"Welcome to Belvar. It is a wonderful city. If you came to live here, then I hope that it treats you well.

Me? Well this is where I was born, I only hope I live here forever.

It may have mistreated me many years ago but I don't believe there is no other place that I can call home. The people are charming and the future for Belvar will become prosperous soon. It will rise into a wonderful city for those that feel like they don't belong anywhere else. We open our arms to new people.

I want to live throughout this small age of peace until death. Although, I don't think such peace will last so long. I fear a storm emerging..."

Strengths

Lucien doesn't want to fight (but it doesn't mean he can't), but he knows how to talk his way out of a conflict.

Him being a butler/steward for years has its perks, but his partner being an inventor puts most of his skills with his hands. He knows how to fix and fiddle things, and his hands are as deft and sturdy.

If anyone knows gossip, it's possibly Lucien. He also is historian himself, not only regarding past Belvarian events, but also the secrets the city holds.

Lucien's not necessarily a fan, but he's quite sneaky. Eavesdropping is what he's good at, and he keeps all the juicy intel in his head.

Flaws

Blind on his left eye; grey on one eye while the right eye is light blue. Unfortunately he can't necessary see on his left side, but he finds himself sensing on said side.

Again, he's not a fighter. Hence his physical prowess nor his speed isn't so good.

Skills & Abilities

A bastion's Intuition
Lucien does not rely on his intuition so often, as his own family does the same. Like his parents, Lucien trusts his intuition and every time its right. He's not sure if it's a gift given by gods or it runs in the family, but he calls it the Bastion Intuition - such things has helped save his life in several events.

Impoverished artistocracy
Not many know about Lucien's background, especially him being the only son of the once powerful house in Belvar. He may serve as a servant, but he can read between the lines between two noblemen: their deals, their schemes and the possible underlying goals they hold. Although a butler remains a butler, he's more than willing to attend to minor diplomatic affairs for his master.

A hidden path
Him being a historian also allows him to discover the secrets and different parts of a home, most likely he's studied the architecture of the houses within the noble circle. And rumors always has it's benefits. His keen senses and intuitions gives him knack of finding secret pathways and hidden rooms that not even the servants know about!

Side Tinkering
His newest master, and husband is an inventor at heart. It's normal for Lucien to partake in one of his projects to help him, or just simply watch him work. This comes with a benefit of being able to understand how machines work... and perhaps he knows how to bring machinery back to like... or just break it down. Although he is quite good at fixing watches.

City Dweller
Aside from houses, the butler also understand the layout of the city overall. Him being a butler, he has to find the quickest routes to get to... anywhere! Consider Lucien your tour guide, because he knows every landmark, every attraction, every store and market that appears in the city.

He makes friends with all classes of the social ladder. From counts to beggars, he's gotta know at least one to get information needed. Consider him a popular informant among Belvar, because he's got information  about things that's more dangerous than you've expect.

Trivia

  • This was one of my first precious OCs. I was really active with him in Gaia lol. I was also obsessed with butlers at the time.
  • Lucien, is in fact, married. He's married to his current master, the head of the Belvedere household.
    > His name is Jayce. He's wasn't born in Belvar but he's been a friend to the Bastion family before he went off to travel. It wasn't until he came back to live in one of the manors that Lucien realized that he's fallen in love.
    > Despite working for the Belvedere household, he's very much willing to do favors for the Zane household - obligated that they were the one to take him in and treat him well.
  • Despite being an aristocrat, he spent most of his life in servitude.
    > He is still considered a nobleman, but he has no interest in upholding his noble title.
    > No servant or middle-class people know that Lucien is a noble, in fact only the older generation of the high-class nobility know of the last Bastion.
  • Regarding to the "Last Bastion," the nobles knows about the "treasure" that the Bastions withheld that gives them the power to rule all of Belvar.
    > However, the Bastions may be powerful, but they were never selfish enough to use the treasure to rule over the city. Even Lucien, doesn't wish to rule the city under one person.
    > Said treasure is simply just proof that the Bastions are indeed part of an outer branch of the Royal bloodline of Cathal.
  • Loves eating chocolate. Allergic to vanilla.
    > Consuming a mild amount vanilla will make him bedridden for a day or two. The smallest amount of vanilla is very much okay, but he cannot eat anything more than just a teaspoon.
  • Has a large collection of pocket watches.
    > Always switches to different ones everyday before he leaves his room.
  • His hobbies consist of taking care of roses in the garden, and collecting pocket watches.
  • Although he earns enough funds from being a butler, he also repairs clocks/watches for the extra bit.
  • He doesn't rely on it so often, but his instinct/intuition always turn out right.
    > He's won a few lotteries but all that income goes to his husband's projects.
    > Anyone who knows him, they always listen to him.

Summary

"You could even say... I was a perfect child."

Lucien was a precious son and heir to the Bastion household - one of the most powerful houses among all of Belvar. Many say that the family is very much the greatest. A child prodigy at his finest, he was well off being popular with all nobles who lived in the city. He was a single child, therefore his life was already planned for him by his father; meaning that there were already plans for Lucien to marry, take over businesses, but more importantly:

Take leadership of all of Belvar.

Of course, young Lucien was inexperienced. He was too much of a child to understand the amount of power that the Bastion had been fighting for to claim the rights to the city. Yet, his parents believed that Lucien wouldn't have a problem if he continues to walk the path they planned for him.

+++

Before he even reached to his teenage years, a supposed accident occurred in the household. Whether it was planned or not, the Bastion house fell to its end as a tragic housefire had put everything to ruins. Both Lucien's parents, relatives, and servants that lived in the main house suffered in the flames that drowned their screams that scarred Lucien for a majority of his life. Everyone, except for the last remaining Bastion, had died - leaving Lucien practically nothing for him to take and homeless.
Out of pity, the second most powerful home (a friend to the Bastion house) had taken in Lucien. Unfortunately many nobles believed that his talents prove to do nothing if he had no title; the young Bastion was practically useless. Yet, the Zane family was generous enough to take the young man in as a servant-in-training until he capable enough to become their butler. Lucien practically had no other options, and he refused to let his life die at this point.

He found himself working for the Zane family for years and older Lucien planned that he'd continue to serve them for his whole life. Not until he met a powerful aristocrat that entered Belvar; he practically fell in love with him with each and every encounter they had.

Lucien, not only committing himself to servitude, he seemed to commit to a life of love. Bastion left the Zane household to serve his new master and renamed himself Lucien Belvedere.

The Heroes of Belvar

Not many know of Lucien's background. And many other people believed that all of the Bastions had died off. The "Last Bastion" was very much a myth in Belvar. Especially when Lucien married, his last name changed and his old family name remained hidden within him and the Counts of the Zane household. Although, Lucien himself didn't know how important he was as the "Last Bastion."

He was close friends with Calian and Culus, the current heads of the Zane household but Lucien becomes worrisome after Azrael finds himself fending off two assassins who came for Culus's head. He rushed to help Cagliostro, wondering could possibly be the reason why they were coming after his friends.

He's met both Jack and Algernon, partners that sought to rid of any corrupted mages that deserve only but death. But to Belvedere's knowledge, Culus was no mage. It took him quite a bit to persuade the two that he was neither a mage or corrupted. And after the interception and saving Culus from potential death, it wasn't long before the two of them came into contact with the butler - wondering about the whereabouts of their kidnapped children.
Even Lucien, knew very little of the situation. But nobleman Calian had only but ideas that one of the houses in the Noble circle was commencing their plans of overtaking the city. It was rather worrisome to see that the plans were unknown, and anyone who opposed the Alabaster family has no idea what the next step would be.

Eventually the underlying goal of the Alabaster family was not only overtaking Belvar, but claiming control of the rumored "Last Bastion" who is the last of their line to have information regarding a treasure that they needed to take total control of the city, without the rule of the Viscount Grimbald of the Cathal kingdom. The treasure, was simply the underlying proof and item that gives them the permit to take full control. Lucien, rather unsure of this "treasure" that his parents were hiding, he found out that the fire of his home wasn't at all an accident. Instead Bastion was rather angry and immediately put down Alabaster, using whatever his noble title power to permit him - to remove the Count from his seat and his noble title.

History says that one of the brothers of the Royal family, a year after the Vampiric war, was given opportunity to rule Belvar after their victory. Though he took this to become a Duke of Belvar but his life was shortlived and his family hindered and the bloodline strayed rather far from the royal family of Cathal. It was when after his death, Alphonse Grimbald took the title of duke temporarily (until someone from the Royal family decides to take claim of the title). However, the bloodline continued to be recorded in secrecy behind the knowledge of the main family, and thus hidden from the long-living duke. The only knowledge of these records were handed and hidden well by the Bastions. Lucien, being the last one of his family, to keep this information and even knew the whereabouts of the physical papers that had said proof. Relaying this to Grimbald, it was official that Lucien would have the right to take the title as Duke and rule the Belvar under one single ruler.

Bastion, despite having the opportunity only used this power to rid of Alabaster's noble title and expelled him from his city. His family was spared at the least.

However, Lucien never had any intentions of ruling the city. In fact, his duty to rule the city ended with his house was burnt to a crisp when he was a young man. After Alabaster's expulsion, he handed the title of Duke to both Grimbald and the Zane, making them both co-rulers of the city.

And since then, Lucien withdrew back to his butler duties under the Belvedere household. Happily married to his husband Jayce, he merely spends his time living in Belvar for the rest of his life. ...Or he hopes that it will be.

Relationships

Jayce

[ Husband / Master ]

Jayce has been a friend to the family, especially when Lucien was a young boy. However, he's left one day and Bastion never expected him to come back years later... after the tragedy of his family. When Belvedere came back, he had decided to settle in Belvar and not long Lucien ended up progressing such feelings for this man. It was hard, for Bastion to be busy working under the Zane all while wanting to spend time with Jayce - eventually the man offered his hand in marriage for Lucien and also took him in as his committed partner, butler, and occasionally assistant.

Azrael

[ Friend ]

Cagliostro was an odd man, but nonetheless he was a beloved friend to have. They love their home of Belvar equally. They met each other not long after he became a butler of the Zane. At first Azrael was there to flirt with Bastion, but he's given up as soon as he realized that the butler had little to no interest in pursuing such roguish romance.
But Azrael was there by his side when the inner political turmoil was coming to light, especially when Lucien didn't necessarily want to fight - he had Cagliostro defending his body in case things went violent. After Alabaster's fall, he rarely sees Azrael - considering he finds himself as the city's Underruler among the middle and poor class. But as a friend, he supports his efforts greatly.

Revere

[ Acquaintance ]

Lucien wasn't expecting him, a man as luxurious as Revere, to waste his time on a lowly butler like him. But Revere claimed that Lucien's company was much more tolerable than "all of the people in Belvar." Perhaps that Lucien never said much against Reverence's words, and would rather agree to him. Otherwise he would have the tip of the duelist's blade at his throat, and clearly... Belvedere had no interest in getting in that type of situation.

Jack

[ Ally ]

Lucien knew of Jack, especially visiting his tailor a couple of times to pick up any clothing repairs for his master(s). However, he didn't expect that Mr. Worthing... was a relentless mercenary who had a compelling hatred towards mages. It was him and Azrael that stopped Jack and his partner from killing his former master Culus, and it was the two of them that joined their endeavor of stopping Count Alabaster from ruling the city.

Algernon

[ Ally ]

Algernon is a wonderful gentleman, and a talented jewelrymaker. He's Jack's longtime partner and he too shares the same hatred towards mages. Lucien, gladly is no mage, because Algy is more direct than Jack and he can feel Algernon's stare from a mile away. Regardless, he's visited Moncrieff's business a couple of time to pick up a few jewelry for his masters, but sometimes he personally comes to the store to as for Algernon to help restore a few pocket watches.

Calian and Culus Zane

[ Friends ]

After the death of his parents and fall of his household, Calian and Culus was more than willing to take Lucien under them to earn a second chance in life. However, the best they could offer is giving Bastion a position as a butler, but he was more than willing to take it. And for years he's served under the Zane household until he met Belvedere - who took his hand in marriage and even took Lucien as his butler. Even after that, Lucien feels obligated to help both Counts if they needed any help. The two of them remained to be important figures in the butler's life.
After the fall of Alabaster, he trusted the Zanes to lead Belvar. Handing the title of Duke to them, the Counts upheld their promise to Lucien and remained diligent as wonderful leading figures to the city. And not to mention, these two are indebt to Lucien and would gladly help him if he was in trouble.

Alabaster [WIP]

[ Enemy ]

Bastion considered him as cruel and vain, especially behind that handsome face of his. Alabaster craves for constant power and used his militaristic power to try and rule the city, threatening a civil war just to claim Belvar as his own. However, Alabaster also spent decades on the search for proof of the Bastion bloodline, so he could be able to claim the title of Duke. Unfortunately his plan backfired and Alabaster was outcasted by both Lucien and Grimbald. This was his consequences, especially when he was the cause of the fire that killed Lucien's parents.
