Minors drawing NSFW, yay or nay?

83 Votes Yay
363 Votes Nay

So i had a discussion with a friend about this topic recently and would just be interested in other peoples opinions on it and their reasoning behind them.

In my opinion this sort of thing is not a big deal, minors can have sex so why shouldn't they draw it? And drawing gore seems like no big deal to most people so why should some dicks mentally scar them? Of course they shouldn't be pressured into drawing NSFW and not use themselves as a refrence (would that be considered child pornography?) but having an interest in lewd art is nothing too out-of the ordinary for a teenager. Do you agree/disagree?

Another thing is minors offering NSFW Commissions buuut i'm not sure yet how to feel about that so... yeah. Opinions?

I mean, I can't really control what some horny teenager does, and honestly hormones make you kinda stupid in that you stop thinking with your brain. I won't fault kids for being pubescent teenagers, but I will fault them if they post it online or try in any way to interact with or be in adult spaces.  So basically.... They gonna do what they gonna do,  best make sure they're doing so safely, which includes privately and away from adults (not only for the comfort of the adults, but also because there are predators out there)

I wanted to clarify why I said "yay" in the poll since a friend brought it to my attention that this was being discussed. I do NOT condone minors posting any kind of nsfw of any kind in any public way or even sharing it with fellow minors. However, if you're a minor doing anatomical studies, that's completely fine (though I think it should still be private).

Learning to draw the human body is important and I've been drawing naked people since I was around 12 (while not posting it anywhere). If I had a child, I would encourage them to do anatomical studies if they were into art. The body should be normalized and when in this area of art, not sexualized. I did not realize my voting was leading people to think that I was okay with minors posting nsfw pornography, sharing it or anything of the like. Those spaces are for adults only. -_-

When I think of "nsfw," there are different levels.

Leading from nudity in general to straight pornography (also levels of gore). When I clicked "yay" I was thinking of the very base level and how the christian community I grew up in didn't want me to even draw bare breasts in anatomical study ways so I'm opinionated on how that's not wrong.

And I for one am tired of minors coming into adult spaces that can get us into trouble like lying about their ages and coming into the forums made for adults here on TH.

Legal issues with minors and NSFW aside, it's complicated. Drawing NSFW art for themselves is perfectly fine as long as they keep it to themselves and don't try to sell NSFW art, commission NSFW art and/or post NSFW art publicly. I don't believe minors should be able to post/publish NSFW art and writing, nor do I believe they should be in spaces that actively includes that sort of thing.

Minors have every right to explore their sexuality, especially through writing and drawing as it's a rather safe way to do it, it just becomes a problem when they're exposed to it by others and expose other people to their NSFW art/writing.

My answer is yes to producing private NSFW art/writing for them and only them to consume, but it's no to everything else (buying, selling, posting and consuming other people's NSFW art). If they do consume other people's NSFW art? They should be solely responsible for their exposure if they're bypassing age requirements and they should not interact with the artist/writer in any way (including commenting, favouriting and otherwise making the artist/writer aware they've consumed the media).

To answer your question at face value: nothing wrong in itself with minors drawing or writing NSFW stuff. Anything beyond them doing just that and keeping it to themselves is iffy.

I figure it’s an important thing for minors to use to explore sexuality. that being said it shouldn’t be posted, but ridiculing and judging minors for exploring and discovering parts of their sexuality in private, harmless, creative work like writing and private art is totally ok?
