Calder and Mari’s relationship is odd, to say the least. Calder views Mari as the sensible one of the group. Her suggestions are always in favour of their own lives and their public image. That being said, as much as he agrees with her suggestions even he can see she takes things too far. She’s too hard to read, but seeing how valuable of an asset she’s been over the years he lets her odd behaviours slide to keep the peace.
One of Bur’s closest friends. Perhaps his second closest after Curtana. At this point the two consider each other family. With everything they’d done to help each other in the downfall of Rasterahz they’ve formed a deep respect for each other. Cairo gave Bur his freedom, and until the group found his original body he’d also given his an immense amount of power to aid him in his quest. In return, Bur helped free Cairo from the shackles keeping him under control of the Demon Lords who’d captured him. They both gave each other freedom, and they’re both thankful for it.
To put it bluntly, Spades doesn’t care much for Dewey. She’s never cared much for animals in general, but Dewey is worse. Not only do they have all the worst qualities of an animal, but they also have the worst qualities of a demon. They’re the worst of both worlds, and the only reason Spades puts up with their antics is because if she doesn’t Klaus will get pissed.
Spades’ only real “friend” and current partner. The start of their relationship was rocky, but things have smoothed out over the years. It’s less of an active romantic relationship and more of a “we’re stuck together, so we might as well” type of deal. That being said, their relationship is by no means perfect. Far from it, actually. Fennel’s constant self harm and paranoid ramblings tend to annoy Spades, and she’s gotten fed up with it to the point she’ll snap at her whenever she starts doing either. Still, on the off chance Fennel’s having a good day she enjoys being around someone who isn’t either a complete idiot or evil and self centered
Ariston was one of the people directly responsible for Cairo’s ascension to godhood. Like many people, he only met Cairo because of his younger brother. But unlike other people, because of his godhood Ariston and Cairo have made an effort to stay in contact with each other. Their personalities heavily conflict with each other, and Cairo’s closest ally is one of Ariston’s enemies, but the two are able to remain civil because of their shared friendship with Bur. Both hold him very close, and neither of them want to piss him off by causing any trouble.
Cutrana isn’t sure how to feel about Ariston. He never got all that close to him during their adventure, and nowadays they only really interact because he’s Bur’s brother and he and Bur are a couple. He’s never been a fan of Ariston’s lack of filter and he doesn’t really appreciate his little jokes about his relationship. Still, he doesn’t hate Ariston. He’s just not the kind of person he’d choose to hand around if given the chance.
While Ariston isn’t exactly close with Curtana, the two don’t dislike each other. They only really interact when Bur is involved, as he and Curtana are a couple after all. Occasionally Ariston finds it entertaining to poke fun at the relationship he has with his brother, but it's all in good fun. If it weren’t for that connection, though, the two probably would have never met nor stayed in contact afterwards.
Bur’s older brother and dear friend. While he can’t remember too much of his past, he did regain the memory of Ariston saving his life from Rasterahz. Sure, Ariston also wound up helping Ras kill him and steal his soul, but Bur was able to forgive him for it. With everything Ras had done to manipulate the both of him Bur knew for a fact he never would have dreamed of doing such a horrid thing on his own. After learning of their blood relation and Bur helping free Ariston from the Afterlife the two have been making an effort to stay in contact, although it can be a bit awkward at times. They’re still figuring out the whole siblings thing.
Ariston’s younger brother and close friend. In their early years Ariston absolutely loathed Vesstan. He was his whipping boy, after all. Of course, 600 years is enough time to change anyone. Not only can neither of them remember their past firsthand, but Bur himself was the key to opening the rift that’d eventually free Ariston from the afterlife. Ever since then, and after learning about their past relationship, Ariston has been trying to keep in close contact with his long lost brother. They get along quite well nowadays, although the major time gap can make things a bit awkward at times. They still try, at least, which is more than most people could ask for when it comes to a sibling relationship.
An odd relationship to say the least. Even after everything that happened between them Bur still views Magnus as a dear friend. Without him he never would have escaped the museum. That being said, he does tread lightly around him. Magnus has made it clear he dislikes Bur, and the fact he’s dating his son isn’t helping. Bur tries to avoid Magnus as much as he can, but given how family oriented Curtana is the two inevitably end up in the same room together. He at least tries to stay in line and not anger Magnus as much as he can with the hopes of one day forming an actual friendship with him.
Bur’s best friend and current relationship. While the circumstances they met in were unorthodox, Bur and Curtana very quickly became close due to their shared interests. Both of them had a love for the art of sword fighting and they both were natural born adventurers. It was a match made in heaven from the very start. Bur taught Curtana the art of the blade, and Curtana taught Bur the art of being alive. The two are inseparable, for better or worse. If it weren’t for Curtana Bur would have never had a reason not to join Rasterahz in his efforts to take over Mirror Domain, after all.
Bur is Curtana’s closest friend and first love. They very quickly bonded over their plethora of similarities and things only spiraled from there. Bur is the first person outside of his family to have ever put Curtana’s wellbeing above their own, and Curtana was deeply touched by that. They’re a perfect match. The perfect adventuring pair.
Family is family, and while he may not have given Curtana any real help in his time of need he does appreciate the advice he was given. Due to his largely sheltered upbringing Curtana simply can’t see the flaws in his extended family. Family is family! Family sticks together through thick and thin! As far as Curtana is concerned his uncle tries his best and is just down on his luck. Plus, whenever Rowan is around he’s allowed to do things he wouldn’t be allowed to otherwise, so that’s always a plus.
Curtana’s grandmother. He never got to meet his grandparents on his mothers side, so he’s glad to have at least one living one to go and visit. Ninrelle has always been nice to him, at least in his perspective. In reality he’s too naive to understand all her backhanded comments and overall disapproval of his actions. He really likes visiting his grandmother's house because it’s just like the museum, except you’re able to actually interact with the exhibits.
Curtana is absolutely terrified of his grandfather. Not because he’s done anything to hurt him, but rather because Terrell is currently in one of Tritox’s high security prisons and he hates going there. The place is scary! It’s where they keep all of Trixot’s worst criminals! He hasn’t really gotten to know his grandfather because he’s far too scared to visit.
Curtana’s mother. The two have always gotten along extremely well. When Curtana was younger she’d often read him her poetry whenever he was feeling down. Some of his most cherished memories of his childhood are reading books with his mother in her office. She’s always been a lot more accepting and open than his father, but at the same time she’s equally as protective over him. That being said, he does take after his mother quite a lot. His hyperactivity undoubtedly came from her side of the family, as she’s just as excitable as he is.
Curtana’s father. He’s always loved his father, but he can’t help but feel smothered at times. His father has always been a bit too overprotective and as a result Curtana was sheltered for a good portion of his life. Still, he can look past that. Magnus is the one who opened his eyes to the wonders of history and all the stories of the past valiant heroes. He’s a lot like his father in that sense.
A co-worker and regular client. Roy has an odd infatuation with Malcom, viewing her as a being made in his image due to his delusions. While she finds this a bit unnerving, Roy is for the most part entertaining. Listening to him ramble on and on about being a god and listening to his judgements on the world can be fun at times. Plus, they seem to have similar views on criminal justice and things of the like. That, and he’s incredibly naive. If Malcom ever needs anything she can usually convince Roy to get it for her.
Klaus and Spades’ relationship is strictly professional. He finds her addictions to be detrimental to his operation, causing some resentment. Her tendency to steal money and product from the crew is also a major issue. If it weren’t for her luck and her ability to negotiate, he would have killed her by now. She’s also extremely good with numbers; something Klaus doesn’t want to deal with.
Spades is Klaus’ biggest source of irritation. She hates taking orders and often makes sudden changes in plans, if she doesn’t abandon them all together. She’s also extremely hard to manipulate, and has an ego almost as big as his own. They’re an unstoppable force vs an immovable object. If they didn’t share the same goals, they’d more or less be enemies.
Klaus and Spades relationship is more or less strictly professional. She can’t stand his personality, and she finds his use of drugs to be a major irritation. For someone in a position of power like he is, he should really be more responsible. You can’t get anything done in the midst of a hallucinogenic high, and she’s damn near positive one day it’ll end up getting him killed.
That being said, she does find Klaus at least somewhat entertaining. When he’s on a high she can get away with messing with him without getting in trouble for it. She also uses it as an excuse to “borrow” things from the crew’s storage he wouldn’t normally give her access to.
While he finds her constant state of panic and never ending stream of paranoia fueled conspiracies irritating, Klaus finds Fennel to be the most trustworthy and valuable member of his crew. When she’s actually calm, he enjoys her company. She’s smart, and a lot of the time she has really good ideas; although he’d never admit that. Half the time, he takes credit for Fennel’s ideas and makes her think he was the one to come up with them in the first place.
Because of Fennel’s various underlying mental issues, as well as her curse, Klaus has taken to threatening her in order to ensure her cooperation. She’s valuable. Without her, Klaus would lose half his client base. Maybe more. Fennel is very easy to manipulate, so getting her to stick around is easy. Still, he constantly exercises his control over her.
Dewey is treated less as a member of the crew and more as a pet. A very large, very stupid pet. Still, Dewey is extremely loyal. They follow Klaus’ orders to a tee, for better or worse. If Dewey does something “wrong”, Klaus knows it’s because he didn’t explain it correctly. Not that that prevents Klaus from yelling at Dewey for screwing up. He still needs to prove that he’s in control. Klaus never intended to make any sort of alliance with Dewey. Their partnership only got started because the Mirror Temple was in Dewey’s territory, and Klaus wanted it for himself.
