otakon retrospective 2o18

this was very expensive .___.

i mean i budgeted for this and i didn't go over the budget but

i spent way too much.

due to time constraints and autographs and having to designated adult for my sister and cousin i actually never actually went to any panels or the artist alley
which sucks because i heard there was a lot of

day one

- started the day early because i had a doctor's appointment. word to the wise - don't get bloodwork done before a major con, ouch.
- line skip for presenters was a nasty, filthy, lie what even. like, i don't like waiting in line for a long time, but presenters were told they had the ability to line skip to get their badges/get in. this is either not true or people in programming ops didn't tell everyone else.
- the autographs session on friday was a clusterfuck. instead of having individual lines for each guest, they had a huge line that would feed into smaller individual lines. this is a very poor idea especially when the vast majority of people are here to see only one or two guests (in which case, this was likely Canna and Kawamori). i was originally in line for Canna, ended up switching for Matsukaze. which was call - i got mikami to sign my death note lol. he had a kick seeing other people who i've gotten to sign it.
-  a little bit after that, i met up with my sister (who got me a cute little funko!deku pictured here with one of my omanju), ate over priced food, gushed over a conan plush which i should have bought fml
- also i let one of my sister's friend's friend (who went to my high school but like... years after i did lol) use my kinokuniya card. this ended up a good  thing because he literally bought one of every fate/ item they had available.
- and then i had to check us into our hotel. idk, most people don't know me offline but i am very bad with directions like... i'm fine if in a car but walking i'm crap at it and i get distracted easily and i talk to people and get turned around. it does not help that i am also lugging around my sister's violin because she was tired of carrying it for her connie cosplay.
- got back into the con eventually - linesssss - and ended up hanging with my sister in the dealers hall until closing, going through a huge bin of sports anime looking for arakita and onoda. until closing.
- didn't get too much - found some deku stuff (yay!), a waver strap (EVEN BETTER), got a bunch of yowapeda otp, and went to the chertiz booth to get the jaehee items. still kinda salty her VA couldn't come because that's legit the only one i care about lol.
- images of some of the merch i bought here and here, minus a couple of odds and ends.
- ended up eating a burgers with my fam and some of their friends.

day two

- got up, ate at this really nice restaurant with my sis, cousin, and aunt, then went to forever 21 on my sister's insistence.
- the line to get into the building was long. like hella long. at least it moved fairly quickly so small favors.
- i went straight to the dearler's hall for the autographs. on day one, i was in line about an hour before and couldn't get to Canna so i was like "lemme be there three hours early and then i'll definitely get him!
- this ended up not happening because the staff were like "we aren't letting anyone get into line until an hour before the signing event. at the very least they re-did the autographs line so each signing table had it's own main line and then like 5 to 10 fans right in front of the guest.
- being told i can't line up for two hours happens to be a very, very, very bad idea. remember the place that i got all the yowapeda stuff? yeah so i spent an hour going through this stupidly huge bin looking for two items and ended up with a lot more. including a matching imaizumi and onoda cupcake charm? which i didn't want because that's not my ship but i was very tired and didn't realize??? if anyone wants please let me know!
- i also ended up losing my phone jack charm which sucks during this time.
- anyways, bought way too much stuff and came back to the autographs area and ended up talking about some of the industry guests. the staff occasionally yells to make us not stand nearby if we are waiting for a 3pm signining. i ended up watching a lot of korean videos with a guy who was waiting for cherami leigh. they were very cute and about kangaroo rats and korean dogs who are really awesome (one finds money to buy his own chicken skewers and the other is a delivery service in his town omfg so cute!!
- by the time that 1:55 hit, the staff stopped giving a fuck (even though we did get yelled at to disperse two minutes before lol). they start sorting us out but the Canna line did not have a location right off the bat so i ended up kinda squished between two very tall guys because everyone around us was shuffling to get into the appropriate lines.
- did get in the line and had some very interesting convos about local politics, the differences between cons in the philippines versus america, industry guests we would love to see, other works by Canna, et cetera.
- i was able to tell Canna that Generator Gawl remains one of my favorite series, he signed my name in my book, and signed a picture that i'll be sending to another user who is a huge basara nikki fan lol.
- after that, i met up with my sister for a bit. ate a funnel cake. then found a place to sit and charge my phone because it's really old and seems unable to hold a charge .__.
- met up with one of my sister's friend's friend who has since become my friend, and we ended up talking about saiyuki of all things? we saw a daddy goku with a little son goku and i think that's what started the convo about the adaptions of journey to the west, how the japanese and later english translations changed the focus of the story, and then minekura's saiyuki lol.
- then we ended up walking around for a bit... ended up at the OTP booth and together we ended up scouring through the BL doujins. i ended up purchasing... a lot of doujins. mostly bakudeku, although on saturday i also picked up one T&, OP and one DCMK doujin. was pretty much half NSFW, half SFW.
- after that the two of us checked into workshop ops to make sure my stuff was there; it was a mess hahah.
- met up with my sister and cousin in programming ops. i was gifted a phichit omanju who is featured in the doujin image. my cousin left for the gamers hall (where he spent p much the whole con lol), my sister left, and i stayed to charge my phone again. ended up talking with a really nice con couple who have a really adorbs story that you can hit me up on discord for.
- met up with my sister's friends (after getting lost on my way to the AMVs rip), walked to the pizza place near our hotel, had really great pizza.

day two

- early day. considered wearing my jaehee shirt but since i was wearing my U.A. hoodie i decided not to lol. we ate at the same french restaurant which was tasty. i had checked our luggage at the hotel, and switched out my itabag with a huge canvas one that would fit all my stuff i need for my panel (not pictured: dice, all the character sheets, and some other books that are covered by the larger ones). i almost brought my copies of VtM and Exalted omfg.
- getting into the con didn't take long. the lady who checked my bag looked at me and said i should get a guy to lug around my bag for me rip
- so we get in right around a quarter to ten. instead of trying for any panels, we kinda just went to the dealers hall because it closed at 3pm... the same time my panel ends so rip.
- ended up buying more doujin. i also caved and bought a detective conan nendroid which is going to keep me from trying to find and purchase the deku one. esp since i now have a bunch of plushes coming soonish.
- after that i p much ran out of the dealer's hall to make my way to workshops (which was next to AMVs so i knew where it was at least lol). was there really early and the other workshop before mine was no where near done, but i talked with one of the staff and we bonded over our love of jaehee. jaehee is best route.
- so my panel hahaha. my laptop is a surface and doesn't have a lot of peripherals... but i do have a USB to HDMI port... except neither my computer or the projector recognizes that the two are connected so it refused to work. then i had a lot of people who came to my panel (there was 40 at the end, and we had people who left part way through because their ride came early). so i gave my cousin a twenty and told him to run back to the dealers hall to buy more d6's because there was no way i had enough for everyone.
- it went fairly well though! the document scanner thing worked and my cousin had the bright idea to take my keyboard off and lay my screen under the scanner so people could see the slides!
- however, running a game of maid with 40 people is daunting and legit character gen took about 35 to 40min because there is a lot of stuff that goes into it because tables... so many tables.
- everyone had a lot of fun though! which is the important thing. and i got to gush about some new games that are being kickstarted like oddity high! which i'm excited about! my pocketbook isn't but i am!!
- most of the merch

....collapses don't work on bulletins rip.
