Luka "Spiral" Polize

Luka, surprisingly enough, is a completely average human (other than the fact that their albinism makes them stand out and gives them trouble with their vision as well as incredibly sensitive skin). His upbringing was unfortunate, to say the least. His biological mother, knowing she would be unable to properly and safely take care of him as an infant due to some rough circumstances, gave him up to an orphanage so he could be raised with the care he deserved. Luka spent his first seven years at the orphanage, finding himself incredibly happy there with his caretakers as well as the other kids. During this time he discovered his identity as nonbinary and his love for fantasy! He would frequently fill notepads with doodles of magical creatures and stories he wrote. Though unfortunately, this childhood innocence and happiness would soon come to an end.

Luka was adopted into the Polize family a few months after he turned seven years old. His new adoptive parents, Maya and Alvaro Polize, adopted Luka in a quick fashion without really properly thinking out the time and care a child would require from them. Because of this, as the new parents struggled to provide for the family and make time for their kid, Luka found himself receiving less and less attention and care. It became worse over the years. It started with them occasionally missing dinner due to their work times, or forgetting to say good morning to Luka. But it gradually turned into barely any interaction or communication within the family, with Luka being forced to provide for himself and take care of himself on his own for the majority of his childhood. Luka is malnourished and has a bad habit of ignoring self care routines due to his problematic upbringing. When his parents weren't spending long hours working in an attempt to provide for and protect the family, they were arguing and drinking away their stress. Luka would witness this and assume they were doing it because they hated him and resented him. As such, over time, he grew more and more cold and bitter toward them, having frequent vengeful and violent thoughts about them for years to come.

Luka's escape from the household was through university, which he'd carefully worked and saved up for throughout the previous years through multiple part-time jobs he worked in the early 90s. He moved out into a dorm without even saying goodbye to the family that he'd grown incredibly bitter toward. At university, he met a young Armaan Price, immediately being charmed by Armaan's interest in magic and his irresistible charisma. Luka was most interested in types of magical practices and the beings that used said magic, while Armaan focused his time researching and taking classes for religious studies while practicing magic more as a hobby. As a team, they were practically unstoppable. After two years of taking college courses together, the two decided to drop out and continue their research on their own as they truly believed that as a team, they were smarter and faster than any of their authorities.

Now moved into a home of their own and studying on their own terms, their partnership would gradually unravel alongside their mental states. Luka would spiral (haha) further into escapism, relying on disappearing into a fantasy land in his head and blurring the line between make-believe and reality more and more over time. At the same time, Armaan was dealing with his own problems involving being hollowed out into a vessel for The Ones Above (read Armaan's page for more info) and was really beginning to lose himself. As the two struggled, so did their relationship with each other. After 4 years of dating and 1 more of being engaged, the two got into one last argument that resulted in the end of that relationship. Luka would leave the house the two were staying in and would never return.

In a blind fit of rage, as a last sort of "fuck you" to Armaan and everyone else Luka believed had wronged them, Luka burnt their old college campus to the ground, and successfully faked his death in the process. With his only company now being his unstable mental state, Luka became "Spiral", a silly persona (and a strange sort of coping mechanism) that he put up to portray himself as a goofy and friendly Light Entity, refusing to acknowledge any of his trauma or mistakes and instead masking it and attempting to run from it through this character of sorts. In his deranged state of mind, Spiral placed all of the blame for his problems onto his adoptive parents. Using his new reality-bending abilities, Spiral erased Alvaro and Maya Polize from the fabric of time and space, attempting to also erase and replace all of his memories of them. An unstable and lonely being, Spiral roamed around seeking entertainment through teasing and somewhat tormenting people (never to the point of actual torture or death, though. He just wants to see them panic and freak out because he thinks it's hilarious). It would only be through meeting Willa Mae Price and others that Luka would begin to accept his genuine self and heal from his trauma, properly recovering and improving as a person.

Outside of Athazagoraphobia canon, Luka now lives humbly in an apartment with his two equally aquatic boyfriends, Coda Hsiao and Sean O'Connor, and is on the road of recovery. His friendship with Willa Mae has only grown stronger and more familial with time. He doesn't often torment people anymore, instead spending time living an enjoyable domestic life. While not fully repaired from all of the horrible things he had to go through and witness, with some things being unfixable (like his now nonexistent parents and broken memories), he's significantly improved and finds himself to be genuinely happy where he is, not ever wanting to change it for the world.

However, within Athazagoraphobia canon, his fate may be something much, much different.
