Ash was born and lived their whole life in Night City, in Watson. They never got to know their mother, as she died during the labor. Their father never accepted this fact and blamed Ash for her death ever since they were a toddler, neglecting them as a result.

Around the age of 12, Ash realised that the gender they were born with does not really fit them. The changes that started to appear because of the adolescence felt more scary than exciting, and they tried to hide them as best as they could. While trying to let their father know about how they feel, they only made it worse. He completely ignored what Ash told him. As Ash grew and managed to get their own money from fixing electronics or hacking, they managed to get themselves proper clothes and a binder, which was the most important item they wanted to buy. When they finally chose themselves a name that was more fitting, their father continued to deadname them and never use their new name. It is something that still haunts them to this day and Ash believes that nothing will change their father's attitude.

Ash's father was very strict and very abusive towards them - he used every reason to scream at them or beat them up. Eventually, Ash started to fight back, which resulted in them being thrown out from home a few times, or intentionally running away. They always came back, though, as they had nowhere else to go. They had to deal with anger outbursts and demons in their head alone, with no proper help or support from anyone. They didn't want to get hurt by anyone else, so they started to get suspicious about every new relation and push people away.

Eventually, once Ash finished high school, they managed to catch apprenticeship at Viktor Vector's clinic in Watson. They felt as if it was a chance for them to finally get their life together and move on, and repay for all the mistakes they made in their life by saving lives. It wasn't so bright, though; the apprenticeship didn't pay enough for them to rent even the smallest flat possible around Watson, so they had to continue living with their father. Around that time, when they talked out things with Viktor, they managed to start transitioning and got their first HRT shots. Ash finally felt happy and understood, as Viktor never questioned their decision and accepted them just as they were. Because of that, they grew attached to him and became overly jealous, which was another side effect of their mental illnesses. Though, Ash did their best to not openly show their jealousy, worried that it might scare people away, and suffered through their episodes in silence.

During his apprenticeship he managed to meet a few friends, including V whom they treat as their older brother, and eventually, the love of their life - Carr. Their life finally started to turn the right way, though, it was still hard to live with a personality disorder amongst other people. Now, Ash continues the apprenticeship and wants to become a ripperdoc, while still doing some side gigs as a hacker or technician. They devote all their strength and time to it while working on their mental wellbeing. It isn't so bright all the time, though; their mental health is very unstable and even a small thing might trigger them and spiral down. They try to not give up and still move forward, no matter the circumstances.
