"Now now. Don't think that I'm the kind of man who lacks ambition and cares little about society! I truly care about my home; I simply work differently than my brother. We have different views on many things, but to think that I'm only holding my Caelan down... is absurd.

It's my fault that he decided to trap himself in a cage. That's why I'm there to open the door every once in a while."

Likes
  • Sleeping (with other people)
  • Watching Caelan enjoy himself (outside of work).
  • (Surprisingly enough) Reading.
Dislikes
  • Having to do Caelan's job (paperwork, mostly).
  • Having to dress up (typically just wears a dress shirt and trousers often, that's about it, anything more than that makes him feel uncomfortable).

Strengths

Like his brother, he's been raised to know how to read people. However, his purpose of doing it is different and uses his skill to give what people desire.

Not necessarily a politics person, but he is still educated to understand it.

He may not be the head of the Zane household, but he still shares the workload and respectfully Caelan gives him the share. The Zane family holds a high-esteemed title that belongs to Belvar's greater noble circle. This gives him a title, recognition, and money.

Culus plays the cello and piano. He's well versed and experienced in all kinds of dances from all different kingdoms. Culus is a natural in the social circle and it's like he's meant to be the spotlight of every event he attends to.

Flaws

Military isn't his strongest point. In fact, the Zane is considered the weakest house when it comes to militaristic power. But Cailan makes up for the lack of soldiers with his intellectual mindset in political affairs, but as well as being connected with many powerful individuals outside of the city.

He's incredibly immoral and thinks very little when it comes to love. He can't maintain a decent romantic relationship and most of his free activities usually involve sexual engagement. He actually uses sex to maintain a proper alliance with other noble homes... not that Caelan knows about that.

Skills & Abilities

Fencer's Pride
Aside from playing a few instruments or learning how to dance, he also knows how to fence. It's been a rather useful skill to have when he has to fend for himself - although he's nowhere as experienced than the veterans in the military. Culus doesn't bring a rapier by his side like Caelan, but he still knows how to defend himself regardless if he has a weapon of not.

(Secretive) bookworm
All Culus ever wanted to do when he was a child was to spend time with his twin brother. And where would his brother be most of the time? In their library, studying and learning just about anything he needed to know as the future Patriarch.
And the more time he spent with his brother in the Library, the books began growing onto Culus. Despite the lack of prim and proper, he reads just about as much as Caelan.

Doppleganger
As much as he doesn't want to be mistaken as his brother, they are identical twins. They get along quite well, and thus whenever he's in a particular predicament - he'll ask his brother Caelan to take his place while he attends to other things. People would wonder as to how Zane manages to attend to so many different events in a single day...

Culus is proficient in many things, but even he finds it rather hard to participate in so many parties at once to appease other nobles.

(He thinks) Virility is a skill [NSFW]
I don't really need to explain it. He's just good at doing what he likes to do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Trivia

  • He's not the official leader of the Zane household, but he does as much and equal work as his brother.
    > All diplomatic and political work still goes to him, while his brother helps him through other beneficial factors.
    > Basically: Paperwork is usually for Caelan, socializing is for Culus.
  • Gets along with almost all of the houses in Belvar's Noble circle. Except for one.
    > His family has always clashed with the Alabasters. Although, not so many people get along with him anyways.
  • His hair was originally black, but because he was tired of people mistaking him for Caelan he decided to change his hair color to purple..
    > Because Culus socializes with so many people, not many realize that Culus has a brother. Sometimes people think that he and Caelan are the same person.
  • Owns a brothel. He visits it fairly often - typically on his free days and when Caelan is too busy handling other affairs (which is very likely)
    > Remains close to all of the people there. Both employee and patrons.
    > He treats his employees like family, or at least puts so much care and affection to them.
  • Has no spouse. Because of his demeanor and habits, no one could really tame him.
    > The amount of time he's cheated on the women that his parents or brother set up? He can't count it all.
    > (Thanks to highly advanced magic in Cathal) It's impossible for him to impregnate anyone unless he has a mage reverse the effects applied onto him.
  • Out of all the nobles, the Zane seems to be the only one who truly cares about the betterment of Belvar. All the other nobles only remain to upkeep their noble title and their financial or military power.
    > All the money they would accumulate often goes to charity or restoring landmarks and buildings.
    > Even during city meetings, only the Zanes seem interested in listening to the common man's proposals. Unfortunately he gets outvoted by the other houses.
  • Whenever he gets the time, he personally wants to get to know all of his servants. Culus wants to make sure that they trust one another.
    > He treats them well, he rewards them for their hard work. Especially when their servants are struggling, he'll provide as much as he can give to them to help them recover. Or sometimes he'll listen. Sometimes he'll appease them.
    > Drama in the house? He's going to be the first to know. This man loves juicy gossip.
  • It was because of Culus's dreadful threats to the servants, that made them seem much more caring about Caelan's health and wellbeing. Culus, especially, knows that his twin brother almost never takes care of himself.

Summary

They were expecting one child, but the world gifted them a wonderful pair of boys.

However, they were unsure as to who the title of Patriarch will be given to. So, since birth, his parents raised the both of them as equally. But Culus was scared to take responsibilities of taking over their parents' roles. Caelan, who seem affected by Culus's fear - ended up takiing the reins for his sake.

Caelan because of his decision, rarely took a day off in his studies, his classes, practicing, and attending parties. His brother felt bad every time he chose to stay home to work when he had any opportunity to enjoy his childhood. So, he would occasionally ask Caelan to allow him to attend events in his place. Since then, they've worked together in secret until their parents' passing.

After their death, they've opened up their cooperation more to their servants. Despite it was Caelan being the official Zane Patriarch, he's been sharing the work with his twin brother. And because of Caelan rarely leaving his office, the public sometimes forgets that he exists while Culus is one to represent him on his stead. It's very often that many think that both Caelan and Culus are one being.

The Heroes of Belvar

His family worked alongside with another powerful family, the Bastions. And through their friendship, he meets a rather fine young boy named Lucien. This was around the time both Caelan and Culus was secretly changing places, but the Bastion child was the first person to see through their plans. And when he discovered the truth, Lucien never spoke a word to anyone. Instead he wanted to be remain friends together with the twins in exchange for keeping their plans a secret.

They continued on being nobles for years, making a name for themselves for their family. Not until they were teenagers, an unfortunate event happened - regarding the Bastions. Their house and family burnt to ashes from unforeseen accidents; only left with Lucien to be the only one to survive.

"No one wants a noble child with no family," said his parents.

But Caelan demanded that they take Lucien no matter what the circumstances of his title. And Culus being a dear friend to Lucien, he also followed suit. They took Lucien under the Zane's care, personally requested by the twins themselves. His family didn't want to risk adopting Bastion because of useless title, so they really had very little choice and had him work under the twins as their personal butler. It wasn't long for everyone to forget the Bastion house, let alone if there was any survivors in the tragedy.

Through these years, Lucien never complained about it. Culus never saw Lucien as a servant, and only as a friend and an equal. Whatever Lucien wanted, Zane provided as his friend. Though, he rarely asked for anything in his lifetime in servitude. But when an old friend of the Bastions came back, Lucien had desired to be by his side and the Zanes ended up dismissing the butlers from his duties so that he could follow Belvedere as he please.
Not long before Lucien married Jayce and changed his last name. And even if he did marry, he still worked under the inventor as his assistant, if not his butler. Culus was beyond happy that he found the happiness he achieved.

It felt like his work became harder without Lucien's help. But he never predicted that someone had been waiting for Lucien to finally leave the Zane and let their plans commence. Ever since Bastion left the house, he became a target wide open to the Alabasters. An attempted assassination on Caelan had only made him disappear for his own safety, and soon followed Culus when he was being hunted down. Thankfully both Lucien and his friend stopped the attack before Culus came into harm. Because of Alabaster's schemes and military prowess, they had little power to fight back against him. Instead they simply waited and hid in the shadows - supporting the Heroes of Belvar as the best as they could.

And when the civil war ended and inner tumoil was put to a stop, it was the twins that brought the Duke back to Belvar once again. Because of the Bastion's bloodline being directly related to the royal family, it was decided that Grimbald handed over the title of Duke to Lucien.

Culus did expect it. Lucien spent most of his life as a servant much longer than he was a nobleman. Because his reign only lasted for a week. Most definitely not because he was a bad leader, but Bastion complained that leadership wasn't something he never wanted. In fact, no one knew of the outcome after expelling Alabaster out of Belvar. No one knew of Lucien's background or how he was their short-time duke. Instead the Duke title was shared between the Zanes and Grimbald.

Relationships

Caelan Zane

[ Twin Brother ]

He was nothing like his twin in personality; he was more reserved and serious. If it wasn't for Caelan, for sure Culus would be suffering in a busy life of a typical high-class noble. Because of Caelan, he was able to enjoy his life... but he didn't want to leave Caelan trapped in his house like that. Culus, instead, wanted to share the burden together.

He only wished that Caelan could enjoy himself more instead of locking himself away in his office - reading and writing papers and letters, or having professional and proper dinner with some noble couple who came by to talk about politics. So occasionally he'll literally drag his brother out to take him to something nice. Like the park, or a club.... or even the brothel (that his Caelan despises).

Lucien

[ Close Friend ]

Caelan and Culus grew up alongside Lucien when he had a prestigious home that would eventually belong to him. But since the fire, Lucien lost his whole family and the twins only wanted to help Bastion as much as they could. It was Caelan's idea that they take him in as his servant, and Lucien remained his butler for years. And throughout those years, Lucien's gratefulness returned nothing but loyalty, kindness and support. Culus had checked up on Lucien, and he always urges Bastion to follow his desires and dreams. He knew that being a nobleman was the last thing he wanted - and he supported him all the way to the end.

During the inner Belvarian turmoil, he and his brother watched Lucien from the shadows all through when he was bestowed the title of "Duke of Belvar." Now it was Culus feeling grateful for Lucien's hardwork, especially when he's almost lost his life a couple of time, only to make sure that Caelan was safe. When the Last Bastion handed over his job as Duke to the Zanes (partially), he swore to Lucien that he will work even harder to maintain a prosperous city under his rule.

Count Alabaster [WIP]

[ Rival ]

It was the twins' goals to befriend all of the houses in the Noble Circle. Unfortunately out of all of the families, the only one that they've failed to be in good terms with was the fearless and dominant Alabaster family. According to Culus, it wasn't the family itself but their patriarch that made things harder to cooperate. No matter how many times he's tried to become intimate with Alabastar, he shows no interest (for Culus, it was very surprising). And since his first assassination attempt, Zane was able to foresee most of Alabaster's plans and hid himself for his own and the house's safety.

On a sidenote, Culus likes to make fun of him behind his back. He foolishly calls him "Alabastard" fairly often.

Alphonse

[ Ally ]

To keep the Zane as one of the powerful nobles in the city, he needed to maintain good relationships both inside and outside of Belvar. In this case, he did whatever he could to befriend those in Cathal and it eventually led his way to making friends with Grimbald - the very responsible Duke of Belvar himself. Despite they do get along, Alphonse's very busy schedule prevents the Zanes from communicating with him... even in the most drastic emergencies.

Count Veilleux

[ Ally ]

Again, the Zane aren't known for their military prowess. And for anyone to rival Alabaster's army, it would be the Belvarian guardsmen. The Guardsmen are personally commanded by Count Veilleux, who is the Patriarch of his own family that also has their noble title set in the Noble Circle. He's good friends with Henri (both inside and outside of his private quarters), despite being a vampire - whose race are quite known to look down on humans constantly.
