Hello all! It's been a hot minute since I hosted a gift exchange and the secret santa season is over so how about we do another? I'll be hosting this here and on deviantart so please read on: 

What: It's a head shot art exchange. Let's make another artist's day with some lovely art gifts! 

  • Most OCs accepted in this one. Original characters, fan characters, closed species all are welcome! HOWEVER, humanoid only! No ferals or fully  anthro (animal muzzles/beaks, ect) due to my and many of my watcher's lack of skill in this area! They must be your character, and no canon characters. 
  • There is no theme this time!
  • This exchange will run for a month and a half BUT make sure you have time to complete artwork in time before  joining. I recommend starting sooner than later to avoid running out of time.
  • If  you trade your character during the time of the exchange, you are still committed to finishing your half, so PLEASE do not include  characters you are considering trading, thanks.
  • You must watch me either here or on deviantart so that you see updates and I can easily contact you
  • ART REQUIREMENTS: Your art must be at least a shoulder up drawing, fully colored, no sketches (if  you work in grayscale only, please note me first before signing up and I will approve on a case by case basis on the merit of  completeness/shading/texture, ect, if you do not do this, your work will  be expected in color)  

Important Dates:

  • Sign ups: March 14th - 19th
  • Assignments sent out: March 20th/21st (please be patient as Nicky often has health challenges and may be a little slow).
  • Due date: DUE DATE is Monday May 8th last time zone This  gives everyone about one month and a half to complete their art so please  don't leave it to last minute.   

How we'll do it this time

  • New: I'll be hosting this both here on toyhouse and on deviantart ( https://www.deviantart.com/nickyflamingo/journal/Secret-Headshot-Exchange-2023-sign-ups-open-953673534 ). Please sign up either on DA or TH, whichever you would prefer for me to contact you on for notes/dms with your assignment and updates.
  • I can't update journals which I used to depend on to remind people of deadlines, any changes, ect. INSTEAD, I'll be adding everyone who signs up to a note mailing-list (or DM on on TH) and everyone will receive a couple periodic note reminders of the amount of time left on the exchange, if they have not completed theirs yet. In addition, I will use status updates to also remind, and also feature the most recent art that was done! I'll still be adding all the artwork to the main journal and bulletin hub though <3
  • If your character is hosted on Toyhouse and you are set to signed-in or authorize only, PLEASE make sure you provide a key in your comment so that your secret person can see it. Not everyone who signs up has toyhouse and/or may not be a close friend of yours.
  • When you finish your exchange piece please comment on the journal or bulletin that you have finished it so I know it has been finished. Please either note, DM, or respond to the person who signed up so they don't miss their gift! If your person/you don't have an account on the same website, let me know and I can deliver it for you. Sorry this is clunky but trying to include more people!
  • Otherwise, the format is the same. Everyone will get assigned someone to draw, and that person will draw for a third person, and so on. More info in rules

Rules/Information

  • PLEASE SEE CHARACTER AND ARTWORK GUIDELINES THE "WHAT" SECTION! 
  • THE BIG ONE: If you sign up, you are committing to finishing your part on time.    Everyone deserves a lovely gift, so make sure you're only signing up   if   you can finish yours <3 Consider blocking out time early for it  if you're a chronic procrastinator or have social engagements near the   end of the exchange. If you did not complete yours from the prior Exchange you may not sign up this time.     
  • You must be a watcher of mine either on DA or TH, as I will be updating with statuses in addition to the less frequent reminder notes. 
  • To  prove you read all this above and below and agree to everything, tell me your favorite fruit or berry.
  •  If there is someone you would prefer not to draw for or receive from that you see signed up, please note me BEFORE March 20th and I will accommodate your request. This is kept entirely confidential. Please send me this even if you have before because I     don't have my old list handy/don't know if there may be changes.   
  • This is a Secret Exchange, so if you have any questions about your assignment, please note me and I  will get an answer on your behalf. Also, DON'T spoil the surprise  with  livestreams or sharing WIPs, you never know who is watching/in discord/ect!    
  • I do try to mix everyone up so people get new partners each time but keep in mind I do need to  accommodate special requests for when folks just don't mesh (it happens!) and also if you've been in several exchanges I run and moderate, you may get repeats. Please always be kind to your artist, we're all doing our best and not everyone is at the same skill level.  <3    
  • All art must be your own.  No tracing, bases, or dollmakers please. Pixel art is allowed, however  bases MUST be your own, and credit must be given for any resources you use that are not yours. Absolutely no use of A/I generated images in part or in whole. If you use anything made in part or in whole by A/I generated images in your piece and I find out, you will be banned from any future exchanges. I do not support these images from a legal and ethical standpoint and this is not up for discussion. Thank you.
  • Art must be fully lined and colored (unless you reached out to me regarding grayscale artwork) and must be at least a bust/shoulder-up. No sketches. 
  • You may post your secret assignment as soon as you are finished!    Final deadline for posting is May 8th last time zone. If for  whatever reason you  cannot complete your assignment, please note me  IMMEDIATELY so that I may find a replacement. You may not be able to  join the next exchange unless it's an emergency (in hospital, ect)
  •  When you finish your exchange piece please comment on the journal or bulletin that you have finished it so I know it has been finished. Please either note, DM, or respond to the person who signed up so they don't miss their gift! If your person/you don't have an account on the same website, let me know and I can deliver it for you. Sorry this is clunky but trying to include more people!
  • When you receive your gift, please make sure to thank your artist.  Everyone worked hard to make sure everyone got a nice gift, it's  important to say thank you
  • And most importantly, HAVE FUN!!

Hello friends! I am opening one custom unicorn adopt to be started in March.  I am a slow designer so please be aware that I will work on this  between other things and also that you're getting a design made with  much care and love so that takes me getting ino a good designing  headspace. What you get if you win the auction: You  will get a CLOTHED custom FULL-SIZED Unicorn without a nude version.  This is a single full body off-base illustration produced in marker. It  will not be mailed.

  •  I will be using the time stamps on each site to determine who bid  first.   •  If you are outbid by someone/multiple people on the other site, I will  reply to that to let you know what the current highest bid is.

  •  For  this auction I will be allowing simple payment plans if the bidding  reaches $200 or more but you must mention in your bid you will need a  payment plan so I know what to expect. I will require 50% within 24  hours and the remaining 50% two weeks later. LF male fantasy characters (and others)

Hey all! I'm not feeling well and would like to acquire a couple to a few new pretties to make stories with or draw. I'm offering commissions for these, though I could also offer cash for something I super love. If you want art, please make sure you're read my Terms of Service to make sure you agree with it. You can comment below, in a TH DM, or send me a discord DM. I'm in bed a lot right now so please give me some time to reply but I will reply to everyone. Please let me know what you would like in return for your character (art type and amount or resell price). No customs at this time as I want to finish the WIPs I'm working on before taking any more on. 

Looking for:

- Handsome/pretty male (and masc enby) fantasy characters. I'm working on a silly little personal project that I'd like more pretty boys for. They can be muscular, heavier, slender, ect as long as they are clearly adults. Bonus if they have very pretty hair. I'm pro makeup on men. Handsome bastards welcome. I'd prefer full-body adopts with full proportions rather than chibis where possible. I'm not looking for closed species for this, but rather one-offs with these themes:

  • Japanese folklore (would love some males based on Yokai, ect) or historical dress
  • Non-armored fantasy-style males: humans, elves, fae, nagas, vampires, pretty demons, male fantasy witches/warlocks, whatever. No -taurs or anthro character though, please.
  • Kemonomimi of any species including fantasy ones like dragons. Modern looks okay for these.
  • Maybe space-themed but least interest on my list right now as I have a fantasy theme going.

- Any Dainty of any gender that isn't excluded by the "don't want" list below. Dainty MYOs also good.

- Always interested in looking at Pokemon trainers to add to my silly roster.

- interested in male Lockettes/Dexettes as well. No MYO slots as I have unused ones.

Things I don't want:

Most  of these are hard nos. Some are for my mental health and some  are just  things I have zero interest in drawing and/or owning.

  • #1  hard decline: ANYTHING medical, body horror, bloody theme.  Exposed bone/organs, missing organs, most missing body parts, nurses,  needles, pill, and medicine, even on non-human or non-living characters.  Also any drug-themed characters (including  marijuana). No judgement on  folks who enjoy these themes this is just  for my mental health. No characters with self harm themes.
  • Ferals and Anthro characters (Bamharr and Kamistune are fine). I just don't enjoy drawing them.
  • Tootheyes, parasite-based species, most tails are things species. Same as above.
  • Loli  (fetish, not the fashion)/Shota/any sexualized underaged designs and DO  NOT  offer me a character that has a description of tr*p or other trans  slur.  
  • Religious symbols including organized religion,  counterculture, pagan, ect. Example: cross, inverted crosses, pentagram.   I'm not anti any of these just not my taste in designs. Angels or demons are okay.
  • Often will pass if they have animal feet and hands (exception: Hooved feet, nagas, or mermaids)
  • Characters with super dark non-human skin colors as my marker and scanner combo tend to eat their details especially their faces. (for example 80% or more gray, or deep green, purple, and blue). Also bright red skin for same reason.
  • Heavily Armored and mech characters. Anything with  too many mechanical elements (though smooth sci-fi ie Mass Effect armor is fine).
  • I am NEVER interested in any AI-generated/assisted adopts or outfits as I find AI images to be ethically wrong.

I apologize for any offers I end up declining because they aren't fitting the (literal) fever dream in my head.

I'm working on my current commissions and trades, but looking ahead to my December commission offerings. I am opening my commissions through my website through the weekend. If you're interested, please submit a commission request via my contact page (links below). These commissions will not be started until December, so If you need them before  a certain date,  please mention that in your request (for example, if you are looking for Christmas commissions). I will be accepting around five  commissions at this time and will be selecting those I'm most interested  in working with. I  also wanted to mention that my terms of service have been updated to  include a clause regarding my declining commissions that involve a  character, outfit, or other element that was created via AI generated  images. This is due to the unethical nature of the data sets and other processes the AI image generators use to create images, as well as the  legal ambiguity surrounding them. Thank you for understanding.

Hello friends and Unicorn lovers! I always try to do something special near the end of the year for my Unicorn adopts (sometimes called Nickycorns), usually including a give-away of some sort. This year I’d like to foster the spirit of giving between others as well as giving out prizes myself. Read on to learn how YOU can brighten someone’s day and also enter to win a bite-sized Unicorn of your very own! But, before I dive into everything PLEASE remember this is in the spirit of fun and giving. DO NOT enter if you will be upset by not winning as I can only give out so many prizes. Only do what you feel up to and be a good sport. Thank you for helping me keep things fun and be motivated to host events, it means a lot.

What is the Nicky Unicorn Art Jam?

An art Jam is when several people are all making art on the same theme. Additionally, writers are welcome to join this too! (I will say “art” repeatedly here but that includes you, writers). I’m running this one on the theme of my Unicorns, with a twist that you can also win a Bite-sized custom of your own, or art by me (see prizes below). We are only drawing/writing for Unicorns designed by me, not random unicorns. At the bottom of the list there will be Unicorns people have volunteered to allow people to make art of (yay, gift art!). While I am including one of my personal ones I would prefer you try to draw/write for others first (or your own Unicorns if you own one) before considering mine because this is about you all, not me. I have however included one mine in case anyone doesn’t feel comfortable drawing/writing for a stranger and to make sure there is enough for writers to work with in case there are no other volunteers allowing writing. 

IN ADDITION, you get an entry for a raffle for an ACEO just for spreading the word even if you don’t draw or write. 

What will the winners get?

I will be making two winners a custom “bite-sized” Unicorn Like these: Bite-sized examples and two winners will receive ACEO artworks. You MAY win more than one prize but I will award the winners in this order before rolling the next:

  • Winner 1 CUSTOM PRIZE: The person with the most points at the end (per scoring) will get a custom bite-sized unicorn. 
  • Winner 2 CUSTOM PRIZE: Any person who makes an artwork/writing for this Jam of another person’s unicorn (that is not one of my personal unicorns) is entered into a raffle for a custom bite-sized unicorn custom (you only get 1 entry into this raffle regardless of how many gifts you make). Winner chosen via random number generator
  • Winner 3 ART PRIZE: Any person who makes an artwork/writing for this Jam of another person’s unicorn (that is not one of my personal unicorns)  is ALSO entered into a raffle for an ACEO of any character which I will mail to you (you only get 1 entry into this raffle regardless of how many gifts you make). Winner chosen via random number generator. 
  • Winner 4 ART PRIZE “Spread the Word”: Anyone who shares this journal/bulletin on Deviantart or Toyhouse will be entered to win an ACEO of any character which I will mail to you (you only get 1 entry into this raffle regardless of if you share this on both locations). Winner chosen via random number generator.

When will it run?

  • The art Jam starts on Sept 29th 2022 and runs through Dec 8th 2022 (extended from Dec 1st). That means you have two whole months to participate! 
  • I may need a few days afterwards to tally everything up and announce the winners so I will keep everyone informed as to the award date when we get closer (and allowing for the fact I have a history of being ill during the end of the year). This end date is subject to change if my health requires or if a small extension is warranted but let's aim for this date.
  • I will then work on the winner’s prizes within two-ish months <3

What you can enter with (see point scoring below):

  • Traditional artwork
  • Digital artwork
  • Pixels
  • Writing (you must check to see if the owner of the unicorn allows writing first before writing for them).
  • On-base work (though for reduced points)

What is NOT allowed?:

  • Anything made with AI, including backgrounds. 
  • Any extreme violence/gore (for my comfort), or x-rated stuff (to avoid having the contest journal/bulletins taken down). If you have nudity in your entry, mark it as mature on DA or marked nude on TH, please. Only include nudity if the owner has specified they are alright with it; we may have people who are either not interested in that art for their character for various reasons or are too young.
  • Dollmaker/ Picrew art. They're super fun and creative but not meant to be used this way (there's prizes involved here).
  • Crafts. I ADORE and respect crafts greatly but I don’t feel I can evaluate the time or cost of making crafts within the simplified scoring, so I’m barring them this time, my apologies. 
  • Anything that is hateful, demeaning, inflammatory, ect towards the owner of the Unicorn or a group of people. Basically, no hate art/speech. Let's keep this welcoming and full of good intentions. 
  • I am the judge on all these points. 
  • I have the right to amend these rules as needed if I realize there is an issue. 

Artwork Requirements:

  •  All artwork/writing must be your own.
  • You may draw/write about your own Nicky Unicorn if you have one, or use one of the ones listed below. Some prizes reward you for drawing Unicorns belonging to people other than you or me. This is not about general unicorns, just the adopts made by me.
  • No AI images, including backgrounds.
  • All bases must be your own bases, free-to-use, or a base you have bought/have permission to use. No bases traced from animes, ect. All bases must be credited. Artwork made with bases will have reduced scores (see below). 
  • If you include one, backgrounds must be either made by you or be a resource provided for use AKA art/photo stock (not just “a background from google”) and source must be credited. There are no additional points for backgrounds, to keep things simple.
  • I have the right to amend these rules as needed if I realize there is an issue. 

Artwork scoring (multiplied by number of Unicorns in a piece): I am trying to make this as easy as possible and don’t want to make value judgements on gifts so minimal scoring here.

  • Uncolored Clean sketch or lines full body (non-chibi): 2 points
  • Uncolored Clean sketch or lines half body, bust, or chibi: 1 point 
  • Plus color on figure (also can be monochrome/screentoned/detailed inks... basically anything that shows you put the same effort as coloring would): +2 for full body, +1 for chibi, half, or bust
  • BASES: Artwork made on a base will be half the points that it would usually be (yes you can receive half-points). All bases must be credited.

Examples: A colored chibi is worth 2 points usually. A colored chibi on a base is worth 1 point. An uncolored full body is 2 points. An uncolored full body on a base is 1 point. A full body plus color, monochrome coloring is 4 points. A fully shaded ink drawing without color is 4 points. 

Writing Scoring: (Please be forgiving of my scoring here, I don’t normally host writing entries in contests so it’s my first try. I just would like to include writers in the fun!).

  • 500 words: 1 point
  • 1000+ words: 2 points (this is max points a writing piece will get, regardless of number of unicorns or words over 1000)

Please only write for characters that have given permission to do so in their forms, and if you need more info than given, you can reach out to the owner. It’s possible you may have to write more than once for a unicorn, if there aren’t many that give permission, my apologies.

I will reply to each art and writing entry to reward points but please allow me up to a week to do so. Please have patience for a pretty busy and very tired Flamingo, she will reply in batches!

  • By choosing to draw/write for someone else’s Unicorn who volunteered it to be allowed to be drawn (and/or written) by the entrants of the Art Jam, you agree that you do not own the character but can post that art/writing to your Deviantart and/or Toyhouse accounts WITH CREDIT to them as owner and me as designer. Also please be kind/respectful to the owners.
  • You can only enter for yourself, not on behalf of others. This is to avoid people entering on behalf of banned users and also to make sure the person winning is the person who has agreed to my unicorn adopt rules and terms of service. 
  • If you enter something here that is against the rules and/or art and writing guidelines, you must be comfortable with me declining the entry or asking for you to change things to make it eligible. This shouldn’t be an issue but I want to put that out there upfront/
  • As usual, if you are banned from owning my adopts or entering events I hold, you are still banned from this (and I will ban others you ask to enter in your place if I find out).

I'm back on working on customs and enjoying them (a list of what I'm working on in comments). If I open customs again soon, how would you prefer I offer them as. Definitely at least one Unicorn slot and one that can be a Unicorn or other custom.

Tribute Pool

Hey friends!

If you'd like to drop me a character (or a few) that you'd like to offer as tribute for me to draw at some point (aka blanket permission for me to draw them) please comment below with them. I need a few doodle victims for some simple commissions I'm low on examples for and I'm only going to pick a couple at the moment, but who knows when I did another guinea pig? 

GUIDELINES/ THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:

  • First things first, read the "important information" section here for my rules for my art/commissions type things: https://toyhou.se/7995850.commission-art-examples Especially note none of my artwork is to be used for commercial/profit/ect including in merchandising or v-tubing.
  • For my mental health, please do not link me characters who have medical themes of any type including nurses, gore/body trauma/missing body parts even pretty empty cage torsos, or self harm. Thank you!
  • I am not good at fully anthro characters (with muzzles/beaks/snouts ect), I don't like drawing/am bad at armor so I won't pick characters with a lot of them.
  • I am especially looking for characters with a wide variety of bodies and ages; toss me your ripped, your scrawny, your curvy, your fat, your plain janes, your kiddos (not suggestive minors though no thanks), your elders. They don't have to be any special body types but I do LIKE drawing varieties!
  • Always happy to draw closed species but if I'm not in the species and the ref you provide doesn't show something important to the species please include that info or I will get it wrong
  • Please no fetish requests!
  • I'll pick the format and the pose, ect if I pick your character
  • This is important: Please don't feel bad if I don't choose your character to work with; I'm only choosing a few for my purposes now, and I may come back and look for more at a future time. Leave characters with the assumption they may not be chosen and be at peace with that or just skip it all together.
Thank you for dropping your characters off for me to admire and maybe doodle, I appreciate you!
