the dangerous assassin's reputation, she immediately snatched it up, not for the money, but for herself. With that, she put on her coat, strapped on her revolvers, and set out to the predicted location of this stranger.

Now this would be an excellent fight.

Relations

Deax

A close friend that she respects, they first met under similar circumstances in their times of military service, with Deax being drafted and Lenz willingly signing up to serve her country. The two would form an extremely effective duo during the Red War, even through their capture. In her eyes it was a trial that the both had surpassed, and the connection would last longer than any war ever could. With the two reuniting once the war ended, they get up to all sorts of mischief again.

Nehmir

Initially believing that he was an absolute lunatic when he first asked to literally “borrow her eyes”, she would eventually somehow fall in love with this lovely being. He was admittedly handsome, had a unique charm to him and genuinely seemed passionate about his work, a sentiment they both shared. If anybody were to somehow harm this ridiculously powerful angel, she would shoot all their limbs off, burn their eyes with a blinding glow, and then crucify them. In that order.

Kuragi

With just a simple duel Lenz was unable to bring herself to finish Kuragi and made the choice to help fake her death instead. Since then, a rivalry would grow into an unbreakable bond; she even grew to look up to Kuragi as there was quite a difference in how they went about their missions. She sees Kuragi as an amazing buddy to have, talking about anything and of course getting into all sorts of trouble.

Dashinix

She had trouble communicating with Dashinix at first considering how she is mute, yet she felt a connection that needed no explanation. They worked amazingly well together when time called for action no matter how ridiculous the scenario. Eventually, Dashinix would receive her mask which allowed her to speak, and Lenz honestly could not have been happier for her.

Lilith

She first met Lilith while she was attempting to date her using Kuragi's stolen body. She quickly called this out and got her to show her true self, before proceeding to have a heartfelt conversation about how she should be more confident in herself instead of using another. Since then, they became good friends, drinking together and just chatting, especially whenever she teases Lilith about her past actions just to see the funny reaction.

Barbas

She honestly believed that he was just a right proper twat, but she started to reconsider after all the times he had come to help her friends whenever they got into trouble, even if only out of duty. She eventually grows to respect him at the very least, finding it funny that Dashinix is the only one that gets an exception to his rude behaviour.

Trivia
  • Lenz's guns are two of a kind; everything was custom made, down to the shape of the hammer
  • Her glove collection is worth thousands of dollars
  • She is an extremely proficient marksman, often preferring iron sights to scopes, though that's mostly due to scopes being more uncomfortable to aim down with glasses
  • She got her scar during the Red War when she first met Alise
  • She once shot Kuragi for ordering a cheeseless cheeseburger
