Hi!

Since the original Unpopular Opinion Thread is locked (it turned into a shit-show reeeaaal fast) , I've gotten permission to remake it.

I've decided to use the original rules for the thread since those were gucci

Edit: I didn't mean to post ic aaaaaaaa

Spoilers: Rules

- Don't be very rude or snarky to others. Remember, everyone has their own personal opinions.

- Disagreeing with someone's opinion is allowed, as long as it's not rude.

- Yo don't namedrop people, even if they're not on this site.

- To avoid causing a mess, refrain from starting an argument at all times!

- If there's something wrong going on in this thread, or if it's going out-of-hand, please PM me so that I can take care of it!

- Vaguing someone is prohibited, and it's connected to the third rule.

- Please do not post more than twice per page, so that it won't cause too much of a mess.

- It's okay if you vent, don't go too all-out on it. This is not the Vent Board.

- Also, please try not to turn this thread into a saltfest.

- Please, no opinions focused on racism, LGBT, politics, religion and the like. These will cause a massive flamewar. Controversial opinions are also not allowed unless taken lightly.

- Don't say stuff like "I don't like X" or "What? I love X!" in a way that's aggressive. This is meant to be a nice thread about sharing your unpopular opinions, not countering someone else's opinion.

-If it's something nsfw, use a spoiler box, or blackout the text  like this

- Don't call this thread out as a "bad idea." If you don't like this thread, please do not post here.

-Failure to comply with these rules will result in a warning, or ban depending on how severely you broke the rules.

Ey yo,  if you see someone breaking the rules, pm me. I love it when ppl do this because I'm a blind bih.

I never like arts with very dynamic camera angle, detailed character, detailed rendering and with so many stuff going around them like floating items and magic sparkles slapping here and there.

It's just overwhelming to look at and I prefer looking at characters drawn existing in a white void.

simonsayscry

I think this opinion is slowly becoming less unpopular with the whole "cringe culture is dead" thing, but seeing as I just recently got into an argument about it: More people should have Mary Sue OCs honestly. I remember hating anything even slightly "overpowered" as a kid (the MLP fandom had tons of OCs like that and people bullied them relentlessly). But now? Yes I want to read about how your sparkledog controls the entire universe. PLEASE show me how your alicorn princess can best God in hand-to-hand combat. Having well-written, complex characters that fit neatly into a narrative is lovely, but OCs that don't care about any of that at all and are self-indulgent fun first and foremost can be just as entertaining!

TheEliBlog

Honestly the kid thing is like I’ve said, the result of people treating their kids like dolls and “my sweet little angel would do no wrong 🥺” and I got flamed for this take a few months back.

Yeah your sweet little angel traumatized my dog to the point where she was a liability towards children for the rest of her life. Fuck anyone who excuses blatant misbehavior. It could have costed them my dog’s life, or your child’s face. I don’t blame the kids for this. I 100% blame the parents. Either set boundaries or stick to having a doll or a virtual child.

^ ^ - Eesh sorry to hear. Yeah fucking hell, really done with like these kinds of sorry excuse parents. Some people don't deserve kids and are unfit for parenting. Hoping the best for your dog there ;;

I like to eat the outer crust of the pizza first.

I also like to eat pizza that is 'sandwiched' (either two pizza slices stacked, or one pizza slice that has been folded)

+1 on the mary sue thing

It's fun to make powerful ocs

Mine:

Pokemon actually has a way more complicated combat system than shin megami tensei

You just don't notice this bc smt is designed to be more challenging and is target audience of older teens and adults, while Pokemon is general audience and kid friendly (and the campaign can be brute forced)

Pokemon has hundreds of moves, ivs, evs, natures, more status conditions, more complex stat boosts/debuffs, more types of situations a lot of types, physical /special moves of all types (instead of physical being it's own "element") etc

+1 on the Mary sue thing. Although it does depend on the character and concept to me. I don't like certain OCs less because they're op, but because the character is just not that interesting?  Usually when it comes to overpowered ocs I love it when they got flaws. Just because someone's as powerful as the sun, can spawn a universe or whatever, doesn't mean they can't be allergic to onions or something. I love these little twists. It makes these types of characters more fun to me.

I see alot of artists online complaining about having inconsistent art styles or being indecisive on which art style they should use. Honestly, I think having more variety in art is better than having the the same, consistent style. Art is meant to be experimented on. Right? I mean, it's perfectly fine to have a consistent one as it can be recognizable.

insomnimac

^ I used to be so insecure over the fact that I didn’t have a consistent art style. I was trying to stick with one but I ended up never liking my work. I just kinda embraced not having one particular art style and it makes drawing more fun for me. Not gonna lie, half of my work doesn’t even look like the same person did it 😭 I do sign most of my work soooo… at least you know it’s me lol.

I honestly think it’s crazy that some people refuse to eat at McDonald’s ever because it’s unhealthy or refuse to let their children eat there. Sure, it IS unhealthy. That’s completely correct. But eating McDonald’s isn’t unhealthy in moderation. I was once on a school trip when I attended private school (this was 7th grade) and our bus stopped at McDonald’s for a quick lunch. Half of the class started freaking out and even called their parents to make sure it was okay with them to eat McDonald’s. I think that’s insanity. It screams sheltered. It’s honestly kind of sad. This is also coming from someone who eats healthily and was raised in a household where pretty much everything we ate abided by the South Beach diet. But we still had the cognitive function of knowing that it’s okay to eat junk food every once in a while.

Regretevator is kinda mid and overhyped tbh. I think I just get bored way too easily with modern Roblox games nowadays (except Natural Disaster Survival) but they just don't have that same spark the games from pre-2016 had that made them great anymore. I've tried playing Regretevator with one of my mutuals and their friends before earlier this year and about 10 floors in, I'm already bored with the game and want to play something else

I honestly feel like the whole kids and teens being more misbehaved than they used to be "back in the good old days" to be a bit overblown, I think parents and teachers are getting less support than they used to which plays a big role in larger issues, but overall if anything on average teens are getting themselves into less trouble (legally) than they did a few decades ago. With access to the internet we can see literally anyone's opinions about the next generation a lot quicker than we used to, so it could seem like kids are acting worse than their predecessors.

But, personally, I think it might just be the fact we have a bias towards that certain rhetoric. We see a misbehaving child or hear stories about disruptive classrooms and assign it to some greater issue with that specific generation rather than something that's always been an issue. I've heard some SHOCKING stories about kids and teens misbehaviour from back in like the 80's from family members of that generation and they're pretty vile. I'm not super fond of how kids are being raised with things like limitless screen-time and letting kids get away with bad behaviour but its just another vice that faces every new generation of parents based on the society around them, I'm also not fond of kids getting the belt or kids not getting affection because it makes them "soft/clingy". In the current economical climate its getting more and more difficult to be able to raise kids properly I'm gonna be honest and It's not solely the fault of the parent.

If we want our future generation of children to grow up in the best enviroments possible we need to set aside resources for support for parents and childcare workers as well as teen support instead of just turning our noses up at the "new gen" every time an issue crops up. There's always gonna be shit parents whether the support is there or not but the option being there is 100 times better than there being nothing at all. It takes a village.

Interestingly enough, I just did a paper about juvenile crime and according to the people i interviewed [judge, DA, police, court counselor who have all been in law since the 90s/2000s] the bad behavior people are reporting in schools [including fights, drugs, etc.] is being accompanied by a massive rise in gun crimes, motor vehicle crimes, and very serious felonies. I think some of the discourse is just trying to bully kids, but there’s more to it than that.

Crimes committed by children [14-16] are becoming more sophisticated. They’re breaking into cars, stealing them, using them to commit other offenses. That’s without mentioning serious assault charges involving firearms. I was told that the level of crimes these officials are seeing is comparable to criminals in their 20s and older.

I agree that we need to support kids since a lot of them are acting out due to issues but these kids are terrorizing communities. They need to learn that there are consequences for their actions, preferably from their parents but usually not. A lot of the teens  and kids terrorizing teachers have learned that they can get away with anything, and if they take that mindset into criminal behavior things get messy fast

insomnimac

I hate to double post, but on the topic of the growing rate of juvenile violence and crime, I would argue that 9 times out of 10, it’s a product of their parents’ negligence and the example that they’re setting for their children. There was one case recently of a kid who ended up committing a horrible crime against his school (you can guess what I’m implying here) and he asked his parents for therapy and help but they blatantly refused after he asked multiple times. I‘d also add that the last 10 percent is due to mental health issues. There are so many resources for teenagers’ and children’s mental health that it’s completely unacceptable to ignore their issues as a parent. Yes, financial issues can play into it, but even then there are plenty of nationwide programs that are there to help.
