I'm on a seemingly never-ending quest to find a suitable layout for my profiles so feel free to share your faves or even advertise your own!!!

I'm not setting up any limits or "well I kinda wanna see profiles like XYZ" because I'm also just generally interested in seeing people's preferences since I know my own tend to be.... a little unconventional at times.

A little late, but I wanted to share my solution to my own unconventional profile needs. I recently got a full set of custom coding, but before then I spent literally years changing codes trying to find something that worked for me.

My profiles vary wildly in length, so I settled on profiles with page-wide horizontal sections that I can add or remove as needed. Some of my characters can get absolutely massive, while others only have a handful of notes. Having those more simplified layouts that are organized into "blocks" are by far the easiest to edit in this way. I'm also partial to more simple layouts for readability, since I'm focused more on written content than art. There's also the fun wrench in the gears that was trying to find CSS compatible with libraries, and my insatiable need for everything to match rather than using different CSS for different characters.

Here are two examples using Pinky's Blank CSS bundle:
Long: https://toyhou.se/269072.calico
Short: https://toyhou.se/2375423.frankie

And two with my new custom code (also from Pinky)
Long: https://toyhou.se/854694.anders
Short: https://toyhou.se/3724463.naeva

These ALL look lovely!! I love Pinky's codes a lot, they're the ones I resonate the most with in terms of functionality and general aesthetics of the layout (like round corners & this general "spacious" feel to them)!! Do you happen to have any examples of library content with those codes? I couldn't find any on the characters you posted and I'd be super eager to see how it looks because for some reason I didn't even think that could be a possibility!

Also same with the readability > art, I usually don't have a LOT of drawings (especially stuff like chibi or pixel art) for my characters on average so I feel like some layouts look pretty dreary if I don't have those little drawings scattered across the layout to spice it up.

Ah! That would be because all of my literatures (what few I have) are still very much drafts so I have them only visible to me. I keep telling myself I'll finish them.......someday.

I opened up my code test literatures so you can see what they look like though! You should be able to see two now:

"Test Literature" is Blank, "custom test" is my custom one

And yes, I absolutely love Pinky's codes. They're also absolutely lovely to work with for customs if such an occasion arises. I've also bought from Cheerikola and AsheCodes quite a bit! They're very different style wise, but also maintain that nice spacing on a lot of their stuff.

Thank you so much, it looks great!! I feel so silly for never realizing you could extend the CSS all the way to things like literatures, I guess I just don't think about them too much since I haven't posted OC written content here in years.

Oooh big same! I really enjoy using their codes for smaller profiles (like AUs or alternative forms) but sadly none of the codes they offer quite fit what I have in mind in terms of layout and functionality, but I adore their style and sense of aesthetic with the layout compositions!

The hard part is that the CSS has to be adjusted to work with libraries, and pretty much no one does that. (Blank only has the support because I asked Pinky about it LOL) It also only works with side bar, and top bars are more popular.

Cheerikola probably has my favorite small codes. Ashecodes is the only person I've found who does World codes I like.

The codes I've faved can be found here but tbh nowadays my long-term goal is just to switch all my bios to That One Code (example IC)! It's mostly just a cheap P2U HTML I customized because I'm a very visual person and I love image heavy-ish profiles.

Things I like about it:

  • Wiki-like structure that allows me to add/remove sections super easily without breaking the layout or making it feel empty at places. Sometimes my profiles need a "trivia" section, sometimes they don't, sometimes they need a "powers and abilities" section, sometimes they don't, etc. It's important to me to have a lot of freedom regarding profile content while still keeping some sort of consistency across all my bios.
  • "Flat" layout; I personally prefer to use layouts that display all the written content in one go for my profiles, without any tabs or scrolling boxes. Idk how long my bios would be considered on average (I've seen much shorter ones, I've seen much longer ones, I like to think I try to keep them accessible enough but people will always find excuses to not read them anyways so whatevs haha), but that's what I'm the most comfortable with
  • Image carrousel!! With my fave characters especially I always have too many art pieces to choose from when it comes to that column image thingy, so it's good to be able to pick as many of them as I want haha
  • Custom colour + pattern bg + aesthetic images; as I said, I'm a very visual person and love how this layout allows me to heavily customize each profile using colours and images that fit the vibe of each character. I don't use CSS because I don't really want to run the risk of some users seeing a bare-bones or even broken version of my layouts so yeah that's the best I can do with HTML-only profiles I think
The only thing I'm not a super fan of is how the relationships section is formatted since it can look super unbalanced depending on how many characters you add to it and how much text you write in each mini profile but that's something I can live with

It's SUCH a good layout too!! I used to se a similar one in the past but in my case I noticed people got overwhelmed by all my text being on one page, so I opted for tabs to make the first impression less intimidating. I have since began making my profiles a little shorter, but I still think especially with my history sections getting long it's a safer bet to use tabs.

I think your profiles are the perfect length though and really benefit from the layout you use, the wikia style in itself is such a comfortable formatting and makes it easy to follow!! :--)

The scrolling tabs remembering where you left your scrolling are genuinely so impressive, one of those things you don't necessarily *notice* consciously but they make reading SO much more enjoyable especially if there is a lot of it and you might want to switch to another tab to cross-check info (in your case likely the glossary). Also big agree on a lot of those points you listed, especially character image + basic info always showing and the boxes scaling to monitor are really big ones for me too and something I'd prefer all my codes to have.

As a sidenote, the point about handedness and where your mouse rests is really interesting because I usually hold mine on the left side of the screen! But I feel like so enlightened about that position of scrollbar in relation to accessing gallery faster, I never thought about it before but it's brilliant.

And yeah man I feel like at this point people don't read profiles in the first place, like no matter how long or short they are chances are people in the games don't even open the profile. It's very sad but also freeing in the way that I no longer feel like I have to Optimize(tm) my profiles for fast consumption because it's been stressing me out a lot at one point even if I did very little about it in the end. I still do prefer adding short blurb on front page + summary section in the background info but yeah if people read they read and I imagine those people also know how to skim through text to find what they need if there are forum games involved.

I actually really really like the layouts I have for Blair and Claude, they're sort of frankensteined result of two codes by eggy/pinky. The problem is though that they're horribly optimized for mobile use because I didn't know how to combine those codes in a way they'd scale evenly, and I also really would prefer if on mobile you wouldn't have to scroll any tab text but instead it'd be one longer block. I don't know if this is possible only with CSS but I wouldn't mind it because then it'd at least give the Chance for better mobile use (since apparently today's youth uses mobile almost exclusively and many don't even own a computer).

There's a lots of CSS layouts from pinky I ADORE but because the CSS and HTML don't work independently (probably to prevent theft I think?) it means that people who have CSS off are gonna be met with a profile that's, like, incomprehensible to read. So my ideal profile would probably be Glacier's profile but with left side navigation instead of the top nav & it'd look more or less the same the HTML part wise even if you turned the CSS off. And I guess in an ideal world the html layout could respond to whichever TH theme you're using (pretty sure Blair profile does) but I feel like there is no way you can accommodate everyone when I know for me and my disabilities a lot of the "accessible" things are the opposite of it.

At the same time I'm just very curious to see what others have to offer since they can come up with things I didn't even think could be possible. Reminds me of how I actually borrowed the summary section part of profiles from you because I thought it was a REALLY good way to compress information in a quick way for people to decide if they vibe or not with the general character concept, haha.

Thank you so much for the help, it's greatly appreciated!! I think Pinky's been very chill with code editing and tweaking as long as they're appropriately credited, so I imagine that'd be fine as long as you have actually bought the layouts you mean to replicate? I've been trying to frankenstein imilar stuff in the past but since I still don't understand bootstrap well enough it usually results in strange problems, but I'm honestly pretty eager to learn and feel like I'm slowly starting to understand the basic structures of bootstrap.

And yeah, I find it very interesting what kind of codes people use and also what kinds of trends pop up, both in layouts and also in general profile structures! I feel like users like Casino have heavily affected the look of people's profiles to these very short ones with dA stamps as aesthetic images and it's fascinating.

So I'm really fond of the layout I'm using for most of my characters: example :)
I coded / frankensteined it so it suits all my personal needs when it comes to character profiles., because I can color it so it fits the color palette /aesthetic of the character :)

I also skimmed trough my favs folder and found a few which I really love (you can also just go trough my folder and take a look for urself)

Thank you for all the samples, these were really fun to go through!! Especially the code called Interactive was super impressive, to think you can do stuff like that in the first place is pretty mind blowing honestly!
