You'll most likely know Joseph as "Tex" - what started as a childhood nickname became his codename for his work as a hitman. Tex is a hitman who works out of Palm Springs, mainly working across the Southwest. Viewed by others as being dangerous and cold-hearted killer (both by stories of his assassination skills + his sometimes intimidating appearance) and while it's true he's skilled at his job, his personality is a bit unexpected. Surprisingly friendly, and charismatic while remaining eccentric in style, yet naive and struggles with sarcasm and being manipulated, his good nature gets him into trouble.

He just happens to be good at his job (think: street smarts over book smarts) and is known throughout the criminal world for it. Outside of assassination work, Tex has also worked as a bodyguard for various clients and has long-lasting friendships and connections from his job.

Personality

At first impression, he can appear sort of mysterious or intimidating, showing a dark and troubled expression in deep thought. His true nature is that he's a friendly, outgoing guy, who tries to be on everyone's good side but in a genuine way - where it gets him into trouble sometimes, being too close to potential enemies or those planning on backstabbing him.

A large part of this is being on the Autism spectrum - he may show off a more rigid and intimidating appearance, but it doesn't necessarily reflect his mood. He's easily charismatic and loves to socialize, though his style of socializing is a bit unconventional and sometimes excessively flamboyant. He also struggles with some parts of it, like understanding sarcasm and taking things too literally. Tex also has issues with reading other people's emotions, facial expressions, and motives, as well as struggles with romantic and close relationships.

Besides being physically strong and skilled in hand-to-hand combat, he can charm his way out of most bad situations, which he prefers to do instead of resort to violence, if he's not paid to kill and all. His kind and often gullible nature, and attempts at trying to find the best in people gets him into trouble, since he's usually trying to make friends with the hitmen around him. Despite this, many people including his enemies find him so interesting, they keep him alive for the hell of it (and allows him to get away everytime...) (Just an important note on this - I am on the autism spectrum.)

sprite Tex was born in Palm Springs, California, but has moved around nearby desert cities (La Quinta and Palm Desert) before his parents settled in Palm Springs for good. Born to James M. Saldahna and Marisol Lynn, who both met in college in Texas. He was around cars at a young age due to his dad's interest in them and his work in auto repair, and has a lifelong interest in old classic cars. His mom is an incredibly smart Entomologist (she studies southwestern scorpion species), and loved teaching young Tex about desert insects. She happens to be a black coyote due to a mutation from coydog ancestry, which is why Tex has such unique coloration for a coyote. His parents were both autistic (with varying traits, his dad was way more outspoken and goofy while his mom was quiet and calm), and raised him well and loved him dearly. They began to struggle financially while Tex was in High School, which caused a lot of pressure on him to drop out (on top of being neurodivergent and struggling with a learning disability). Discovered by a mysterious man named Jack in a sleazy desert bar, Tex was pulled into the dark world of hitman work, training under him and other notorious hitmen, part of a hidden collective. By the time he was 30, he was skilled enough to work independently and began his own business, quickly becoming well known in the criminal world for his work, thanks to the training of Jack. With Tex's new earned wealth, he helped his parents, and continues to share his wealth anonymously with his community and those in need.

Currently...

Currently in the story, he regularly works works in the southwestern states, mainly in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and the Coachella Valley. He ends up being hired as a long term bodyguard for Fenrir, a business man who suffers from paranoia and believes he is in great danger after he moves to LA, where the two develop a unique "friendship", and hiring Charlie, a young truck driver burnt out from his work, as an assistant.

House

He mainly works out of his Palm Springs office - which is in his house. A flat, 2 bedroom midcentury house in the Vistas Las Palmas neighborhood, originally his childhood home - his parents moved back to his dads' family in Texas.

a typical coyote... tall ears, big teeth, scruffy style, sharp eyes

Just under six feet tall (give or take, I don't always have specific height for him.) Muscular body type, not skinny, he's musclefat dadbod.

While he has typical coyote traits of tall, triangular ear, pointy snout, and scruffy tail, he has rich, dark fur colors due to having a coydog grandfather, on his mom's side, passing down unique fur coloration / morph. He is still mainly coyote.

His hair is long, messy, with dark roots/sideburns. Uusally styled loosely back, with some product added. He will trim it shorter but it gets long fast, so it often looks uneven or even mullet-like. He always has some form of facial hair, most dense around his mustache area.

Canonically, he has hazel eyes (or stylized as partially brown, partially golden/green... I tend to draw eyes very mixed like that) I may draw them stylized as yellow or similar colors, carried over from his old design

He's self-conscious of his canine teeth, which stick out when he smiles, and his ears seem a bit too large. He gets affectionately nicknamed "Triangles" by Fenrir for his pointy-ness.

A typical outfit for him is a patterned, button shirt (of varioues colors and designs), with nice dress pants and dress shoes, maybe paired with a heavy work jacket for desert nights. This is his "work outfit", when dressing outside of jobs he's a bit more experimental.

He likes to be gender nonconforming, so he may style his hair more "feminine", wear some makeup, earrings, whatever he feels comfortable that day.

He has a unique resistance to high temperatures (105°F can feel like high 80s to him), and struggles with cold weather. This is sort of a "superpower" within the world.
