even though i told paypal the specific amount to pay MULTIPLE TIMES it still took 5x that amount

i'm now out HALF A GRAND because paypal turned a 50 dollar payment to over 600 dollars

update: so paypal dispute has started, i'm trying to just get a refund of the overpayment and i stressed multiple times that it was paypal's cock up and not the artist. it's like 10pm for them right now so idk when i'll get an update

update nov 16: paypal has told me they're working on it 3 times but nothing yet. the artist has actually reached out and said they're working on trying to refund the overpayment OTL

update nov 17: artist went fuck it and refunded the whole amount, i paid artist the correct amount (plus a small tip as a "sorry paypal sucks") and i'm good to go. now just waiting for the design ;3;

essentially:

i made a purchase for X which is equivalent to Y in the seller's native currency
i told paypal to send my payment as USD only. i specified i am sending X USD
i specify this is being sent as goods and services
paypal confirms that i want to send X USD and where i want it to be sent
i say no mailing address needed, press confirm
paypal pops up: you sent Y USD to the seller!

so like, paypal fucked up. i specified that what i want is for PAYPAL, not the seller, to make it right because i don't want to issue a chargeback when it was the payment processor's fault and not theirs. so here's hoping i get a response soon. i was don hold for almost two hours trying to talk to someone and get the dispute open

i'm so fucking pissed like that is a FUCKING LOT OF MONEY. like, it's great that it was on my credit card and not debit but that was not the amount i wrote down into the fuckign box. and i don't wanna take it out on the artist cause it wasn't their fucking fault. but i just... fuck... and of course paypal has me on fucking limbo on hold
