Have you written short stories with your OCs?

Is writing stories featuring rp characters weird?

89 Votes Nah, nothing wrong with that.

I did this earlier so I was wondering if anybody else does the same. This question especially goes for characters whose primary purpose is for rp or aesthetic.

(For those of you who care, the characters in the short blurb I wrote are Moira and Corona. I just got Moira specifically so I could turn her into Corona's rival. I love the idea.)

most of my characters are novel characters, but I like to write little short things now and then with them!

I typically only write short stories with my main oc, nick, but its really fun to do, and I get to build his character nicely!

@2inchlich A lot of people have characters simply to get art of them, or for roleplay. I've actually found it kind of hard to find others who write with their characters, but that's because I'm in a lot of art groups and no writer's ones <->'

@2inchlich I have a couple characters like that tbh <w>' A lot of them I have designs but no way to incorporate them just yet. They're simply there for doodle fodder.

That being said, I'm not one to spend real money on characters because of this. Only site currency. I do agree that it's sometimes a waste to get a character and do nothing with it, but to each their own. Better to spend time and resources on beautiful characters than other unsavory things, in my opinion.

this is the only poll ive ever seen where everyone voted the same exact thing HJKSDFKJHSDFJKH
but no its totally normal. roleplaying is just collaborating on a story c;

Kadrina you're fine, don't worry! Everybody is entitled to their opinion when it comes to their own creativity.

I do kind of agree that some characters are more just art fodder than anything else, but it's what a lot of people are geared towards indulging in. Not everybody has time to read what others write, but everybody can see a piece of art and appreciate it. And roleplay is actively writing with each other like a game, which is more involved. So roleplay and art are what most people will go towards, I imagine.

I tend to have a lot of writing stashed away, as a lot of my characters are NPCs for my DnD campaign, but I do have snippets here. I also write things using my player's characters.

i Only write short stories. i don't like to write Too much out of laziness but yeah! i'm only ever writing tiny 1000-ish word bits about my OCs- the rest is either RP or casual hc chat w friends i HC with!

I don't seem to be able to write stories with anyone who isn't a roleplay character anymore, so no, I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I love doing writing prompts with my RP characters and multiple ones even have in-character diaries attached to them. Also sometimes scenes from their backstory become vivid in my minds eye and, being backstory, they'll likely not be roleplayed through so I jut them down instead.

I’m not working on a novel but I do like to write short fics with my OC’s. It helps me to remember a headcanon idea or an odd scene I really liked more than idk a bullet point list and it helps me to flesh out personalities and character dynamics. A lot of my OC’s have complex thought processing that I've barely covered in their bio and it’s nice to have the chance to explore that more.

I end up feeling like I’m writing filler to get a higher word count after I hit 6k words so I prefer sticking to short fics within the 1k-6k wordcount.
