Iro
As a reincarnated hero, Kuro and his compatriates have stopped aging at their primes. His pitch black eyes are not strange in Japan so he does not stand out.
Master Swordsman
Kuro's sharp katana and measured demeanor make it easy to mistake him for a samurai, but he knows every dirty trick in the book. He can switch fluidly between more straight-forward styles and chaotic ones easily.
Control Specialist
Kuro once made a bet with Aka and they switched primary fighting styles; before that he used shuriken, kunai, and other small tricks to control the battlefield from a distance. He is still proficient in most ranged weapons but rarely uses them.
About
Kuro is polite, practical, and strategic in both war and peace. He dreams of fostering an environment in his clan where his subordinates can operate smoothly and cooperatively but he often fails in his attempts to act in their best interests. Too smart for his own good, he gets caught up in his own schemes and makes things more complicated than necessary. His actions are confusing, immoral, and have disasterous side effects, but he ultimately wants the best for his clan and country.
The Hundred Clans Era
Takasuke was a child of the Kōmori clan, one of a hundred animal-totemed clans that hid themselves from the mainland and worshipped Lord Crow in exclusivity. This society sadly met its downfall at the hands of the warlord Eki, who stole the power of the gods to oppress humanity. Lord Crow urged the clans to send their most formidable heroes to defeat Eki but ran their souls ragged in her distress and caused the exhausted souls of the clans to die out completely. Takasuke and his companions, known as the Iro, made it as far as Eki's castle gates before they fell.
Kuro of the Iro
He was reborn as Keimaru, the unfavored third son of powerful warlord Tokugawa Ieyasu and his wife's handmaiden. A younger twin, he was given over to his maternal grandfather's temple and raised in relative peace. He did not feel connected to the modern era and trained himself in the sword until he encountered his reincarnated rival Aka. They were able to regroup with the rest of their comrades and, with fresh bodies and new resources, defeated Eki once and for all.
The Rainbow Era
Having accomplished their foremost goal, the Iro were asked by the deities to settle down somewhere they could not wield undue influence. As reincarnated people, they had been blessed and ordinary people would be helpless to fight against them. They moved to a remote corner of Shikoku and declared themselves the sovereign nation of Niji, staying entirely out of any affairs outside their small borders. After founding the Kuro clan, Keimaru took on the title of Kuro as his sole name. He became active and vocal in the administration of both his clan and the country at large, advocating for aggressive isolationism while preemptively eliminating assumed threats. This eventually resulted in him murdering Chairo, his own comrade, and Niji was once again engulfed in unrest. He was also involved in multiple inter-clan wars with the Aka clan. Kuro was diagnosed with tuberculosis and left his clan to wander, inadvertantly cursing the Iro in the process, but was ultimately dragged home by his heir, Akio.
Links
Aka [ rival ]
Aka and Kuro have been at each other's throats since the day they met. Kuro admires her prowess and ferocity but she gets in the way of his plans and provokes him until he loses his cool. If only she thought before acting maybe everything wouldn't be so difficult. At this point, dispising her is a habit of his but he hasn't considered what he'd do with his life if she were missing from it.
Kin [ boss ]
Kin's been the leader of the Iro since he charmed his way into achieving a functionally cohesive party. Kuro respects his willingness to be the face and target of the group and reluctantly follows his orders even when they're ill-advised. However, that doesn't stop him from manipulating what information reaches Kin's ears to his own benefit.
Akio [ heir ]
Kuro's subordinate and heir. A ditiful and responsible young man who has the empathy Kuro tries so hard to approximate. Akio tells Kuro frankly that he's failed his clan and yet still cares enough about Kuro to search for a cure to his illness.
