fuck discord

Posted 2 years, 5 months ago by _featherweather

the long version is here but the tl;dr is discord is fucking incompetent and i'm never getting my account back, nor all the notes and data and everything else.

i really fucking hoped i saved every com that people delivered to me via discord but fuck it, that's five fucking years gone

not like i'm really active here anyways but i'm probably going to be even less active now. was really hoping to get access back into my server where i put my character info but that ship fucking sailed.

Everyone pretty much summed up what I wanted to say about Disord going down the toilet recently, but I do offer my condolences to you losing your files! I always fear that I might do something stupid one day and lose all my OC art/fics/etc. I would be just as upset as you are now, ugh :( I wish there was something I could do

For future ref, my friend told me about dropbox plus? She said it's only like $15 or less a month, and it gives you a chance to restore accidentally deleted files for 30 days after deletion! Sounds like a good deal, may look into it myself. Sounds less expensive than a physical harddrive, and at 2 TB, that's a whole lot of room :000

i'm actually using ice drive which cost a bit to get started but is generally easier for me to use than my physical harddrive (which ahs a lot of stuff on it over the years and is very hard to use cause it's old and clunky) but definitely having back ups is for the best. i'm fairly sure i backed up a lot of the stuff but i can't say for certain that i backed up everything (i know one commission i bought that i definitely did not have a copy of but i have access to the artist's kofi so i can pull it from there, it just means i don't have the version without watermark which isn't a hardship)

at the end of the day, it's a difference between up front costs vs costs over time. physical hard drives cost more initially and may fail, but depending on how long you have a cloud drive, the price over time can be way more, plus there's always the fear that the service will go down indefinitely. so both have pros and cons.

but thanks ;3; it sucks but i'mma just deal.

i've been using discord since '16 as well and i guess since my communities have generally been in the smaller side, i never had to deal with many issues and tbh, the times i've had to make tickets in the past, they were all generally resolved within a week so being strung out so long is frustrating (to be fair, it's never been hacking situations but you'd think that's something that comes up p often and they'd have a better system because that tends to be time sensitive).

i've done support too and it's generally considered pretty common in the industry i'm in to have a reply within 2 working days, even if it's not resolved to let the customer know that it's still being worked on. i probably wouldn't have been as frustrated if i got responses but half of my tickets have been ghosted. like, i get that the people who got me first couldn't help. i'm used to that but *waves hands at the situation* this is so much worse than the average customer service situation.

aaah yeah.

and ick. that's... i was hoping i was a one off that discord couldn't help ;A; i'm at least a bit better off that i didn;t have a lot of things linked to it

I'm so sorry to hear that this happened! That's awful.

Still waiting to see if I ever get a response back

I really hope you do.

That absolutely sucks and is extremely disheartening to hear. I'm sorry you had to go through that and lose so much. ;;

Thanks ;♡;

I'm just... wanting to curl up in a ball and find a new service because this is bs

;-; I'm so sorry that happened to you, this is just awful.

thanks ;A;

i keep hoping that the hacker has stopped at this spoint but every couple of days i see posts on twitter that other users got caught and i'm just like... gdi.

if you use discord make sure you stay safe and don't download apps from anyone, even if it's someone you know because they can be hacked too

I actually almost got hacked recently, someone I was talking to ended up sending me this weird link about an extra Nitro membership they didn't need. I've never used Nitro before so I thought "hey that's cool of them". Clicked on it but nothing happened, it gave me an error.

Oof thankfully e3e

Yeah it sucks and Discord is doing absolutely nothing to try and stop this

discord has been going down the shitter quickly - apparently they are ALSO integrating NFTs and cryptocurrency. many, many people are cancelling their nitro over this, which i agree with honestly
im so sorry you lost that many years worth of friends, images, text logs, and more... :(

the NFT thing is what made me go from "i can deal with paying for a nitro i can't use" to "no fuck this, i want a refund" but yeah

i'm just kinda sitting here wondering how the hell it went downhill so quickly
