What health insurance do you have? Cost??

Posted 4 years, 7 months ago by Falu

Totally random question, but I'm sort of withering and searching for recommendations.
Especially relevant if you live in California (because damn it's expensive)!! Would love to know!
Trying to get a fix so I can be productive again.

From what I've researched cheapest is around 160 a month (hot damn) and a semi-decent plan is around 300/mo (wtf)
How are your experiences with health insurances? Hard to find a doctor? Not worth it? Worth it?
I wonder if I should just say fuck it and visit a random doctor?

I'm chronically extremely fatigued... like... always.
Regardless if I slept 15 hours, I'll be awake for 9~ hours and then fall dead again (days pass by like a blur, a week passed by and I can't feel it?).
When I sleep... I often wake up thinking I died. I gasp for air and have chest pain like I got stabbed in the heart.
I have zero appetite, even when the food tastes good. Which is bad, because I'm not getting any nutrients, which makes me even weaker.
It's really difficult to get out of bed, because often I'm also sleep paralyzed, or just in general weak enough that my muscles don't work. Like literally, I have to try really hard to move.
I'm so tired I can barely play a phone game, like I can't even finish one game it's ... IDK what to say, really.
My memory is getting worse? I just blank really often nowadays and can't remember simple things. Concentration is also out the door.
Generally I feel like shit. Also the rest of my body is going kapoop, like my knee(but that's genetic, my other knee is already fucked and 'surgeried' already).
Or my vision(this one is especially concerning).
Breathing is supposed to be... instinctual and natural I think. But I have to really push my willpower into taking a legit breath, otherwise sometimes I'm barely breathing (which scares me).
Also because I'm asleep more than half the time I'm being alive nowadays, I'm losing muscle...
I also suspect a bunch of other things (like ADHD and hypothyroidism and leaky gut I've been suffering with...) but... mostly it's this chronic weakness/tiredness/lack of appetite that's NEW and really pushing me over the edge.
What's really frustrating is that I get a shit ton of sleep, and I eat really healthy (fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, homecooked, no processed foods, etc) and I still feel like I'm 80 and about to kick the bucket. It blows.
I'm sitting here typing with two bowls of unfinished food in front of me, and I still can't eat it, even though it's delicious. EVEN THO IT'S GOOD?? JDFDIFOSDJOFS anyway
Sucks to suck I guess, gotta type something out before I pass out again. Living shouldn't be this hard??? Why do I feel like I live in the body of a weak, decrepit grandma?
I don't remember life being like this.

Have you looked into Medi-Cal? I'm in California, and that's what I use. It's pretty excellent (I'm under Care1st). Dental, vision, psych, it's all covered.
https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/medi-cal/Pages/DoYouQualifyForMedi-Cal.aspx

Even if you don't qualify for Medi-Cal outright (like say your income is too high), you may qualify for 'reduced Medi-Cal', assistance, or a really good plan that won't bankrupt you. I would recommend talking to someone about it, if you have a Medi-Cal office nearby.

I can't apply for medi-cal because I'm not a citizen!! Thank you for trying to help

No!! Oh I'm so sorry <:( hfghfh... I hope you do manage to find something, I know many would gladly support you with a gofundme or even just comms, if it comes down to that!

Hey there falu! Your situation absolutely sucks, so hopefully I can help a bit. I used to work in debt collection (legal department) for a profit hospital! I'm in Alabama, so be sure you do a lil research to make sure this all valid, because you NEED to go to a doctor. This kinda stuff doesn't get better on its own usually.

It could be nothing- taking some prenatal vitamins is a good way of testing if it's a vitamin deficiency or diet. Or it could be serious like a thyroid. God knows WebMD says everything under the sun is something really serious, so it's best to just leave it to a professional because stressing out will just make it worse. Take care of yourself until you can see someone. A really good friend of mine had sleep issues to where she could barely stay awake and it wound up being a thyroid issue- once she started taking something for it, she perked right up and she seems a lot happier now.

One) Google a NONPROFIT hospital in your area. Do not even go near a profit one. Most nonprofit hospitals are used to writing off huge chunks of their bills, or have sliding scales for people can't afford help. Ask and thou shall receive a payment plan, and you may be able to skirt just not paying them sometimes. People do it all the time as dishonest as it seems, but the hospital literally knows how to handle it. They'll write you off their taxes, so they get paid on the end, in a way. A profit hospital however, will chase your finances down and gut them (my job was garnishments and revoking drivers licenses.)

TWO) that shitty Obama care/ health insurance marketplace thing does have some purpose. When I had it, it was like 70 bucks a month for blue Cross blue shield. It was super choosy who I could go to, so make sure your normal doctor takes them before you pick a plan of you go that route. Unfortunately you will be doomed to reviving health insurance marketing calls forever after you do this. (Use a shitty phone)

THREE) see if your work has something if you have that option. If you're under ancertain age, maybe your parents can cover you with theirs. I'm covered through FEPBLUE which is frikkin amazing but the civilian army isn't exactly quick or easy to get into.

FOUR) open enrollment is going to pop open in a month or two, so if POSSIBLE you have that option to shop around.

But most importantly take care of yourself. If you snatch a bad medical bill, you have amazing talents you may be able to turn for profit as horrible as it sounds (you can make adopts or commissions once you're feeling like a human again). Just please please go get looked at.

Oh I definitely have thyroid issues    and sleep issues.  Although I can't join Obamacare or join the civilian army (because I'm not a citizen) I will definitely look into non profit hospitals!! Thank you for all these suggestions Tekno!! Smooches your face <3333 Hopefully my energy levels remain stable enough to consistently do commissions and adoptables!

FLEES TO CANADA WITH ALL MY TEARS
oh man I used to do blood tests ... good reminder gottA DO THE DO'S
I just fear that when I go to the doctor they'll dismiss me because whatever is happening isn't happening "at that moment" of the doctor's visit.
Is the wait long for health checkups in canada? I hear although health insurance is cheap the wait is long

im not in cali but in texas

i think health insurance is 100% worth it because you never know when youll suddenly need it i might be biased because i have 2 autoimmune conditions and other health issues up the wazoo

you actually seem to have similar symptoms to what i had when my celiac disease was undiagnosed. the symptoms were associated with a severe vitamin deficiency (esp vitamin D) bc nothing i ate was absorbed. even if you end up applying for insurance, id say go see a doctor right away because this seems pretty serious and you should get a medical opinion ASAP

Ohhh my roommate was diagnosed with celiac... but that took extensive testing and her insurance could'nt cover much of it sdhfisdhfisf
I FEEL THAT WAY SOMETIMES WITH THE FOOD AND DEFICIENCIES THO
Thank you so much for your input!!!

I don't know insurance either but if you can go get an overall checkup that'd be good. I also do recommend perhaps if you haven't/don't already, seeing a psychiatrist? Some of the fatigue and stuff can be caused by depression or another mental illness as well

Hope you are able to find something, and stay safe QAQ

Definitely valid! I've been thinking about psychiatrists too but that's like a step after getting any immediate health issues out of the way.
Thank you so much for looking out for me!! <333

I wish I could help )': I'm in no position to offer any advice and don't know what you've already tried or gone through, but I just wanted to mention that "getting a shit ton of sleep" might be counter productive because oversleeping is a thing (depending on where you look, some places define it as more than 9 hours, or closer to the range of 12-15 hours of sleep). It can be related to hypersomnia or sleep apnea, the latter which kinda sounds like the symptoms you have. I used to sleep 12-15 hours no problem but it would cause me to feel pretty groggy and miserable throughout the day; I get closer to 9 now and I think I feel a lot better for it.

I hope you're able to find some answers you're looking for though 🙏 All of that sounds really tough to work with. If you can't afford to go see a doctor sometimes forums like Reddit can at least help you research more into what you're suffering from.

For sure!! Getting too much sleep fucks me up more, and a lot of people don't believe me when I say oversleeping doubles mortality rates so JDHDHJDdjfdfg
It's still very hard to get a good range on sleep since my sleep is so erratic (not to mention I get anxious about sleeping because I've had so many bad experiences with it, which just adds to the cycle)
I think I might have narcolepsy/sleep apnea/and such... and just sleep problems in general but sleep studies are so... expensive.. like 3k expensive
HHH thank you for looking out and giving me your thoughts!!

Yo, i'm in california! I currently have Blue Shield Insurance rates by region

But yeah, as far as I know I don't think decent insurance gets any cheaper than that, unfortunately. It really sucks ughh

I'd say its so/so on how worth it it is. when you're healthy and don't need it anymore, you're basically just paying for nothing 'cept emergencies
but when you're unhealthy and faced with the symptoms you're describing, it could definitely save you money in areas. if advanced treatment is needed, it could cost up to thousands without insurance
finding doctors really depends on how many doctors are in your area, but for me it's been pretty good

I really hope you can figure something out and get well soon!! that's gotta suck to deal with

OOO I once had blueshield for dental JSDFHSJDHFJ it didn't cover much but hmm maybe the health insurance is better.

THANK YOU FOR THE RATES AND THOUGHTS BTW super helpful for comparison!! <33
