Located in the heart of the bustling city, Central Inkopolis is a hub for sea life of all ages. It is here where one will find a good deal of the city's youth--hanging out, going to school, engaging in turf wars... you name it! Central Inkopolis is known for its iconic hangout spots, such as Inkopolis Square and Inkopolis Plaza. The Great Zapfish is located in this district, along with the two towers that are often rather popular spots to organize squad battles.
A very urban area located East of Central Inkopolis, East Inkopolis is a somewhat troubled district. Though individuals from this district are by no means the inherently "bad apples" that those from preppier districts may label them as, the area is one frequently plagued by poverty and gang violence. Much of the district is diced up, and considered the 'territory' of various, separate gangs -- though there are safer, less dangerous areas scattered throughout, and not every group seeks to intimidate or antagonize those unaffiliated with them. The housing is surprisingly affordable here, too, which draws the attention of young individuals eager to turn over a new leaf within the sprawling city. A very active urban art scene has taken a distinct shape in the area over the years.
A flourishing and relatively wealthy district, Downtown Inkopolis is a hub for development, technology, and business. Chock full of highrises and company buildings, the area is always bustling, be it night or day--a city that never sleeps. Located here is the up-and-coming technological juggernaut, Eden Enterprises, run by eccentric visionary Grey Shimizu, along with various other multi-billion-dollar companies. The business world is dog-eat-dog here, and there isn't a good deal of housing in this district, save for the ever-growing highrise apartments that tend to cost a fortune; yet, even so, the population in the area continues to grow exponentially.
Located quite a ways outside of Inkopolis, Calamari County is a rural area in the countryside. While populated, there isn't much crowding to be had, and indeed, it's the perfect place to go when you need a bit of fresh air. There is a high elderly population here, what with a majority of youth and middle-aged, working-class individuals having moved to the city for independence and better opportunities, and many areas have a historic, traditional air to them.
Sitting atop the sprawling underground cities below, Octo Valley is the threshold that lies between Inklings and Octolings, and includes a rather small portion of surface territory that the Octarians have managed to keep for themselves. In the past, what we now consider Octo Valley was actually quite a bit larger, encompassing other areas such as Bluefin Depot; however, over time, it has experienced a drastic reduction in size as the industrialization of Inklings continues to push inward. With a rapidly shrinking territory, Octarians here tend to be very protective of their turf, to the point of being inherently suspicious of individuals they don't recognize. Inklings in particular are liable to be treated as hostiles by default, leaving intruders with little opportunity to explain themselves. One can't exactly blame the Octarians for such behavior, though... After all, this place is one of the few bastions of safety they have left on the surface, and what few resources make their way to here are valuable.
Due to its small size and potentially vulnerable position, not many Octarians actually live in Octo Valley permanently. Those who reside on the surface in Octarian territory are most often stationed to protect the area, as well as escort those who may need to relocate to other domes, though exceptions do exist.
After having been forced to abandon the surface after the Great Turf War, a majority of the Octarian race now resides in The Underground. With scarce resources, alongside serious problems with toxic waste and a lack of substantial electricity, The Underground has become a rather dreary, hopeless place--leading many to flee to the surface once again for a better life, after over a hundred years of their society being stuck below ground. However, there are still some who remain loyal to their beloved leader, Octavio, refusing to leave the Underground--while others are simply incapable of leaving for one reason or another.
