"Our common people - they believe nobles have it simple. Our noble title correlates to the amount of wealth and our history more valuable than others. But everyone struggles with something, be it different than others.

Sometimes I envy those who have freedom. Though with limited money, they find the littlest of things enjoyable. As much as I want to pursue happiness, I am afraid I have a job to do in this city."

Strengths

Zane has been raised to read people. He always reads between the lines and rarely gives into people's charm without finding out their intentions.

Well versed in politics, literature, and history. His years under the best tutors made him an educated man solely for diplomatic affairs.

He is the official head of the Zane household. The Zane family holds a high-esteemed title that belongs to Belvar's greater noble circle. This gives him a title, recognition, and money.

Caelan plays the violin and piano. He's also practiced different ballroom dances, specifically for social events he's been invited to. Since childhood, he's done whatever he could to upkeep a prim and proper image.

Flaws

Military isn't his strongest point. In fact, the Zane is considered the weakest house when it comes to militaristic power. But Cailan makes up for the lack of soldiers with his intellectual mindset in political affairs, but as well as being connected with many powerful individuals outside of the city.

Him being a noble his whole life, it may be hard for him to understand a common man's point of view. He tries to be as kind towards them as possible, without ruining his image with other nobles.

Skills & Abilities

Fencer's Pride
Aside from playing a few instruments or learning how to dance, he also knows how to fence. It's been a rather useful skill to have when he has to fend for himself - although he's nowhere as experienced than the veterans in the military. Everywhere he goes, he has a rapier by his side.

bookworm
Being well educated in Belvar means that you has access to a whole library to learn. Of course, the Zanes has the biggest collection of books in the city and it continues to grow. He spent his whole childhood in his house and rarely he left. And there were two places that he found peace: The garden and the library. He recalls all forms of literature, but the books also opens his mindset to the world outside of Belvar, especially the culture in Cathal.

Doppleganger
As much as he doesn't want to be mistaken as his brother, they are identical twins. They get along quite well, and thus whenever he's in a particular predicament - he'll ask his brother Culus to take his place while he attends to other things. People would wonder as to how Zane manages to attend to so many different events in a single day...

Caelan is quite proficient, but even he finds it rather hard to participate in so many parties at once to appease other nobles.

Insomniac
Not sure if this considered good, but Caelan stays awake for days and would still have as much energy to work after a quick one-hour nap. Constant paperwork and inviting guests to his home - he has little to no time to rest. Thankfully makeup exists to remove the dark circles under his eyes.

Trivia

  • Despite he is the official patriarch of the Zane, he shares this power with his twin brother, Culus.
    > All diplomatic and political work still goes to him, while his brother helps him through other beneficial factors.
    > Paperwork is usually for Caelan, socializing is for Culus.
  • He gets along with almost all of the houses in Belvar's Noble circle. Except for one.
    > His family has always clashed with the Alabasters. Although, not so many people get along with him anyways.
  • His hair was originally black, but because he was tired of people mistaking him for Culus he decided to dye his hair color to dark blue.
    > People still mistake him for Culus still. But he is at fault because Caelan rarely leaves the office while many often see his twin brother instead.
  • If he gets the free time, he will sleep.
    > It's almost impossible for people to wake him up.
    > Even his servants that try to physically wake him; he will not budge. The less-experienced servants that work in the manor would be scared that he would never wake up.
    > Whenever there is a sense of danger, he will wake up instantly. Whether it be someone watching him, or someone alerting him.
  • Has no spouse. He's rather unlucky with all the potential wives that he was supposed to match with.
    > That being said, many of the women he were to elope with, would end up running away because Caelan is too serious, their lack of commitment causing them to run away with another man, or they're just not interested in marriage. Zane is too kind to marry them against their will and often lets them go.
  • Out of all the nobles, the Zane seems to be the only one who truly cares about the betterment of Belvar. All the other nobles only remain to upkeep their noble title and their financial or military power.
    > All the money they would accumulate often goes to charity or restoring landmarks and buildings.
    > Even during city meetings, only the Zanes seem interested in listening to the common man's proposals. Unfortunately he gets outvoted by the other houses.
  • Whenever he gets the time, he personally wants to get to know all of his servants. Caelan wants to make sure that they trust one another.
    > He treats them well, he rewards them for their hard work. Especially when their servants are struggling, he'll provide as much as he can give to them to help them recover. Or sometimes he'll listen.
    > Drama in the house? He'll be one of the first to know and figure out how to ease tensions. Any troublemakers won't be spared.
    > Mistakes are okay and Caelan spares his servants. He personally lectures them but there is really no other negative consequences.
  • All of his servants are almost aggressive when it comes to taking care of his health. Mostly because Caelan works so much that he never focuses on his health.

Summary

They were expecting one child, but the world gifted them a wonderful pair of boys.

However, they were unsure as to who the title of Patriarch will be given to. So, since birth, his parents raised the both of them as equally. Not until his beloved brother Culus found out about the realization of being a leader - he grew scared of representing his people. Caelan, though terrified at the thought when he was a child, he didn't want him to stress through it. He asked his parents if he could take the reins on behalf of his brother.

Caelan because of his decision, rarely took a day off in his studies, his classes, practicing, and attending parties. His brother felt bad every time he chose to stay home to work when he had any opportunity to enjoy his childhood. So, he would occasionally ask Caelan to allow him to attend events in his place. Since then, they've worked together in secret until their parents' passing.

After their death, they've opened up their cooperation more to their servants. Despite it was Caelan being the official Zane Patriarch, he's been sharing the work with his twin brother. And because of Caelan rarely leaving his office, the public sometimes forgets that he exists.

The Heroes of Belvar

His family worked alongside with another powerful family, the Bastions. And through their friendship, he meets a rather fine young boy named Lucien. This was around the time both Caelan and Culus was secretly changing places, but the Bastion child was the first person to see through their plans. And when he discovered the truth, Lucien never spoke a word to anyone. Instead he wanted to be remain friends together with the twins in exchange for keeping their plans a secret.

They continued on being nobles for years, making a name for themselves for their family. Not until they were teenagers, an unfortunate event happened - regarding the Bastions. Their house and family burnt to ashes from unforeseen accidents; only left with Lucien to be the only one to survive.

"No one wants a noble child with no family," said his parents.

But Caelan demanded that they take Lucien no matter what the circumstances of his title. They took Lucien under the Zane's care, personally requested by the twins themselves. His family didn't want to risk adopting Bastion because of useless title, so they really had very little choice and had him work under the twins as their personal butler. It wasn't long for everyone to forget the Bastion house, let alone if there was any survivors in the tragedy.

Through these years, Lucien never complained about it. Caelan only views Bastion as a valuable servant but an even closer friend. Whatever Lucien wanted, Zane provided as his friend. Though, he rarely asked for anything in his lifetime in servitude. But when an old friend of the Bastions came back, Lucien had desired to be by his side and the Zanes ended up dismissing the butlers from his duties so that he could follow Belvedere as he please.
Not long before Lucien married Jayce and changed his last name. And even if he did marry, he still worked under the inventor as his assistant, if not his butler. But Caelan never complained - as long as he was happy.

It felt like his work became harder without Lucien's help. But he never predicted that someone had been waiting for Lucien to finally leave the Zane and let their plans commence. Ever since Bastion left the house, he became a target wide open to the Alabasters. An attempted assassination on Caelan had only made him disappear for his own safety, and soon followed Culus when he was being hunted down. Thankfully both Lucien and his friend stopped the attack before Culus came into harm. Because of Alabaster's schemes and military prowess, they had little power to fight back against him. Instead they simply waited and hid in the shadows - supporting the Heroes of Belvar as the best as they could.

And when the civil war ended and inner tumoil was put to a stop, it was the twins that brought the Duke back to Belvar once again. Because of the Bastion's bloodline being directly related to the royal family, it was decided that Grimbald handed over the title of Duke to Lucien.

Caelan laughed. Because his reign only lasted for a week. Most definitely not because he was a bad leader, but Bastion complained that leadership wasn't something he never wanted. In fact, no one knew of the outcome after expelling Alabaster out of Belvar. No one knew of Lucien's background or how he was their short-time duke. Instead the Duke title was shared between the Zanes and Grimbald.

Relationships

Culus Zane

[ Twin Brother ]

The more sociable and free-spirited twin brother that he shares his title with. Though their personalities contrasted, they don't look down at each other and constantly think of themselves as equals. And without one another, their work would only come tumbling down. He feels blessed to share his life with him, despite his perversed nature and habits he does outside of the home.

...It's only sometimes that he finds his brother annoying. Solely because he constantly pokes at him for his habits and lack of hobbies. Whenever you find Caelan outside of his work, it's probably because Culus dragged him out there so he could enjoy life for once.

Lucien

[ Close Friend ]

Caelan and Culus grew up alongside Lucien when he had a prestigious home that would eventually belong to him. But since the fire, Lucien lost his whole family and the twins only wanted to help Bastion as much as they could. It was Caelan's idea that they take him in as his servant, and Lucien remained his butler for years. And throughout those years, Lucien's gratefulness returned nothing but loyalty, kindness and support. Caelan wishes to help bring Lucien's noble title back but everytime he offers - he respectfully refuses and wishes to remain a butler for the rest of his life.

During the inner Belvarian turmoil, he's watched Lucien from the shadows all through when he was bestowed the title of "Duke of Belvar." Now it was Caelan feeling grateful for Lucien's hardwork, especially when he's almost lost his life a couple of time, only to make sure that Caelan was safe. When the Last Bastion handed over his job as Duke to the Zanes (partially), he swore to Lucien that he will work even harder to maintain a prosperous city under his rule.

Count Alabaster [WIP]

[ Rival ]

It was the twins' goals to befriend all of the houses in the Noble Circle. Unfortunately out of all of the families, the only one that they've failed to be in good terms with was the fearless and dominant Alabaster family. According to Caelan, it wasn't the family itself but their patriarch that made things harder to cooperate. And since that realization, Caelan now only watches the Count closely, in hopes that he can prevent any of his tyrannical schemes. And since his first assassination attempt, Zane was able to foresee most of Alabaster's plans and hid himself for his own and the house's safety.

Alphonse

[ Ally ]

To keep the Zane as one of the powerful nobles in the city, he needed to maintain good relationships both inside and outside of Belvar. In this case, he did whatever he could to befriend those in Cathal and it eventually led his way to making friends with Grimbald - the very responsible Duke of Belvar himself. Despite they do get along, Alphonse's very busy schedule prevents the Zanes from communicating with him... even in the most drastic emergencies.

Count Veilleux

[ Ally ]

Again, the Zane aren't known for their military prowess. And for anyone to rival Alabaster's army, it would be the Belvarian guardsmen. The Guardsmen are personally commanded by Count Veilleux, who is the Patriarch of his own family that also has their noble title set in the Noble Circle. He's good friends with Henri, despite being a vampire - whose race are quite known to look down on humans constantly.
